5 pointsJust got back from first trip to the Mother Country in nearly nine years, even more cars, white vans, buses and trucks than ever I can remember (even in London with congestion charges and Low Emissions zones) and overall traffic density probably 10 times that of New Zealand.. And yet the traffic still flows better.. and why? Because the standard of driving is much, much, better overall.

3 pointsMan we've got it good here. Mod's who don't mind using a bleeped out profanity every now and then. I just received a warning from the mods of an American based forum I'm on. I got asked to edit thread where I said "oh my god". Apparently, not only did I take the name in vain I also used it as a profanity. The warning came when I edited the post as they requested to "oh my Allah". Now I'm being inflammatory they say and deleted my entire thread..lol Some people have no sense of humor. To the Mod's and Admin here. You guys are friggin awesome.

3 pointsFinally got it back on the road after three months in pieces. Time to take it to a couple track days to see what needs to be improved before it's off to get a cage later in the year.

2 pointsMeyle, Behr, Boge etc are all OEM manufacturers. Only difference between an OEM listed part and a Genuine part on Pelican is the branding on the box it comes in. So far the stuff I've had from Pelican has all been excellent quality, and even with the added shipping & currency conversion costs still cheaper (frequently less hassle too) than buying new locally. Probably not so much now our currency cross rates are in the low 60s. Ethically I prefer to buy from local suppliers, but when the aftermarket suppliers are still 100%+ more expensive in some instances (not always, but often) than buying online it's really hard to justify it sometimes. Yes, I'm well aware of smaller markets, less demand equalling higher margins on small run products, but when the budget dictates I can spend a maximum of $x on parts and my options are imported OEM or local aftermarket then in my opinion it's a no brainer.

1 pointHad a great mini adventure last Thursday with my little lad. Flew down to Palmy and picked up a little manual 320i to use as a daily sight unseen. It didn't miss a beat on the way home and was great fun to drive despite more than 350K kms on the clock, though it did have head gaskets done in the past five years. Paint and bodywork are in okay condition for a near-30 year-old car and the interior is mint apart from a repairable small crack (surprise surprise) on the dash and a rip in the fabric on the driver's side seat bolster. No plans to do much with it other than keep it running for the foreseeable future while the 8er uses up any discretionary spend. I have purchased a new gear knob to replace a horrible fake CF one that is clinging loosely to life. Wouldn't mind lowering it an inch or so but not in any hurry. Photos from our trip home.

1 pointSo much mis-information and mis-use of the term OEM, some deliberate and some accidental. And you might be quite surprised by the differences between some "genuine" parts compared to "OEM" parts made in the same factory. Not all of them, but certainly some. P&A sales are also where component suppliers try to make some money after being screwed into the ground for the OE contract.

1 point^^^^^^ Nothing wrong with going for the branded products. You will find a lot of Milland parts will be of brands of suppliers to BMW AG I have a contact in Europe for BMW AG parts & mostly better pricing than Pelican too. Also much sharper shipping

1 pointYou mean people accelerate to 100kmh before the end of the on ramps? NZ (South Auckland particularly) needs a new road sign that says : Get off ya Fn Phone and Hurry The F Up for the next 100km

1 pointIn the last 12 hrs I have seen A motorcycle riding up the pavement against traffic then cutting across 4 lanes to take an exit on the other side of the road Stopped to watch a people mover take 3 erratic laps of a roundabout while the occupants discussed where to go Followed a car where the driver decided the best way to navigate merge was to stop dead and wait till traffic cleared.. And finally minutes after that a car weaving within its lane hitting the curb If I had been driving for the last 12 hours you could almost explain witnessing a large number of poor driving events, but no I have only covered 15km... WTF?

1 pointI have HID on my e36. Aftermarket housings and lenses with the proper cutoffs designed for RHD. a HID kit in the stock housings will not work and have a lot of flare. HIDs should have nice clear cutoff lines - dipping towards the right and up towards the left with little glare in the transition. my headlight housings are marked with RHD extruded into the plastic cover. the front is glass etc. Only running on lowbeam as HID takes time to power up to working intensity, and therefore if youre driving country roads and often high beam off and on depending on oncoming traffic etc, halogens have an almost instant response .. running HID on high beam is not as useful due to the warm up time. (there might be new tech, but thats what I know from when I got mine).

1 pointUnfortunately there is no cheap way to get them as nearly all 46 tourings in NZ have the railing package. So for me it`s going to be new and that`s a trade price.
