Could be a cassette tape holder or something similar... Mine has that, I really need to remove it as it's a total waste of space.

Glad you're keeping it! After doing my V8 conversion I'd say it would be better HP value to turbo your car..... depends on how serious you want to go though. Then again if I wanted a turbo E36 I would probably just look at getting a fitting a Toyota 1JZ-GTE single turbo vvti... they are an amazing motor even stock! Main reason I went for the Toyota V8 was for the sound which is pretty good even with a stock 328i exhaust... ( see here Yotube clip ) Trouble is now after spending just shy of $10,000 on the V8 conversion I need to spend almost the same amount to finish it off right... I still have to overhaul the rear end with a better diff/axles and address the suspension setup... and then sort out the 4 speed auto to replace with a sporty quick change tiptronic 5 speed auto I have prepared.. then look at a custom engine ECU, and a better set of 4-2-1 headers.... $$$ Keeps things interesting though, rather than just having a car I just bought and drive.

God, I didn't even notice that!

Ha, two BMW badges on the tailgate.. what were they thinking of!

Ha I saw that after buying my current automatic 535i. This looks like a great score! I'm tempted to overhaul my car suspension and look into a manual conversion but it's probably not worth it as my V8 E36 is supposed to be the project car!

Here's a quick clip of how to runs under a bit of throttle on the motorway.. not too shabby, although the automatic ratios/change speed need addressing and there are plans for a proper true dual exhaust next year to sharpen up the sound... it can only get better! Youtube Clip

That car does not go with that house...

^ Word. Just make sure they are hub centric!

I bet that engine makes a sweet noise

Jesus. Quite a weapon. I only have a 350nm in my little V8

Its really interesting this type of exploring. Some great write ups out there!

Oh all alloy, right, that changes things - I assumed they were iron. But yeah, you are right regarding the cool factor, perhaps the V12 is the way to go then!
-
Id go with the V8, keep the weight down, the V12 would be too heavy with little gain.

Lets not forget what the E38 looks like I think one of the reasons it has/had great appeal is that it's not in your face, it's a fairly neutral design, but had great long clean lines. The E65 was the opposite of those. -

I've always though if I was presented with a two new BMWs, a 740i 2001 vs a 2002 745i to choose, I would take the E38 in a heart beat, no question. -
G'day. I am after a set of original BMW wheels to suit the E31, E32, E34, E38 specs, 72.6mm bore and the correct offset. Don't need tyres, rims only okay. Interested in any style as this point, but E38 740i 16" mesh style wheels would be the most ideal... Post up a picture of what you have along with a price. Cheers

Cleaned it and put in a CD player.

Oh bugger. What happened to the existing auto box?

I've always felt the E65s look okay but just aren't desirable when you look at them. A car should look good enough for you to aspire to own it! -
Heh Ill say. That was one of the best nights ever!

Interesting one... To the E39 experts, Is this a common E39 problem?
