much better to add a prancing moose badge, I reckon. Never did get around to buying some for my 855-T5.

Good question, I personally would go with the 316Ti badge as I have always loved a good sleeper, can be funny to see the looks on peoples faces when you surprise them with your "racecar in shitbox clothing"

You might want to update your car list Apologies for the low light iPhone shot (probably time for a new phone...)

yes, I think those of us in the Welly contingent should chip in and buy a 518i badge for @TermiPeteNZ's M5. yes, the exhausts and big rubber betray it from behind, but hey... maybe I should do a 518i badge for my 545i, too!

Mate I am glad you got this car, the E60 really is a nice drive and with the mods you have done it will be very rewarding.

PS: in my last job, one of my workmates opined that I really shouldn't have a radar detector, in light of our work. I countered "hey, if our goverment wishes to broadcast on those frequencies, it's still legal for me listen! This is just a really high frequency tuned radio receiver with high selectivity and some cool programmable auto-muting features."

yes definitely worth it IMHO/IME; gives me sufficient warning to check my speed, and does so around two out of five days of my commute. I run a Bel Magnum STi. Escort Redline is basically the same (same company, different product line), but $100 more in NZ. There's a lot written on US sites about how much better the STi got with the hardware upgrade toward end of 2014/early 2015, and that sample variation now accounts for more than the performance gap between the two models. I'd run a Bel 995 for a few years before, and liked the voice warnings; there's different voicings between BEL and Escort. I run mine set up with no lights, no visual warnings on the dash. More stealthy. The only lights are on the remote mute on the cig lighter, so again, muting is stealthy - no visible hand to the dash. YMMV. You get different tones depending on type of radar/lidar. I get so little warning on Redflex camera vans or stationary radar, I think the minor diff's US to NZ not worth worrying about. If there is in fact a receiver bandwidth difference. I found it difficult to truly suss out the freq differences betweem US and NZ models. If you buy an STi you're welcome to make a list with me of the exclusive NZ programming features that the Road & Track guys were so f$%king cagey about, from mine. After shelling out the extra money to buy local, from R&T, I was left wondering why I bothered and figured I should have purchased from Amazon. In use? Worked example... doing 50-55 past silversteam station, as I pass the lights heading north onto the straight part of Fergusson Drive, I'll pick up mobile Ka coming toward me just after they've passed through the lights and passed Palmer Ave. On the highway, you'll get suffucuent time to check... about double what I used to get with my 995. And I get less 'noise' with my STi. Laser, not so much warning, though you should get scatter from other cars first. Instant-on radar? Nothing's invincible, man! Let me know how you get on. If you want to dip your toe in the water, my Bel 995 is cased and on the shelf, yours for $300.

Prancing Moose that is pure gold, if I had a Volvo I would have that badge

I had small STI stickers on the sills of my Evo 6.5 for shits and giggles. I also had 21lbs of boost if anyone wanted to give me sh*t. One thing that gets me is people who use the wrong era ///M badge (or any badge for that matter). Like the curved e46 ///M used on e36's. Nup, just wrong.

Hey Vinu, suspension is nothing flash, just a set of super-low springs with some fairly tired standard shocks. Looks a bit lower due to the 17" rims and skinny tyres. Ha, wadda you know, I'm part of the lower it and big rims brigade I mentioned, funny. In all honesty it is probably a bit too low and it affects the ride quality and the usefulness of the car. I am seriously thinking of putting the race series suspension into the vert and tidying up my 15" weaves for it, so it looks a lot more factory.

If you want to be accurate, and believed. 316i badge. 316i compacts never wore a Ti badge

Putting the manual in will definately INCREASE the value of the car, provided it is done to a decent standard. Any manual E30 is more desirable than an auto for the mass market, and especially the lower it and add big rims brigade that seem to be into E30s at the moment. As above, if you can get the parts for a good price, full conversion should be around $1,000 for used parts, add a couple of hundred bucks for replacing some of the worn out bits to do it right, and if you can do it all yourself (which isn't too hard) you will add more than that to the sell price of the car IMHO.

Trademe is a bit of a joke, they are not interested in solving anything nor can they really do anything. I think they just have the legal jargon in there in the hope it will keep people in line. I've bought wheels before and had the seller say he sold them to someone else and refunded my money (much to my protest), I've had things like gearboxes never turn up and the response is the same each time. The police didn't really have time for it either, even though I had TM auction details/screenshots, bank transfer receipt, txt messages his bank details, address and car rego. Trademe like other sales methods (facebook etc) rely on the person actually being decent and honest, seems to a be a dying thing as there's a lot of sh*t heads out there.

Took advantage of the glorious weather and took the vert for one more Sunday drive. Clicked over 80,000miles on the way back. Not bad for a 30 year old car.

Spent a large amount of the weekend cleaning and putting on the winter coat of wax. Went with chrisfix's 'superclean' method, dishwashing liquid foam cannon to remove old wax and any accumulated oils etc, then clay bar, spot fix the clearcoat (I skipped this bit though), and apply the wax. I'm happy with how it turned out, having trouble getting rid of the headlight condensation on the RHS though.

The Donor parts car turned up yesterday. Spent most of today stripping it down ie: all the manual conversion stuff! And any interior parts I might need along the way.... I am also going to to try & convert the rear drums to disc.
