So sorry for you after all your hard work. My heart goes out to you and I give you credit for everything you have gone through and done. My hat goes of to you. The broken spring, I'm sure is the result rather than the cause

That sucks man, i was so hoping you had sorted the issues once and for all.

'cos it's easier to ask a professionals opinion and then rubbish it with "factz" from the internets. After all, a DIY hack from the back blocks of some god forsaken town in the middle of Nowheresville, USA / Slovakia / Morrinsville knows more than a craftsman with 30+ years experience. Rant done

Interesting that the spring shear points are aligned with each other. Is there a possibility a collet might have been misaligned leaving the spring cap at an angle? Does seem pretty strange it would choose to let go at idle - I've seen the debris of an over-rev causing valve float and piston death, quite similar to your failed spring but the fractures weren't on the same plane. If you can bring yourself to conduct an autopsy I'd be fascinated to see the resulting carnage in the cylinder and on the crank. Did the engine entirely seize?

I sent it to E Parrot and Sons in Christchurch. I had to buy the stepper motors myself and free issue them to their technicians. They did the whole job and replaced the lcd as well. All up $300. Sent from my SM-G925I using Tapatalk

Bummer dude - that wasn't something I expected to happen!!! Guy Fawkes is still quite a few months away yet! If it was only idling, it may still be worth opening back up and see how bad the damage is.

It certainly wasn't over revved. I tried to protect the springs by keeping them soaking in jars of simple green before they were installed, and then when they were installed I coated then in crc or oil. But yeah, building the engine under my house it probably gets a bit damp under there. I don't suppose simple green concentrate damaged the spring, but who knows?

That's really sad news. I've heard of three potentially relevant causes for valve spring failure: Over-revving (although I don't see how this would break a spring - maybe localised heat build-up?) Poor quality metal used in manufacture Rust on the spring (which can result in failure in the same way a stress fracture would) Could the spring have been exposed to damp while the engine was in pieces?

Got a few parts today. Picked up a pfl m20b25 engine which is complete, also got a m52b28 crank and some fl m20b25 pistons. Last week the boys at Hell Bm sorted me a m20b25 block to ready my 2.8 stroker build. Next on the list is pick up my m20b20 130mm rods and sort a new camshaft then its all on. 2.8 litre life Also bought this touring last week that needs quite a bit of tlc

No chips on my shoulder bud, in fact quite the opposite. Just seems to me to be a hell of a lot of people out there who think they know stuff about things they have no idea about, including a market value that can only be determined by one, well two things really. A willing buyer and a willing seller. My sale proves that I did not make any false claims in my Trade Me listing and that a genuine buyer saw my M3 for what it is. I see you lot have moved onto a new subject now, the E30 M3 Sport EVO. If the seller thinks its worth whatever he's asking for it and he finds a willing buyer to pay that amount, then I say good luck to him.

Three cars on NZ soil currently, this is the only one on the road, launch date is 16th April. It was being driven by a BMW NZ employee, but not a big wig

Been awhile, picked up a Rieger GT front lip, it fell off, then I put it back on again. Also picked up some ACS type 3's. I'm standard ride height on M3 bilsteins and holy @$%! the scrape is real, you could never get away with this lip on a lowered car in NZ.

Most often the case when you not looking, manual cars start popping up all over the place. When you are on the hunt for one not much out there... I'm sure this is the case with Martins' M5, bargain price now but everyone that was in the market for this sort of car at the time, have probably moved on to something else most likely 335i sedan's which seemed to be the default choice considering what you get for the money and now are like WTF M5 for this money...
