2 pointsThe key is to strike up a good relationship with your warrent officer. Then they know your car and problems melt away. Mine is highly modified.. fully certed etc. And I just dont have problems nor ever get pulled over and hassled.

2 pointsRightyo, so with the engine... Rebuilding was seeming prohibitively expensive in the start (looking like around $18K) so I spent the next while looking at options for different engines, mostly calling overseas to try and find a good one, from somewhere that would ship. I found a suitable engine in the UK and was arranging shipping through McCullough's here in Auckland but whilst I was doing that the engine sold to a local (to the UK) party. I then got a lead on Facebook for an engine down in Christchurch which up until recently I was going to go ahead with. After thinking about my plans for the next 2-3 years, and whether or not I was going to change cars (which I was considering pre-issues) it looks like I will go ahead with the rebuild through Team McMillan/Taylor Automotive; this also comes with a 2-year unlimited warranty. The replacement engine in ChCh is also an 08 with no history and just seems like a $10K gamble. Should be back on the road soon!! In the meantime, I've bought Leebske's M359 Style wheels. Also heading to the States for a few weeks on Friday and going to buy an OEM 'Performance' spoiler, a new tyre (or maybe set) and possibly some LCI tail lights.

1 pointBack on topic :-P The Evolve tune was emailed through early this morning. Loaded the tune in this morning before the commute to work. Some pics of the procedure. - Batt voltage needs to remain @ 13v for writing to the DME. No battery tender available, so the Dog car gets used : - Being a Sep 99' M5 I have obd1 and obd2 ports. To read the dme calibration files and send them to Evolve I only had success via the obd1 port. To write the Evolve DME files, I had to use the obd2 port. Got an error half way through the write process via obd1, tried starting car and nothing happened... probably something to do with the 'ENGINE FAILSAFE PROGRAM' cluster msg,. Thought I had bricked the DME for a moment there. - The writing process via obd2 nearly done Initial Impression Started her up, all seems normal, high idle rpm for around 90secs to warm up the cats. I can tell the throttle pedal maps have been smoothed in non sport mode. 1st to 2nd gear changing is definitely smoother now. Part throttle cruising seems the same, pushing the loud pedal in non-sport mode is definitley more responsive. Given the nature of Auckland traffic in the morning I couldn't really push the car. I have noticed that torque from 2k rpm onwards is more apparent. 3rd gear with a slight prod of the pedal from 2k rpm now feels like 2nd gear. The exhaust note now seems a bit tighter. Will need to get some more kms on the car before the adaptions adjust and the full performance of the tune is unleashed. Overall very happy with the tune so far. Will report back when I've had the chance to drive it under WOT.

1 pointUnless you want a hard ride just refresh the bushes and the shocks (I would recommend Bilsteins, but there is a heap of options).

1 pointHad a go cleaning my wheel tonight Before: During: After: Great success. Lux Soap Flakes + Mothers Leathertech. Left over shinyness is a light layer of conditioner that'll for the most part soak in overnight. I'll give it another buff tomorrow so it comes up as a nice matte sheen, same as the seats.

1 pointI had a mechanic friend check out the suspension on a hoist and we could tell a lot of the bushings had been replaced .. New rotors and shocks on the back. All very well maintained. I'm not sure that I would push the limits of the standard suspension of course .. Would riding a little lower mess with the factory beautiful handling??

1 pointIf this was my car I would pull the KWs out and put the stock suspension back in and let the purchaser decide if they want the aftermarket suspension - with adjustment in pricing to reflect this. No point getting it certed now only to have the next purchaser put more stuff on it and then finding themselves needing to cert again. You either sell a car fully modified with proper certification or you sell it as a stocker in my opinion. This is sort of half way house at the moment.

1 pointI have just installed Bilstein shocks and custom made cobra springs from Chamberlins in ChCh. Aswell as a whiteline Adjustable sway bar in the front with all new bushes, has worked wonders for the car so far transformed its manner into something very sharp yet still not being ultra rock hard like most coil overs, probably more expensive than buying a set of coil overs but depends what your going for, i still want to be able to go away on trips with the occasional track day and a bit of daily driving, well worth it

1 pointImproving for performance or more comfort? The more solid the rubber bushings generally the better maintained the geometry under harder driving. Of course the trade off is more vibration etc, stresses, etc.

1 pointI'd fight them just for entertainment value... You'd be surprised how little these guys actually know about their designated powers... and unsurprisingly they know even less about their responsibilities... Haven't lost one yet!

1 pointYep... Was proving too difficult/expensive to find a V8 so decided to get an 850 and start saving for an S62/manual conversion. First thing I did!!

1 pointI watched some guy reverse hard into a parked car at Albany Mall one night a few weeks back. He looked then took off in a hurry. I left a note on the car with all the guys details. He called me later on that night. A English bloke who was very happy I had. Was quite a bit of damage.
