Had some time spare today while in manukau and tried my luck with viewing this car... After seeing this in person... lets just say that the pictures look better than in person... lol UK import living up to its rust appeal... The rego is also doggy one - cause vin numbers match - could be a typo error - however might make it hard to get back on the road again. Looks like it hit a curb or ditch... front wheels seriously damaged. underneath suspension looks ok - lots of oil under gearbox and sump - dripping. gearbox and clutch very sloppy - but does engage. would be interesting to see what it sells for... Thought to post this to give any interested members some info. - my 2 cents worth... oh, and if anyone needs a car checked out in the future, pm me... any excuse to look at an old beemer...

So I've abandoned the thought of fixing my sedan as a track car, after buying a 316ti for a daily driver. I'm now on the hunt for a cheap, running 318ti. Not too fussed on interior, exterior, or being road legal. Important points: - Running m44 or m42 - Straightish body, front panel damage is fine as I have the front from my sedan - Blown auto is primo, I have a manual conversion - Under $1k if close to manawatu, but really the cheaper the better! Will travel for a well priced example. I missed out on one last week when it was withdrawn with the reserve met so any other options would be greatly appreciated:D Cheers, Paul

Theres many reasons to do these things 1, Cause you can 2, Cause you want to 3, To own something different 4, To get up nose's of other BMW owners ( top of the list for me ) gives them something to cry over on forums. 5, Its your ride you pay the bills, and it makes you happy to do so. 6, Cause you can say " i did it " You-tube is your friend when its comes to conversions people are always keen to show off.

No doubt some of you will have seen my other threads. I'm starting a new one here to document where I started and my progress on this car. Mostly as a record for myself but you all should feel free to chime in with your thoughts as well.. Car was purchased without viewing. All I knew was it was a 1999 750i and I wanted it bad. lol I was told over the phone it was a repo and wasn't running and has 240,000kms on the clock. Picked the car up in Hamilton from Turners on the 5/05/15 and towed it home to Wanganui. I bought it as a non runner and knew I'd taken a bit of a gamble. I won..lol. I checked the water and oil then put a new battery and some gas in it yesterday and on the second crank it fired up.. Took it for a little drive up and down the road and it ran super smooth. So it got a quick wash then off to the testing station. FAIL.. Right hand tie rod bent. Some genius must have towed it from there. So because of that the Steering angle sensor has gone off and its permanently got the DSC warning light on. Right side head light is dim. Checked and the cap that holds the bulb in is broken. Passenger side rear shock is leaking. Rear seat belt wouldn't click in. Fixed. I couldn't do a lot else mechanically till I get the parts so I started cleaning it out. My first impression on seeing pics of that blue interior wasn't good. Then when I noticed it had a leather center console I felt a bit ripped off. I mean seriously, wood's key in E38's..lol After talking to some other E38 enthusiasts on other forums I've realized that no one has EVER seen a leather console before. And also after seeing the Blue in person I have to say I really like it. There are a lot of other features that make this car stand out a bit more. Like the wood inlay, vanity headrests and picnic tables on the back of the front seats. It seems to have a lot of options that you don't normally see. So I was poking around under the bonnet and found this which explains a lot. So this car just keeps throwing up nice surprises..lol Not only is it rare just being a 750i it's also an Individual. You know your keen when your out in the rain giving your car a wash..lol Then it was into the garage for a vacuum and start cleaning the interior. The leather cleaner I bought is really doing the trick. From this. To this. And this. Once I've finished cleaning up the interior I'll move onto giving this a good groom and oil change. Theres a lot that needs doing. The Silver hides a lot in the pics. It really needs a new paint job and has a couple of small dents and some surface rust in 2 spots and the clear coat is lifting on the bonnet. I think the previous owner might have live near the ocean. All the Chrome is pitted and nasty looking so it will all need to be replaced or re chromed. The 750i badge will definitely need to be redone. I don't think I'd be able to find another one of those. CD changer wont eject the case and it doesn't recognize it even has a CD player on the dash. Thats ok cause it would seem the Amp has blown as well. If you turn on the radio it just screeches at you. Boot lid open warning comes up on the dash even though the boot is closed. I'm hoping thats just a switch. In any case, I'm super happy. I've got a very cool project to play with for the foreseeable future.

