And here is the news. Last night, in a garage east of Paengaroa, two men found that a certain vehicles PCV was also knackered, and that the bolt that holds the positive terminal onto the intake manifold is also quite easy to snap. The spade end of the lead that connects to the end of the bolt also snapped with it. Happily, taking off the oil filter housing was the same doddle it usually is. Guess I'll be going shopping when I get a spare minute- tomorrow our 2nd child arrives (ready or not!). That'll slow down my car tinkering

Paint adheres fine I think, but may seems to stay tacky far longer. It's also not showing the same surface finish, I may redo some parts of it with bog/putty to get a better finish in that regard. It's on now though, and will do a bit of driving and see how it 'weathers' before getting to carried away with surface finish.

haha I cant even get to it to hammer it. It makes a weird winding noise when it initially starts, then after a second or two, it stops.

There is a bit missing in the instructions - you have to press the hands-free button (on the centre-console) which has the head with sound waves coming out as a picture on it. Then the car will start to transmitt the bluetooth signal which your phone should pick-up. Then you will need to enter the PIN number, etc.

hittling with a hammer will not fix noises. The knock helps to free the brushes to enable them to make contact with the com. IF you have to hit it chances are you need to repair it.

I have a full shim kit. Let me know what size you need. I can send them pretty quickly so your car is not out of action.

Farewell 5d carbon roof wrap, you were awesome. Untitled by Christian Taylor, on Flickr Much paint correction later Untitled by Christian Taylor, on Flickr 33201121684_ed1441e067_o by Christian Taylor, on Flickr I was still not happy, check out the deep scratches around the light reflection. These are actually my fault, I had a magnetic aerial on there for one of the early Gumboot Rallies. There's only about 80 microns of paint left on this panel so I didn't have much to work with. So I took it to the guys at GT Refinishers for a respray of the panel. What they do is entirely up to them, Grant suggested a base of black with a layer of silver xirallac which sounds pretty interesting to me. Let's see what comes back!

well, I finally got this thing going after a fair bit of arsing around and avoidance. It goes really well straight out of the box. flew through a warrant and then i took it to the West Coast the next day. 500km round trip without an issue. Everything about it is functional and pleasingly tight. Very nice engine the m54b30 - surprisingly it's a bit gruntier than my E30 M40B18. Even the suspension feels tight as. I'd quite like some style 68 wheels. What is this staggered thing people talk about? and does anyone know how to connect to the bluetooth on it. i have a small TV screen and tape inside and a nav cd unit and 6 cd stacker in boot. have tried googling but nothing works. The missus will use this car quite a lot when I'm not taking it to a track day or stealing it off her and making her drive my work RAV4. Her main comment is that she doesn't like white - no amount of "But VANOS, twin cam, alloy block, manual 5 speed, renowned driver's car babe" convinces her otherwise. I'll punish her with a cool coloured 1300cc auto nissan Micra one day but she'll have to slum it for now. I have 4 cars - all white - it didn't happen on purpose but I genuinely like white. The E46 looks crisp in this colour. I'm taking it to a local Ruapuna track day as soon as I can - within the next couple of months. is the blown gasket bottom end/head without sensors or ancillaries of any use to anyone? cams got surface rust from sitting in guys garage without cover on but everything looks good from the bottom

I had an issue with my daughters 2000 Mercedes Benz SLK230. It had no power. Did some checks and the compressor valve (think waste gate in a turbo) wasnt closing. Many owners have wasted lost of money trying to resolve the issue - there is often several error codes. The fix is rediculously simple. Inside the power distribution case on the left side ubder the bonnet is a black box full of relays. Remove it and take the cover off and check for dry joints. Solder any dry joints, out it back in and your car will be transformed. Btw the compressor valve is over $700. I've read of people replacing it and the ECU, and the relay board costing thousands. The trouble is oeople dont repair anymore - they replace. Jim

And the ones I use have Euro DIN reflectors in exactly the same pattern. I'm not suggesting they're the same, rather that they have the same reflective qualities, They'd fail a "genuine" test well before you got to the reflective image, you simply can't pass the Euro ones off as genuine NZ plates. The German ones are however functionally identical and that was the point I was attempting to make.

Nothing extreme, it was in one of my E30 325i's, manual. Long story short, wet day, put the car in second instead of fourth going around a corner and slid into the curb and buckled one of the wheels! Basically since then I've done all my test drives and most people get an inspection done prior to buying anyway. In regards to the sale, its already sold subject to finance and inspection from a guy in Hawkes Bay
