    Elias’ E30 project

Finished up the brakes, installed new handbrake shoes, rear brembo discs to match the fronts, and new hella/pagid brake pads all round, along with new brake hoses too. next job is going to be to figure out a solution for the rear shift carrier mount, to make the e36 item fit the pfl e30 shell
  2. Etka - I don’t find it quite as good as real oem but better than nothing. https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/etka/volkswagen/ spareto is a pain to use
  3. It was listed for sale for 5-6k a couple weeks ago as the owner was moving overseas. Current owner bought it cheap and had it listed on marketplace 2 days later for 10k, clearly had no luck and now put it on trademe… make of that what you will.
  4. That is anything but great conditon 🤣

Yes definitely getting into the more enjoyable part now. Yeah I was surprised too, must be because it’s quite an early model being a 1985.

More progress today, got the front struts assembled. Installed them along with some fresh brembo discs and the brake caliper brackets.

Yeah definitely a lot easier than dropping it in from the top, particularly when the gearbox is attached. The car is so light I actually lifted it up by hand, but then used the crane as I obviously needed my hands to roll the engine under. Was pretty easy considering it was a 1 man job on a Saturday afternoon. The revshift mounts lined up perfectly too so really didn’t take long at all.

Big progress today, got the engine and gearbox in. Fresh oem LUK clutch. Put the engine in from underneath, that way I could install it in one go with the gearbox without risking scratching the painted engine bay. easy enough to lift the car up with the crane, slide the engine and gearbox underneath, then lower the car back down, lift the engine and box up through the bay with the crane again. Subframe and steering rack bolted on from underneath, some fresh control arms and m3 offset bushings to finish it off.
  9. Looks like it’s been withdrawn by the seller now

    sh*t that’s no good, hope everyone’s ok

    My 125i Build

Fair enough that makes sense. I do agree that to some extent 135is are too fast to properly enjoy on nz roads. My girlfriend has a 130i and it’s a whole lot of fun. If you’re ever in Auckland let me know and you can take the 135i for a spin and see what you reckon, very different to your average auto 135.

    My 125i Build

Big n52 enthusiast I see. What’s the plans for this one? Out of curiosity did you ever consider 135is?
  13. Thinking of letting this go as it doesnt get the use it deserves. See projects tab for more info. Considering selling my 135i as it doesn’t get enough use. Clubsport build, way too much to list. -6 speed manual - msnz logbooked - fia rated Sparco seats - homologated half cage - 6 point harness - f82 m4 big brake kit - light weight single mass flywheel - quaife lsd - Hybrid turbos, 300wkw @14psi - low kms engine all new gaskets, rebuilt turbos, rod bearings done, baffled sump etc etc. - full tig welded stainless exhaust sounds awesome Doesn’t require authority card to drive on the road. Has wof and reg. That being said, if you’re looking for a street car to daily drive this is not it. Happy to answer any questions. 45k

Absolutely, just means now I have to clean, repaint etc every single part as I can’t bring myself to install dirty/old parts onto all the clean new stuff. Just ordered new brake discs and pads, even though the old ones were pretty much new still purely because they don’t look as nice as new ones… Appreciate the offer, but should be all sorted for a starter now!

Recent progress. Got the front Wheel bearings installed on to the strut tubes, along with the dust shields. Rear wheel bearings pressed out and new ones installed, hub flanges pressed in as well. Trailing arms back in the car, brake lines hooked up. Assembled the rear struts with new top mounts, and installed them along with the new springs. Haven’t torqued bolts down yet as that will need to be done at ride height. next up is handbrake assembly and handbrake cables, then need to order some new discs and pads. Haven’t done much else on the front suspension as I’m hoping to install the engine and gearbox from underneath, so subframe will only go into the car with the engine. Have all new arms m3 offset bushings etc all ready to go for when that happens. clutch kit arrived as well now so just need to sort a starter motor and some bellhousing bolts and engine and box can be bolted up and put in the car, have the engine and gearbox mounts sitting on the shelf ready to go.
  16. I sold mine for $950 a few years ago, must’ve been lucky. That was calipers only.
  17. Can confirm 3+ hours on marketplace a day is how deals are found

Some more progress. Got my hardware back from zinc coating, all Organized again now. Got the rear subframe back in. Along with new rear inner brake lines. got the steering rack fitted up into the front subframe with some spacers I machines. Also swapped on some new e36 outer tie rod ends. just waiting on rear wheel bearings to show up and I can start putting trialing arms back in.

Been a bit slack but have got suspension parts on the way now. Underbody parts all painted black now, new subframe bushings and trailing arm bushings installed as well. also aquired some engine vanity covers for the m52 thanks to Luke from Skunkworks, he’s been a huge help with sourcing parts, all the suspension parts, bushings, swaybar links, struts, springs, wheel bearings etc that I’ve ordered I’ve ordered through him, very helpful guy. then got into the brakes, stripped them down, sandblasted, painted a coat of preventative rust converter, then painted a nice shade of blue, reassembled with new seals and bits all round, pistons came up great with a quick polish. ready now to send a bunch of bolts off for zinc coating and then once all the other bits arrive the suspension parts can start being put back in the car.
  20. Looking to buy a rear swaybar to retrofit to my pfl 320i. Have already converted to disc brake rear end using trailing arms off a pfl 325i. located Auckland cheers
  21. I’ve got an early (pfl) 320i exhaust lying around I’m not using. It’s in rough shape in parts but flanges should be good. In Auckland
  22. That looks great! Who did the paint work for you, I’ve also got a cosmosblau bonnet and boot lid that needs painting? Also What did you use for the under bonnet sound deadening? very jealous of the mtech1 bumpers, make the car look so much better
  23. Interesting to know about the LSDs. I’m currently putting the same driveline (m52b28 + zf 5 Speed) into an e30 sedan, which should be a good driving experience, and am looking for a suitable ratio LSD. From my understanding the z3 ones bolt straight into e30 subframes too, if you come across a spare z3 lsd let me know

Sharp sandblasting up in dairy flat. Not the cheapest but good to deal with and did a thorough job. The photo of the parts hanging up is not bare metal just for reference that is after 2 coats of epoxy primer.