Well it's majority brand new actually. The non-filtered section is used but only lightly as I was using it for some testing a little while back, but the main airbox is brand new. T Please read this advert carefully before asking questions!! These airboxes are considered "Racing" pieces - so they are NO WHERE NEAR show piece quality - it is pure function over form these. It is a wet lay up airbox so there are pin holes, bubbles and wobbly weaves in the carbon fibre everywhere. This is the latest generation produced by Geoff Steel in the UK which has all metal hose fittings (rather than their older boxes which were fiberglass and resin and were prone to breaking off). The fitment between the unfiltered section and filtered section is okay but again not perfect. If I was putting this on a race car I would probably tidy a few area of the airbox up a bit (mainly all the ITB opening as it overlaps with the rubber boot on ALL cylinders - many have run these out of the box without issue however). I am more than happy to assist in getting this to run on your car if you purchase - but only to an extent of getting it to run under the stock default Alpha-N map. YOU WILL NEED TO GET YOUR CAR TUNED IF YOU WANT IT TO RUN PERFECTLY. However having said this if you read posts from the UK such as those on totalmcars.com you will see there are guys that run these without a tune and it has been more than fine (the stock DME has an onboard MAP sensor so it is just enough to compensate for atmospheric pressure differences). I will even show you how to make an adaptor for your MAF sensor plug into an IAT 2 pin and have it plug and play so there is no splicing or cutting into your loom. (You will need to source an old MAF sensor, buy some wiring and a Bosch EV1 female plug and use an IAT sensor out of an E36M3) To make this run perfectly you do need to do a MAP conversion otherwise I am told on idle it can be a little bit lumpy (although others have reported that it runs fine without issue or hesitation if your vanos is in tip top condition). These airboxes run a cut down K&N rectangle filter rather than the larger BMC CSL filter. You can modify them to fit the standard BMC CSL filter but it requires a bit of carbon work. Google Geoff Steel or GSR CSL airbox if you want to learn more. Also plenty of videos on youtube of people running these. $1200 firm (note does NOT include the rubber boots shown in photo - snorkel NOT included - what you see is what you get) - I will also throw in a "BMW M Power" sticker I had made up professionally off a genuine CSL airbox if you prefer these over the one that's on the box at the moment. [These are 1095GBP retail plus shipping and GST to NZ] If this doesn't sell I will probably allow this to be moulded off and replicas created for those wanting to do this (conditions apply).

Very nice bar those wheels! I think the price is a little high too but it's hard to tell with prices these days. Roof lining looks original to me. I have a white E30 and the headlining is the same colour and is definitely original.

M70 is a narrow V-block - will fit in easily into an e36/46 bay. The neat thing with a V12 in an e30 is you can get it up between the frame rails, whereas the V8 has to go in the top because of the wide V. Means you can lift the V12 up compete with tranny into the bay, the V8 you have to lift the gearbox up from underneath as the combo really does not like going into the e30 bay as a unit! Also the V8 exhaust headers are VERY tight against the e30 rails, does not allow much fancy pipework. With the much wider bay of the e36/46, and the bolt off front, fitting a V12 will be a breeze, making decent headers will also be much easier. I have dummy fitted a V8 into a Ti just to sort out how the sump/ARB etc will work. The dummy is just the block, no heads yet, but I think there will definitely be plenty of room for a decent-ish set of headers in there compared to the ones on my e30 V8. Go for the V12, the sound is awesome and it is a relatively cheap conversion to do... except for fitting a manual box, that will be a challenge !

So mum needed a new car and dad was aware of a friend selling his 2002 E46 Sedan, 330i Motorsport. Checked out perfectly so bought it last night. 188kms, one NZ owner since the guy bought it brand new for $109k from Team McMillian BMW in 2002. It's got FULL service history with all work done via Team McMillian Just a great example of a well looked after BMW E46 for a bargain price. I guess I'll have to be nice to mum so I can drive it from time to time, might even be able to bring it to meets instead of my Soarers! Ha ha.

Must invest in cause.. Due for a service soon. Oh and she's hitting 270ks soon! Another big birthday. Sigh writing removed. New angel eyes installed. Oh and to top it off, I had a lovely Chinese student in his brand new TT with no insurance run me off the road, more damage! Just can't claim as need bloody car.. No courtesy car = stuffed. Spot the schnitzer.

Having completed 2 M70 v12 conversions into e34's, to keep costs down all electrics were used from the donor car to avoid the extra expense of aftermarket ecu's/ tuning etc. These involved a COMPLETE loom replacement (headlights - taillights and everything in between). Splicing into the existing E34 loom was more of a headache than gutting the entire shell and rewiring with donor loom. This is also the way Kayne Barrie did his E34 M70 conversion. The M73 donor (typically the e38 750iL) however has LOTS more wiring/gizmos/EWS which would make this route an even nicer challenge. I have done a fair bit of research into converting an M73 to run on the earlier M70 (Bosch) system, but unfortunately it is not as easy as the conversions Brent has done with the M62 - M60 Ecu's. The conclusion I came to was that the only really feasible way to run the M73 (without getting deep into electrickery and recoding of stuffs) was to run an aftermarket ECU. Which = more money plus tuning time (again more money) to get it running right. Car tinkerings have slowed a lot for me over the years as I have moved into bikes, I still have my V12 project sitting in a paddock waiting to bolt the 6speed manual box behind. Seeing topics like this and peoples opinions reminded me of when I was doing mine, pretty much everything repeated in this thread... maybe this is the inspiration I need to get mine back on the road. oh the fun of chasing people round the tracks in a dinosaur lounge suite. An E36 would have much better power to weight ratio but comes with extra challenges and I would suspect quite a bit more cost.

Why don't you tube frame the front of your Pajero, dual shocks, and add a couple steering dampeners while you're at it? Urethane bushes and standard control arms are old technology. Going with your approach here - "why bother". Turd, polish etc.

blah blah blah. Don't see you doing anything. He said he wanted to do it cheap, a V10 is not cheap.
