Sure just send the link through so we don't have to look for it......

And be sure to ask 40-50% more than the going price for your car.

Yes, for a proper review of your listing we are going to need material to work with. So inflated price, rubbish images, overly opinionated "my car is worth this take it or leave it" replies to questions, and make sure you  blur out the plate in the images and then add it in the listing text. Don't forget that you will be taking payment in any form of digital coin, swaps for land, and please put forward the heart felt sob story of why you are selling this beloved car.

and when that all fails you can always fall back on the classic noddy line "Won't be re-listing\keeping it if it doesn't sell"

Just remeber that the only photos you can use on the listing are two photos of screenshots of badly taken photos from your phone... One of something like the M badge on the grille, and the other of the center console.

“Will keep if it doesn’t sell”

I find that quite funny.

If the car doesn’t sell [at your price], of course you will be keeping, that’s kind of how it works… You’re stuck with it until someone offers you your (most of the time) ludicrous price.

I know the message between the lines is “not desperate to sell so won’t take your lowball offers” but I wonder if it actually deters people from lowballing?

Who knows really. You gonna get low ball offers (or reasonable offers) at any price range i reckon. Extreme pricing just seems evoke Q&A a mess on trademe.

“I know what I’ve got”

Thank the Lord for that, it would be hard to sell if you didn’t know what it is!!

I see the person who listed this car (and the other 41 items they have listed on TM) has a quite nice 21,000km 1999 z3m Coupe (not s54, but s50 I think and it's a snip at $99,500) that I'm almost certain belonged to Ray @ HellBM at one stage.  Might even still be his...?   Could be wrong, and just sayin.

Might be of use to someone looking to build up a race car, or re-shell (properly) a crashed M3

Yup was a HellBM car, pretty sure the low ks was because it was damaged and just sat around until Ray got it and then he repaired it and got it on the road.

I think this is the same car:

Holly S**T!!!! IS this for real?  So this car has been all to bits for non-compliance and re-assembled and this is not mentioned at all in the ad?  What bullsh*t  The last time this car was for sale (still for sale?)  a year or so ago, I had a look at carjam and observed that it had only done 1000 kms in the last 10 years. This concerned me due to degradation from non-use so I called the seller and ask if they could explain why this was.  I was told  'it was owned by a collector'

Now the truth comes out.  So, at some point 12 years ago this car was 'parted out'... then reassembled... and is now worth $100k.  Interesting.

No it's only worth 100k to the scammer trying to sell it for 100k.

You are correct. My mistake. So, here's how I see the story going...

It was imported from Japan in 2009 and failed compliance. It's a good guess it was in a bad accident in Japan and poorly repaired, hence the failure. Then parted out and reassembled.  I think I'll call the seller and ask if it has original paint, be interested to hear their answer. 😂

I'm not sure you can blame the current owner. It wasn't mentioned (that I can see) in the HellBm ad linked above either - and they definitely knew.

There is a real story behind this silver car, and an estoril one, recently for sale in Christchurch. At $90k a bargain. Apparently. There was also a Z3 3 litre shell, all 3 LHD imported together about ohhh (idly scratching my kardashian whilst gently ruminating) about 2002. From the three bitzers emerged the silver car and the estoril car in RHD.

As to worth being $100k, evidently not. 😕

Actually the importer was a true collector / hoarder. Crikey he had well north of a hundred cars. He was a smart fellow too, one of the first guys to recognise automotive accessories  could be a lucrative business, , he chose to specialise in wheels and tyres. Deceased now, his memory lives on in the Mag n Turbo brand.

It was around 2001-2 ish, from memory, he imported all 3 and put the estoril car together first, switching to RHD. The damaged Z3 coupe tub, and parts thereoff, and the damaged silver car hung around for ages, sale proof until migrating to the City of Fails and Chancers around 2008 or 9.

Wow.  The harsh reality of automotive 'collecting'. You think you're buying a low mileage masterpiece but really it's a rebuilt wreck.

Is there any way to verify this beyond hearsay?  Any pubic document of import and/or compliance records?  Shouldn't a dealer have to declare the a car has been 'written off' in the past if they are selling it?

"Written off" is not the terminology in use today. It is flagged as "damaged" on import or at border inspection. The silver car discussed above, FHQ678  seems free of any notations checking Carjam but we certainly didn't pay the fee for a full report. The estoril car was registered in 2002 or 3 after the repair and steering change, all the suspension dash etc came from BMW, the two cars were completed almost side by side. The silver car and the tub were pushed aside and the owner enjoyed it for about a year, then lost interest and moved onto other things, like 1930's Ford V8's.

wow - that's all VERY illuminating.  And here was me thinking the Estoril blue one in ChCh (below, and https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/m/listing/3632610010?bof=SkrdeShB ) correct me if I'm wrong - I thought this was a 'geniune' car.  In fact the very first question in theTradeMe Q&A asks "was car imported as a damaged?" (sic) and the answer is "no - it wasn't. I'm not sure why that comes up".              This car has an asking price of $80k.    The current owner has a duty of responsibility to represent the vehicle as properly as possible.  I'm not sure if that is what is actually happening here.   In either the Silver OR Estoril blue z3m's in discussion here.   Caveat emptor, surely.

Problem I guess with any reasonably desirable 20 plus year old car that was once cheap and in bits and now potentially expensive.

Very easy for the seller (knowingly or unknowingly) just passing the buck and saying ‘Dunno seems good to me’ or previous owner said xxxxx.

No ‘salvage title’ type of record here?

The ‘rebodied’ 318i/M325i auction closes tonight I think - interesting if the top bidder goes through with it given everyone can see all the unanswered questions.

I really do wish we had Salvage Titles.
Though this would have hurt me badly when I was importing damaged vehicles to repair and sell between 1999 and 2003.
I stopped in 2003 when the new frontal impact laws came into place.  Little did I know I could have just shrugged my shoulders in answer to any damage concerns.....

That Estoril Shoe does come up as LHD via the Vin decoders.  Yet no mention of that in the auction description.  Shrugs shoulders.
