Some person thought it would be a good idea to park this outside work the other day, and then make me drive the bloody thing for two hours.

Hey Amrit I agree a lot of people do prefer to buy <5yrs and <100KMs to just reduce risk and have a vehicle with less wear and tear. From my perspective, add a 3 or 4-year mechanical breakdown insurance plan (Autosure/DPL is great) for <$2K and you'll get a premium, high-spec vehicle with relatively low risk.

Then you may as well just fit a section of 5" pipe, as that is all a hollow cat is, tend to sound pretty bad from examples of cars with that done which I've heard.

A rare classic parked in Wellingtons CBD. Had a quick chat to the owner and this is one pristine example. Owner didn't say out right but hinted that it has had a full no expense resto. And man did it sound sweeeeet! 1971 Holden Monaro GTS (genuine too!):

You could buy a new cheap car and watch it depreciate like a stone or buy the 7 year old BMW with 100,000 km and enjoy driving it while trading off a portion of the reduced depreciation to budget $1000 per year on maintenance. I just bought a 17 year old BMW with 90,000km and it runs superbly. Cheap motoring on a total cost basis.

At close to 100k miles thought it a good time for a valve lash inspection, the motor sounds good i.e no noisy tappet sounds so was hoping everything would be within spec and it was, intakes were all .007-.009 and the exhaust .011-.013. If anyone wants to borrow my tools and shim set let me know. The biggest issue was removing the fan, man that thing was on tight and the fan removal tool i brought was bending under the pressure and started to strip the nut, so brought a proper 32mm spanner which did the trick along with some good penetrating lube. Planning on ditching the mechanical fan for an electric unit as they have been know to disintegrate and destroy radiators, dent the hood etc.

Hey Pete, I know this car, yes it is a Jap import, I did full groom on it for the owner, I am not surprised it is for sale, as they have quite a few cars & he purchased this after seeing my M535i & had serious car envy!! It is a really good solid car, only downside is it left hand drive

Easy, keep the grey one. Dolphin metallic is THE best E30 colour, and paint is more expensive and harder to DIY than mechanicals. IMHO.

Little update. Got new headlights, decided I wanted it to look more modern so got some LED's Before: After A smoke test revealed a failed grommet in the back of the intake manifold, hopefully that is the reason it stalls when returning to idle. A scan revealed the airbag module is faulty along with the oil level sensor. Parts are on there way... Got an OEM tow bar complete with towing module from Ray. It's in, just need to extend the loom to make it to the LCM.

Have used one very similar and crashed in it. Was comfortable and easy to use. As said can ride up abit. Biggest diwnside is they often use 2 inch belts instead of three inch. Can make a difference when spreading load. I hit a wall at taupo track at 60kph head on. No major bruising etc around belts which i have had on a factory three point previously. Bigget plus to the five point is it keeps the belt on your hip bone rather than higher where it can damage bladder spleen etc in an impact
