E46 M3 Owners: [Auckland] If you own one of these lovely cars, and are possibly interested in testing the true power output, please flick me a message. A group of us are getting together to dyno our cars, and would like to open the invitation to other E46 M3 owners. More details of time and day to come. So far: 8 E46 M3s on the list.

Ended up going down a path I never thought I would with this car! Just finished installing the last generation UZ series V8 engine. It's a 2001 3UZ-FE, 4.3 Litres rather than 4.0 and runs VVT-i, variable intake length, Coil on plug, DBW and various other changes. A considerably better engine with 20% more power and 23% more torque over the standard one. Direct bolt in swap with the 5 speed auto too. Currently runs but have a few gremlins to sort so I can drive it.

I've finished the cut & polish on MTOY, looking good: 13707584_1101888536524673_7985880867442531520_n by Christian Taylor, on Flickr Next up, full Gyeon Mohs+ coating! Watch this space, should add a whole lot more depth to the paint. Now that I've removed the armrest, the leather handbrake boot is annoying me. I thought I'd found BMW made an alcantara one to match my CSL handbrake handle, so I ordered it a while ago. Clearly I had the wrong part number as a new replacement leather one arrived instead. I've gone aftermarket, same as this one (black alcantara with black stitching): I'm loving this alcantara + carbon fiber interior theme - it's completely changing the look & feel of the car. Because I'm doing 100km of gravel soon I bought some coloured headlight film to protect the lenses. It turn up & I cut and fitted, but it looked so bloody ugly I've taken it straight off again. Also after coating: - Fit new interior kick panels - I've removed old ones, ordered & received new ones and replacement clips. Just need to fit 'em up. - Custom indoor car cover (fitted to spoiler boot). - Replace armrests with alcantara (I've found a place that'll do it but it's really expensive) - I also still haven't fitted the M Short Shift Kit yet (it's been sitting in my garage for 2 years!).

There's a significant problem. NZ traffic law allows people to legally cause an obstruction on the road, even if the Road Code recommends keeping left unless overtaking. I had a situation similar to this today, where I was the one joining a road, requiring (me to filter in. Big - BIG - gap in the queue of traffic I was joining, probably 40m or so. I moved to a position where I would filter in and the next thing I know a white Mazda coupe has accelerated and closed the gap to.... Exactly where I was going to join. The driver sat alongside me. Didn't attempt to get ahead of me - he'd closed a 30m or so gap simply to stop me joining the queue of traffic. I slowed, and filtered in behind them. The "Why?" of this is an unanswered question, although we could perhaps take into account the seriously reclined seat, the baseball cap on backwards and the slouch against the door while holding the wheel with one hand driving position. It's road user attitude that needs to change. And the attitude of policing where anyone exceeding the speed limit is an instant criminal, but dodgy driving (under the speed limit) is fine.

As always, Ray and HellBM are awesome. Viscous fan clutch gave up on my E36 and in so doing cracked the water pump. Happened on my way to work and I had just enough coolant (before it leaked away) to drop it at my regular mechanic in Kingsland. Ray had a replacement fan clutch there in a day. Much appreciated. Just wish it happened nearer home so I could have fixed it myself!

And rats. Little feckers have been gnawing on the 520's headlight wiring. Yep the little F*%*ers chewed true the wiring loom of the IZUSU to, its been at the auto electrician for the last 2 weeks :-)

Accepted, and that's the main reason I used the word "principle" instead of "rule". NZ law does contribute to the problem, passing on the left should be outlawed and (much) stricter enforcement of "stay left" should be introduced. Having driven in Europe for over 5 years I believe these two rules, along with banning heavy vehicles from the right hand lane would really reduce frustration-based actions and accidents in New Zealand. Our myopic agencies with their head-in-the-sand approach to road safety are making our roads more dangerous. Expecting everybody to drive everywhere at 30km/h because "speed kills" is criminal. In the absence of a sensible road code and effective driver education we all need to develop, implement or adopt other, common sense principles to avoid trouble. I don't think either driver in the OP's video did that but I'm loath to criticise either of them, the rules aren't clear and I've seen and experienced much, much worse.

I agree mostly with this post, however a point to note is that it is entirely legal to pass on the left in NZ, and this is largely because there is no requirement for a vehicle in the right lane to move left if a faster vehicle approaches. Doesn't really apply in this situation as the car in the right lane was at the very least intending to travel faster, and common courtesy, which largely doesn't exist in NZ, dictates that the car that is behind should yield to the car in front.

to give them their beans, the low rent coilovers have their place in other markets around the world, and when you have a shitty 1.4L FWD Golf overall performance isn't really at the top your priority list anyway. But here where we have certs, just a waste of time buying sh*t sets, even if your vehicle is like the above. Yellowspeed/XYZ/BC Gold etc all have the spring rate set independent from the ride height, and have adjustable shocks (XYZ have Koni shocks inside, not sure about the others). the cheap as chips one set the ride height at the same time as setting spring compression, what this means is softer spring rate to get lower, the downside of course being the lower you go the more shocking the handling.

The way I see it, you seemed to close that gap up on him slightly giving him no option. I would of backed of and given him a little more room. Ever made a mistake while driving ? No ones hurt...move on

And that is exactly the problem, I have seen too many dangerous repairs that some clown has thought "she'll be right", luckily only some resulted in accidents.

Feckin' eejit drivers doing 85-90km/h in the outside lane of a dual carriageway with nothing inside them. Not that they'd catch it anyway... And doing it while eating an ice cream! And the police traffic cop who passed her on the inside, didn't bat an eyelid, and pulled someone (not me!) over for doing just under 110km/h... Priorities. Wrong.

Of course only 1 litre goes in the engine. The other four go on my driveway.

Have also been playing round with a couple of ideas for pedal boxes as the wilwood floor mount won't fit by my measurements and the others are too expensive. So have thrown this together on my architectural software, and some ideas around a short shifter, and even a hydro handbrake.

there, that's better. having experienced most japanese and australian saloons of the time, read the un-ending assault of the australian motoring press on things being as good as the benchmarks of the roundel and three pointed star, then drove 300e and e34, I was left wondering what it was the motoring press were smoking in addition to their tyres. Sorry, lets get back to the Soarer love.
