Well my recent post about having a crash in my 330d, has now resulted in the purchase of a 2004 530d. The insurance company wrote of my 330d, as repair was over the 75% of the insured value. A pity. There was no damage to any water, aircon, or motor. It was just panel damage. The lf inner guard is a little bit dented, but the panel beater told me that would have pulled out easily. It all came down to costing and the annoying GST content......that is really what pushed it over! Anyway, the 530d that s being collected on Wednesday next week. Will post up some pics once it is mine. Graeme

Bought the world's most expensive cupholder for one of the E39's. The cost of the new cupholder was enough to have Customs pick up this latest package for GST etc- added $150 to the cost of the package- package duly arrives with a left hand drive cupholder inside So will have to pay return shipping to FCP Euro- then buy the correct one! Rookie mistake

Its been a week now and over 250 odd kms and no engine light - woo hoo! (and if I had wood trim I will be touching it all at this point hehe) But even better than that is the OBC says 6.8l/100kms - I don't think I want to re-calibrate this haha

And to do it properly it needs to go to the Pre Purchase facility over night to carry out hot & cold checks. We will not now carry out any PPI and put our name to it on any late model Euro if we can't have it overnight to check it properly. Especially the cooling system and cold start noises.

Spent a little time in the shed tonight, will spend the whole long weekend in it getting everything sorted hopefully!. before my last track day (summer matsuri) i decided to put a e36 ti rear sub frame in my e30, all my rear bushes were pretty well shot and id stumbled across a bunch of e34 alloy 15 inch rims. The e34 having a 20 offset they fit the e30 pretty nicely, little closer to the guard and while not the best looking wheel they are tidy enough (type 2 i think?). I freshened up the subframe, delrin bushes and ajustible bushes in the rear arms. Fitted it all up and was happy with the car, other then the bc golds which were far to soft in spring rate for my liking but i have swapped them now. Anyway my work in on the car for the last week has been around putting e36 front hubs into my e30. Ive hunted high and low for different blogs and videos even parts lists but none of them seem to give me the answer to the castor issues around the e36 conversion. Now i know the propper way is to use m3 parts and lists say m3 arms and z3 this evo that. The only true measured answer I can find is wisefab or slr. Lets be honnest if i was going to spend that much on the car in one purchase it would be on a bent 8 but thats for a later date. I took a measurement of the stock e30 spindle centre (wheel bearing, stub call it what you want) then i loosely assembled the e36 hub on a coil over so its at the same full extention height and took another measurement. On the stock e30 arms with the e36 hubs the centre worked out roughly 35mm further back in the car. Alot of caster lost!. I took my tape into work and measured up the e30 which has e30 evo arms, slr c.a.b's and lock blocks. It still measures up 15mm back from stock e30 hubs.. which may explain the excessive fire wall rub. So tube arms it is. I sorced some 3/4 by 5/8 rod ends and 3/4 by 3/4 rod ends from cardwells, at around $21 each they are worth getting. I sorced some high misalignment bushes from waikato bearings for the outer rod ends, the angles a hub goes through with camber castor and high amounts of lock i figured better safe then sorry. Jimmy from my old work spun up some weld in spuds for me, hes machining a few spacers and doublers for me which will come into play later in my story. Now the tube im using is 38mm roll cage tube, easy to work with and a roll cage is next on my list (being bent up currently) I took some measurements from the old arms and changed them to suit the e30 factory castor measurement. My biggest concern now is the spindle has alot of angle in it which wont afect the lower arm but the steering end being factory for the moment but i will work on that this weekend. Amyway if anyone has gone down a simmilar route with their e30s or other bmw chassis drop a message with what you have done, i hope to make a great amount of progress this weekend so will update as i go!. cheers

These are fantastic! i have used it to check faults codes, change light and lock settings etc. well worth the money as any trip to the shop to plug into the computer is at least $50 each time.

