gjm 3258 Report post Posted February 22, 2017 Fitted new cupholders and a coin tray to the 320d. It used to have a small cubby with the sliding/retracting lid, but it was getting difficult to clean, and the lid had broken. The cupholders might be useful one day (I very rarely have a drink in the car) and my wallet and phone will fit in them just as easily as in the tray. E30 325i Rag-Top 2956 Report post Posted March 17, 2017 Took the alternators off the race car S14B20 and the convertible M20B25 to compare the weights... S14B20 - 6.7kgs, M20B20 spare engine - 6.7kgs, M20B25 - 5.9kgs So will be swapping the B25 alternator into the race car, weighs .8kgs less and is solid mounted, no rubber bushes which the S14B20 one has, so that is also a bonus. You know you are getting serious about weight reduction when you are weighing alternators to find the lightest one...LOL.

I jumped the fence and fitted a suzuki alternator to my M10B20 for my e21, was nearly half the weight, also fitted a honda starter motor, saved somewhere around 4Kg doing both!!
gjm 3258 Report post Posted March 17, 2017 Replaced the engine cooling fan on the 500SE. The old one had been over-tightened by some ham-fisted spanner monkey and had cracked the land the blades mount to. I doubt it would have gone anywhere, but it wasn't spinning true (which won't help the water pump) and besides, I like things to be right.

That's worth saving for most people, let alone racers. Do you have any details of which parts you used...?

The alternator was from a wagon R or something similar, starter was from a civic, not sure what model, and I had to cut and weld the housing.
