What am I missing here? Yeah, it's a clownshoe, which is rare I suppose BUT it's an M52B28 automatic...? LHD, imported in 2020, never registered in NZ and by the sounds of it whoever buys it will have to take it through compliance themselves... All that for $30k!?

Is this insane or am I?

No you’re not missing anything - it was part of the collection from that hoarder on TM iirc?

You're not insane... he's dreaming.  A little while ago there was RHD Z3M (Roadster) 320hp for $25k on TM.
As this isn't even complied,  you could buy a manual one in the USA for nz$20k and ship it here for less than this.

I don't understand why someone would bother it import a LHD, automatic BMW of any kind.

I didn't even know clownshoes came with non-M engines... Why would you even bother

In in way, you are right.  RHD clownshoes were only produced in M versions.  LHD ones were available in 'pedestrian' formats.

I'd totally accept things from C&B and BAT. I check daily for things

Haha Memories.

It's an NZ company (I think) that does paint protection. Technically their name is Dura-Seal. I think we have it on our Toyota. Wonder if the owner of Dura-Seal was recalling childhood memories when they came up with the name...

I don't think the prices are going to get to this level for a while, yet. Very nice cars but.... dreamin'... particularly the red one.

In my observation: roughish, high km, manual 2.8s are about $5-6k
Nice condition ones are 7-8k

LOL the guy asking in the questions how far $50 of fuel will take him in a twin turbo V8 SUV.

Not sure he'd be the right buyer for the incredibly reliable S63...

Interesting re the value of those z3s. I woudlve thought anything 2.8L + zf manual would be worth good money, considering the e36 328i prices, most of which are swapped using getrag boxes, zf boxes sell for $2500 by themselves nowadays

I agree, it would seem they should be worth 10-12k but I think it's a small market.  Another reason they are a good buy is they ALL have LSDs!  (All 2.8s)
I bought mine 4 years ago on a bit of a whim. Turned out to be an excellent decision. I put B6 Bilsteins on stock springs. I am all in on the top down motoring, such a pleasure to drive  moderately quickly. The engine, gears and steering are perfect.  If you buy one, put new HD front control arms on, it makes a huge difference. (factory arms have huge wobbly rubber bushings).  Sorry for the rant....

Interesting to know about the LSDs. I’m currently putting the same driveline (m52b28 + zf 5 Speed) into an e30 sedan, which should be a good driving experience, and am looking for a suitable ratio LSD. From my understanding the z3 ones bolt straight into e30 subframes too, if you come across a spare z3 lsd let me know :)

One thing to note is the Z3 LSD's are torsen style which can lend itself to losing lock up if the inner wheel loses its contact patch, that and they only lock under acceleration, not braking like a clutch style one will.

Yes the rear suspension is the "same" as an E30 but all the 2.8's also had ASC+T as well as the LSD. That and a convertible will naturally have more chassis flex than a hard top car.

The MZ3 used a clutch type LSD rather than a torsen style one.
