4 pointsYou've changed your name Ron (William)? Anyway, the problem here, and in many similar threads, is that there's simply no universally correct answer despite the insistence of some. If one has to rely on semantics to prove their own paradigm is 'correct' then they've missed the point of the discussion. This was never a thread about absolutes, it was always going to be subjective. Discussions so often are. Being a member of a society invariably requires, from time to time, one to stand down from their position, however informed and accurate they believe it to be, in the interests of promoting harmony. Recognising when doing so is in the best interests of the wider community is a very respected trait and when a 'discussion' has devolved to semantics that point has well passed. For most people being harmonious some of the time is much more important than being right all of the time.

2 pointsMerry Christmas to me... After 2 visits to view car, I made the offer and it is mine... a 3rd trip on the buses and trains to Auckland to drive it south.. I'm essentially the 3rd private owner, last owner 10 years, with a pile of receipts... So far it's had a damn good clean (wasn't even vacuumed), 2 oils leaks fixed (filler cap and sump drain plug), the lights sanded and polished, the interior mirror glass replaced, and more parts on the way... and more and more cleaning and detailing.... Drives good... mostly everything works... but got a big list of things to do.... wheels, emblems, windscreen trim, fan clutch, filters etc etc.

2 pointsYour write up was more interesting than the actual trade me auction.

2 pointsAre you a human William? Do you understand that beyond a certain point you're only talking to yourself because everybody else has tuned out? Do you recognise that in such situations however "correct" you are nobody else cares? When nobody else cares you've lost your argument, your position and any authority you had. It no longer matters how 'correct' you are because you're already 'wrong' in the eyes of all observers. Not because of your argument but because of your attitude. I used to be "right" all the time at work until an astute manager taught me long ago that always being "right" was simply wrong, irrespective of how accurate I might have thought I was. Carry on as you wish.

1 point1994 e34 540i, Factory minus stereo. I've owned this for about 3 years, just been doing work on the engine general servicing as its at just over 265000kms. I've completely deleted the sunroof, in the process of getting it welded up using the same panels other than that haven't made any major plans for it yet no rush. Really nice car to drive very comfortable, its been on some big road trips from Dunedin to central north island and Gizzy to Lake Hawea, did Dunedin to Wanganui on a tank of gas! Tank is 80L. 2001 e39 540i, Just picked this one up this month, just over 200000kms, full service history and paper work, nz new, all optional extras. Brilliant car an absolute dream to drive. 1992 e36 325i ac schnitzer, You may have seen this one on trade me recently, was on 5 spoke ROH's. AC schnitzer front lip, rear lip, rear spoiler, springs and struts, front strut brace, drilled rear discs, bbs 18x8.5 235R 215F, a few other little gems, 140000km, and its JDM. Just in the process of converting to manual should be done in the next month. Very minor things wrong with the car, i was blown away at the condition of it when i picked it up.

1 pointI think it's quite likely that Mulder and Scully have opened an X-File on this one.

1 pointSweet car. I feel they are the most well balanced e39 in a 3.5 litre. Like driving a 540i with the fuel consumption of a 528i. Good luck with sale

1 pointDoesn't sound like quite the same problem. Give Kayne Barrie a call - 027 497 5330. I have a very superficial knowledge of Getrag 'boxes - he's rebuilt more of them than he'd care to remember.

1 pointI've had plenty of fun with the car and done minimal work on it. Everything had been going great up until the 28th of December. Traveled up to Auckland to help some mates replace a radiator on their suzuki carry van that was mid road trip. Not sure what sort of luck was going on with our group but as soon as the van was fixed the bmw wouldn't start. It's especially worrying when it'll turn over but wont start. Spark was poor and the fuel pump was dead(luckily had tools with me to diagnose this roadside). Luckily Connor (toast) came to my rescue with a spare fuel pump. New pump (blue top pump with no siphon return that needed to be a little rangi'd to fit) and new plugs and I was on my way. Had to of course make sure I stayed over half a tank. Also the car ticked over 170,000k's just after it died. Got home after new years and installed a dw300 pump into the 325 fuel pump carrier. It's held in with a 3mm sheet of viton wrapped around the pump. Works mint so far and is plenty big enough for the future and e85. Please excuse the poo nail Next on the list of things to do was the clutch. It's currently working fine but i'm sure it isn't going to like any boost. Current guibo is ready to give up. Glad I used to hoard e36 parts because i've got a spare and a full gasket set to do the main seal as well. Next on the list of things to do was the clutch. 1 pointHi everyone. Keen to be a part of this and tap into knowledge on modifying my 335d. Any other members in NP??

