Is This Where The E30 Market Is Now..?
elias replied to E30 325i Rag-Top's topic in TradeMe discussions
Yep have messaged him, will likely pick it up on the weekend if it has had the rust repaired properly/is as rust free as he claims. -
Yeah they look very similar. Potentially will be picking the coupe up on the weekend. At least I know there’s no rust left. It will need some paint done so keen to hear if anyone has any recommendations for reasonably priced panelbeaters. He’s got the rest of the interior to put it back together. Seems like a good candidate for a m52 swap.

Are you certain it was that car that was stripped by previous owner and having electrical issues? Guy who owns it currently said it was taken apart for rust repairs under his ownership. came across this one, looks very similar with bits removed etc but a sedan, was this the one you were referring to?
-
Haha this was my next option. It’s had rust repairs done, and no more rust that I can see now. According to the owner it runs and drives. Paintwork is definitely rather average however.

Well you were right haha… went and had a look tonight, looks great from 5m away, look closely and there’s a very questionable repair to the lower a pillar where there must’ve been a significant rust hole, rust extending down into the engine bay down the firewall and in the boot floor down the sides. Definitely something to steer clear of for the money, I wouldn’t want anything to do with that a pillar job. -

Right Sweet as. Kms aren’t too much of a concern as engine and gearbox most likely won’t be used, and suspension bushings would be old by now anyway regardless of kms. Mostly after something reasonably rust free with good paint which this appears to be. As far as being overpriced goes definitely is but I have negotiated price well below the asking price. But considering other coupes with terrible paint are listed for anything from 6-10k and then need 6k+ of paintwork this doesn’t seem to bad to me especially at the price I’d be buying it at. -

Is this cad known to anyone here, going to have a look at it tonight. Not exactly what I was looking for and a bit more expensive but looks quite tidy. -
Yeah I went and had a look at it, paint is rough as, so would need a full respray, and has some dodgy rust coverup in the boot, been painted with truck bed liner and rust is coming back through that. Interior is tidy though and seems generally fairly well cared for. plan is nothing crazy just a nice simple m52b28 + manual swap and Some nice wheels. Just want a fun street car.

Still looking for a tidy coupe shell/rolling body

Yeah for sure, a lot for sale that haven’t had any interest. I have been offered a coupe to buy, fully stripped to the bare shell and has been rust repaired and painted. Could be a good option as far as rust free goes. -

Yeah I mean the plan has definitely changed. Was initially just looking for a manual e30 for 8k. now have gone further down the slippery slope and am looking for a tidy coupe rolling body and happy to pay 7k for a rolling body with good paint and no rust. I thought that should be fairly realistic but even that seems difficult to find. Crazy how much money people are asking. -

Having been looking for an e39 for a few weeks now I can also say that almost everything seems pretty overpriced. How an auto 318i is meant to be worth over 10k is beyond me. trying to find a tidy rolling body is proving to be more difficult that i thought. -
Hello, looking for reccomendations for reasonably priced panel shops to repaint an e30 coupe. Can be delivered to paint shop disassembled no problem. Looking for someone who does a reasonable job without spending silly money, want it to be a useable enjoyable car not something you hide away in the garage because you spent too much money getting it painted. Car is pretty straight but has many chips and clear coat peel. cheers!

Happy to buy just a rolling body. Not fussed about engine etc. But must be RUST FREE.

I also habe an rtd shifter with mini lever in my 135i. I reckon it’s a great shifter and very comfortable to use, but then again it’s not a daily driven car.
-
Yeah there’s a few e30 series cars for sale, but not really wanting a race car wanting something comfortable for the street. I’ve already got a half caged manual 135i with solid mounted engine, gearbox, diff subframe etc which is great fun but not the ideal street car.
-
Yeah m50 swap is something I would consider down the line but gets expensive quick with needing, diff, gearbox, engine etc
-
Yeah sounds like I will have to drive a couple different cars and see what I like, and I agree k swap would be the way. Have driven a fair few k series cars, always fun. that being said I’m trying to avoid going too far down the rabbit whole so probably not looking to do a m50/52/54 swap.

Not a bad option, definitely worth a look.

Hello, im looking to buy an e30 in the very near future, and have come across a couple different options. I’m not looking to spend a massive amount of cash as the 135i clubsport car eats all my money, so a manual 325i is out the question. that being said so far options are (all manual or will be swapped to be manual), m20b20 or a m44 swapped one. Anyone have much experience with these engines? What suits the car better. I don’t need fast (the 135i is plenty fast for when I want that) but I want fun and rewarding to drive, something that you can wring the power out of. Open to modifying the engine too cams etc but no forced Induction, want to keep the N/A revving character. if I went m20b20, b25 swap is something I’d consider doing. but yeah looking for recommendations, experiences etc with m20s, m44s, or even other budget friendly options in an e30 specifically. cheers!

Wanting to buy an E30. Looking to spend around 7-8k max. prefer something with as little rust as possible, preferably manual. Don’t mind coupe or sedan. Don’t mind mechanical issues etc. Would rather something with mechanical issues than a whole bunch of rust. cheers.

Glad to see you’re recovering, I ride bikes as well and can only imagine how gnarly that crash must’ve been. Recently had to carry my mate to a helicopter in a stretcher at the top of coronet peak in Queenstown, never a fun time. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
