Friend is looking for a 2003-ish 5 series - advice please

E60 for sure.. I think I will have my eye on them next year as their prices continue to tumble. -
In the long run that could cost you more, time and time again I've heard about non-oem suspension parts lasting less than a year, in some cases a matter of months... so you could be up for replacing those parts in no time. With such a car as an 8 series I'd only use Boge/Lemforder sourced through Pelican Parts.

Yesterday I was removing some under dash panels to check something unrelated, then I noticed a slightly wet surface on some A/C ducting, then a small green coolant drip sitting on the edge of one of the casings, presumably the heater matrix in the car has developed a small leak...... Whats the usual way to fix this? Replace the core with one that's not leaking? (I imagine that would be a hell of a job stripping most of the dash back....) or Just block off the heater port in the engine bay so no coolant flows to the heater matrix and blow the remaining coolant out with a compressor (yes I will loose my hot air in winter) Any tips would be a appreciated.

That would be a fun E34.

Heh same spec as the one Richard Hammond uses in the latest Top Gear episode. I like it!

It's funny, my friend and I loathed the last special, Iraq one but thought this was rather good.
-
Well worth the watch too.

Looks superb. Definitely needs more low as you said... the stock ride height at the front on E34s is really annoying, especially since the rear is quite low by comparison. I keep looking at mine for that reason, I gotta get some H&R spring in there this year!
-
Mmmm very nice example of an E36 you have there
-
Wow, going as far as weight saving on the window glass. You're not mucking around! I'd go for the thermo formed poly, keeping the original glass curvature would make all the difference in the quality when it's a finished track car. Depends how extensive your budget is though... care to share how much you expect this build to reach?
-
Wow cant go wrong with that for 4k. Will come up much nicer once you sort the headlights out
-
21k for a pair... Maybe 10 years ago....
-
Sounds like your onto it. In someways I am doing much the same thing with my E36, a lot of it needs to be upgraded to M3 hardware... which is the plan for 2012.
-
Ah ha. So what is the plan with this car, are you using a non motorsport E36 coupe + S50?
-
Wow, whats been happening under the carpet!
-
Looks like it rolled straight off the show room floor!

Mmm 850i cruising...
