The drivetrain changes here for me are the ultimate goal. Anyone got a E39 drivetrain lying about they want to get rid of? https://petrolicious.com/articles/this-engine-swapped-six-speed-sedan-is-the-m7-that-bmw-never-built

I thought some of you may be interested in this info I found on the net explaining the origin of the ///M colours. I'm sure some of you already know. With regards to the red, a lot of people say it actually represents BMW's relationship with Castrol, rather than Texaco. Apparently Castrol was mentioned in a Roundel issue I'm not making any claims regarding the accuracy of this information so don't flame me personally if you think its wrong or you've heard different!

I used to do heaps of it ages ago. It's definitely a game of patience and taking your time and making sure the right tools for the job, right adhesion products on the right surfaces also pays off in the long run. Been a pain in the ass ended up cracking the bumper because some one before i got the car did a crap repair on the bumper and ended up cracking it. Running it pretty close to the wire getting it painted this weekend. Lol have an open home on the property tomorrow so have to get this work in progress on the road. Fun fun

Ten grand for this is crazy. Sure there's a potential downside; as there is with any vehicle - and the upside in this is massive. For ten grand. Ten. Grand. Anyone wanna buy a 330i Touring for $10k? (kidding).

Also check the intake hose between the throttle body and the AFM, and the hoses either side of the ICV. Check all vacuum lines you can as well, a small air leak can cause the above symptoms as well as the parts Gabe79 mentioned.

I'd flush the system (with inexpensive synthetic oil) and then refill with a good synthetic. Penrite HPR5 is perfect, especially when on special at Repco. A million opinions won't change this, it's fact. Now, for my M3 I use Castrol Edge. You should actually avoid Magnatec in NZ because it's a mineral blend (mineral = bad). But 'Edge grade' oil can't be justified in a m52.

Hi Jordan, Over the last 20 years of driving 6 cylinder E36 BMWs, I have always used Castrol Magnatic 10w40. Sometimes you can get a good deal, but in general the Magnatec 10w40 is around $50 for 4L...and you will need around 6L (so you will need to buy 2 x 4 Litres). Best I ever got was 5 months ago when I bought 2 x 4 Litres of Magnatec for $27-00 each. Good luck.

Wow that was a mint car. I mean I am looking for something as mint as I can find, but with grandpa spec I meant more unmolested and original rather than completely mint. I wouldn't mind something a bit rough around the edges as long as it wasn't too bad. I mean I am still trying to find a 6 cyl manual coupe for 6k-7k, and somewhere you have to make sacrifices, even if to me a car for that money already seems expensive.

5x120 is the stud pattern. 5 is obviously the number of studs or bolt holes and the 120 is the diameter of the studs (mm) as in the picture below. For example e30 is 4x100, 4 lug holes and a diameter of 100mm The offset is the distance from the mounting face to the centerline of the wheel (measured in mm). Zero offset means the mounting face is in line with the centerline of the wheel. Positive means the mounting face is towards the outside of the wheel. Negitive is the opposite, mounting face towards the inside of the wheel. Higher positive offsets are generally found on front wheel drive cars. Negitive offsets are generally associated with large amounts of dish (with a large width). BMW's run positive offsets. E28, E30, E34, E38, E39 etc (The majority of the BMW range) run offsets in the range of 15-25 running normal factory widths. The E36 chassis (E36/Z3), E46 (non M3), E53, E70, E8X, E9X all run higher offsets in the range of 35-45 running factory widths. The E21 and the E30 are the only E code bimmers that run 4 stud. The rest of the range runs 5x120. As the wheels get wider the offset you will need for the car will change as if you increase the width but keep the same offset the wheel will get wider evenly on both sides and may either hit the strut or the guard. Generally as you get wider you would want to lower the offset as you have more room to work under the guards than towards the strut. Hope that helps.