Open all the compartments in the boot and check for signs of water, well known issue in these! I also went for the V10, it seems to be one of the more reliable engines they fitted to these !

Looks tidy. Given the state of e30 pricing, a bidding war on TradeMe could net you upwards of $5k5 or more. my old e30 touring was also white with shadowline, this really brings back a wave of nostalgia. GLWS, I should imagine this will be very, very easy to sell.

If you look at pictures 7 & 8 it looks like evidence it has that problem. Many other issues with these, especially the 4.8 petrol

you're in luck. There are a few of us here running e60, and some amongst with V8 (or even V10). First port of call is "So you've just bought an e60" http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=731460 download the latest version of the PDF, have a good read. If you're not put off by that (and you shouldn't be), read on! I've had an e60 545i for 2.5 months and am loving it. The 550 and ///Msport wagon combo should be lovely, a bit more horsepower and torque than the 545. The e60/61 is a great distance car, a real sleeper. Very composed. Great comfort and pretty high-tech (usefully high-tech) compared with earlier cars. Very, Very important - get the sunroof drains cleared, and the rubber grommets in the rear wheel well behind the inner guards cleared out and drilled out so they don't block in future. Blocked sunroof drains account for many of these going to the wreckers, the electronics get drowned. Also ++NB: Transmission maintenance (new filter pan, mechtronics sealing sleeve, bolts, fluid) is essential; the ZF 6 speed is a lovely trans, though does not respond well to neglect despite BMW's "sealed for life" or "lifetime fluid" strapline. ZF themselves recommend periodic maintenance. Wheel Alignment issues account for most active steering issues. There's a few more bushes in the front suspension compared with the 3 series setups, and the car will tell you if it needs attention through wobbles or vagueness. I think the active steering is well-executed on this model. YMMV. If you're lucky enough to get Dynamic Drive (active anti-roll bars), you're in for a flat-cornering surprise. Having driven back-to-back regular and dynamic drive, I'm very happy to have scored the latter. Consider an MBI policy to cover you for the big-ticket items. They're a pretty tekkernogikal car, and when "sh*t goes wrong" it can be pricey. Since acquiring mine (itself well maintained), I've done new shocks and bushes, new tyres, new coils, and am about to do a transmission service. I enjoy every minute behind the wheel, and have no regrets about the purchase. Hope that helps. EDIT: PS, welcome to the forum, Paul!

Hey Bimmersporters. Coils getting you down with misfires? Need some in your shed/toolkit to use for troubleshooting - figure out which coil is knackered before you buy a new replacement? Here's SIX used but functional OEM coils pulled from my M54B25. I had occasional misfires on two of the cylinders. Number six was newer, replaced in Japan before the car came to NZ - it looks like it may be a Bosch. The rest are Bremi. They're the ones that are fastened with bolts, and have the electrical clip on. Buy four coils, get two for free! I'd split them in to two lots of three, except I don't know which two were providing occasional misfires. So take the whole bunch at a knock-down price! Pricing: $50 shipped anywhere in NZ. Think of it as ten bucks each for four coils, with two for free, plus freight capped at ten bucks. NO GST - this one's a private sale. Bargain! Just to be clear, they're used coils, no warranty expressed or implied. Bremi part is 860T. OE numbers are 12137599219, 12131748018, 12139067830. With M54, later engines went with the later coils as in my other advert. These are okay for 2000 540i. One's (I think) a Bosch, can't tell as the numbers have been sanded off. Yep folks, six for the price of four, you'll figure out which two are sub-optimal. They're old, used coils - sold for troubleshooting. Here's the modelling pics, so you know what you're looking at.

Whats up everyone. Names Adrian! Thought id finaly join up to bimmersport, have had my e30 for about 5 years now but have only recently started doing any real work to it. I will start up a bit of a build thread, for anyone whos interested, mostly track use and drift abuse but still aimed at being road legal. Cheers!