1 pointSo Ron part of the original question on the thread asked "Is the absolute power produced (or torque) make any engine a performance one." Now what you have focussed on is your KW/L arguement, and for the umpteenth time Ron that was not the only part of the question! And as people other than me have demonstrated big cc engines that have horsepower ouputs above high revving small dipacement engines can be considered performance engines based on thier power alone! Whats also clear is that the only NA engines that meet the criteria are high reviing engines, which is fine because these engines are great in thier own right. The simple metric that meaures this is yet again power to weight. This drags on to 5 pages as much because you dont accept this. There is no derailment here, how could there be when the acual question is being answered. The reality Ron is that you have very pronounced likes and dislikes and your biases cloud your arguement. For me I like most engines and have owned big CC pusrod engines High revving 4 cyls, rotaries and of course the smooth BMW 6s, and its clear that a great chassis like an E36 would match up very well to an engine with 400plus horsepower, how I go about that is yet to be realised but whats clear is that its unlikely to be a NA engine unless the cc rating is above 5000

1 pointA happy and prosperous new year to all Bimmersporters old and new!

1 pointHere's a non-performance engine in a shitty chassis... doesn't go like a cut cat at all.

1 pointGood point. How many litres is the average 150kw electric motor? Perhaps kw/kg is a better metric for electric
-
1 point50% of the loom extracted and put into the not needed pile. SRS,lighting, pdc, speaker, comfort access take up the larger volume of wiring. Thanks to James for his hours put into unravelling the spaghetti.

1 pointWelcome to Bimmersport, thanks for joining the community so you can sell your car. Normally your thread would be removed under the forum rules (which I suggest you read) but it's Christmas Holidays and I'm feeling charitable so will let it stay.

1 pointSell it and get a 650i 42% more power 96% more torque. Cheapest most trouble free way to get more performance

1 pointSo I guess this is where I should do a little write up and add all the stuff my dad has done on his 74 2002. It all began about 5 years ago when dad got the car in a dereg state that needed a full restore. Rusty sills were replaced and the full car was stripped down to bare metal, razor blades were used to scrape the layers of paint back, the car was originally green, but once we scraped off the red paint it was finally back to the bare metal. The drivers side floor was repaired too due to rust, finally making the car rust free! Unfortunitly dad didnt really get any pictures during the build of the car or of it in its stripped state. The guards were then cut and then welded to allow for the flares to be bolted on along with the BBS RS 15x8 et13 offset reps to be installed. This proved to be a bit of an issue come recompliance where an LVV Cert was also needed, this passed easily but added to the cost of the build. We managed to pick up a mint Tan leather interior out of a 635csi. This fitted in perfectly and the rear bucket seats look amazing and are amazingly comfy! The original 2L m10 single carby engine still powers it all but maybe one day in the future a twin carb setup or injected setup might be added to make the car a little easier to use as a bit more of a daily driver. The paint was chosen to be Polaris Silver, as the original 2002 turbos only came in the white or silver and my grandfather at the time owning a 1974 E9 3.0CS in polaris silver. So I guess here is the place where I will post some glamour shots of her! I have only shot the outside of the car but Im sure over time I will continue to utilize the little car as a stand in model whenever I want something pretty to take photos of! If you want to know more about this car feel free to ask, dad has a whole lot more on it and Im sure we will add more to the story of this car!
