Did some late night wrenching after my E36 failed WoF (front outter ball-joints loose). Removed Control Arms to replace the ball-joints. Got carried away and: Removed rear caliper and discs, cleaned up hubs and dust covers. I picked up some E46 328i rear calipers and discs to replcace them with as they're a slight upgrade on the E36 rear end. Will be on the hunt for 330i front brakes next. Pulled old shocks (labelled as 318is, in a 6cyl, may have contributed to soft rear end) before I upgrade the suspension front and back. Also have some new rear side window seals to replace the cracked and hardened ones on there atm.

I haven't seen a conversation take such a quick turn to the gutter since I frequented 4chan

A good friend has a hoist in his unit (behind your sushi shop) I can use whenever needed.

If it’s something you may want to tune down the track, the 335i has to be on the test drive list. The e9x platform is so nicely balanced. I prefer it to the current 3 series in terms of feel. It’s an excellent daily driver and also long distance cruiser. I get remarkable economy for the performance. I enjoy a BMW V8, and I really like the e60 but the 335i puts more smiles on my face day to day.

I insure my project E46 coupe through AA classic cover. $84 per year as long as it's in a garage or similar. All you have to say is that it is in storage, that it is being restored and that once back on the road you'll be driving less that 5,000km per year.

Saying any BMW is just taking the piss. For 2000+ era cars its not a bad idea when you look at part prices and labor required.

OP - Good to see a fellow ClubSub member on here! I was in a similar situation to you, but I just couldn't let go of my Subbie. I've got a v7 sti Wagon, tuned etc, although not making as much power as yours (214kw atw). Have you considered buying a daily and keeping the Subbie as a weekend toy? After some shopping around I settled on a e90 330i, and I must say its a fantastic cruiser and it a nice place to be on long trips. I managed to find one with sports suspension, adaptive steering and a few extras. Both cars a pretty much complete opposites. BMW is a smooth ride with that straight 6 and minimal road noise, but has very direct handling. The Subaru is loud af, thanks to the 3" turbo back, lots of road noise. But when that boost comes on it always brings a smile on my face. I agree since Subaru's are more accessible to the younger crowd, doing mods willynilly with no tune, engines go boom. I've had mine for the past 6 years, always on top of maintenance and I've never had one problem with it. Extremely reliable car. I would suggest a mechanical warranty for any BMW, in the last year I've had the brake booster and water pump fail. Would have cost me 2.5k otherwise, I think I need to change my coil packs soon as I'm getting some shaky start-ups. I usually do my own servicing on my cars, but with the warranty I'm required to take it into a shop for servicing which is also added cost.

Sorry to drag this one up again, starting to plan out my dash for the rally car, keen just have a tacho in the middle then something like this in the centre console so the co-driver can keep an eye on things to. Is there any progression? cheers

PS: what's the point of waiting for "the right one" to dip your toe in the water? Get your ass behind the wheel of a 550i, and a 550i motorsport. If you like it, you can then do your sums, and find the perfect white one to buy. And also drive an e90 330i. I think the complexity and associated costs of a 335i will really scare you off.

The PCB is now partly loaded with the parts I had in stock. The remaining bits won't be here until mid next week. At least the software testing can begin...

Been pretty quiet on this build for a while, ran a bearing back in June so it's been up with Kayne Barrie for a rebuild. Why not just buy a plastic bucket about $5.00 and put a raised grate in the bottom. Something like what is used to put baking on these are chrome plated. Should let the dirt drop to the bottom of the bucket and keep the clothes clean
