USA retail price is also low. The 1M was retailing for the same amount as I paid for an 8 year old e46 m3 at the time. Couldn’t believe the base spec was $43k USD which was about $50k NZ at the time. 1M retail was $100k nzd but slightly higher spec Drove the M3 today outside of normal commute mode?. If people have the means you’ve got to own one at some stage in your life. Bucket list car

So... its been a while since I have been here and I guess I should provide some updates! So another year or so passed with the car just sitting in the garage most of the time, and being bought out for the occasional show or cruise. After 4's and Rotors 2018 I decided the car needed a bit of a change up.... and hence the process of beginning a wrap came to mind. Now, 90's touring cars are amazing looking machines in my mind, and most are sponsored by cigarettes or alcohol. The only thing that I could think that would work well with the red would of course be the classic white and red Marlboro livery!!! I do have to say that putting the wrap on took a hell of a lot more time than I ever thought! Wrapping around the door handles was tricky and we didn't get the job perfect, however it looks great in photos and definitely turns some heads! I managed to pickup some ratty old rims, that I quickly gave a coating of white paint to and chucked my semi slicks onto. I do have to say they turned out far better than I could have imagined! Then came the day of Chrome Expression Sessions, and the car ran perfectly! Not a drop of oil used, and it handled fantastically all weekend! Was interesting to see that the car wasnt as slow as I expected against everything else that was there down the straight too!

Looks like we're moving to Oueroa. (Look it up!) Once I know the road a little better, it'll be about 20 minutes to work.

Today I spent time in my basement workshop, cleaning up and clearing a workspace. I’d forgotten about the bench vice a friend of ours gave me years ago. I thought it was knackered, today I was pleasantly surprised to find it just needed some oil. It’ll get a full refurb in future. So I set to finding the right 10mm drill bit to mount it to my carpentry workbench (it has a woodworking vice at the other end). And, a trip to Bunnings for some more 10mm 40x40x3mm zinc square washers. Result. With my workshop HiFi playing Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness, I got productive. I stripped down the two Girling front calipers. If you don’t have a compressor to get the pistons out, a track bicycle pump will do. It was after I got the first one out, I remembered Jon’s warning about a flood of brake fluid ?. I removed the pins, boots, seals (not the inner seal inside the bore), hoses, and bleed nipples. The pistons are good. A little mild burnishing in a couple of spots (around a centimeter Square), they’re visible though I can’t feel them with a fingernail. The slider pins were a bit tight and corroded in two of the holes. Uncertain how do address that. Do I measure the new pins, use the right size drill to dress it? Valve grind paste? I used a ton of brake cleaner on the two main parts. Then donned my PPE (muffs, goggles, and respirator), and started the naughty wellington strip. It feels good to be productive. Strained my back walking down the street with my Volvo battery yesterday; this was better than sitting around acknowledging the pain. This post brought to you by shitloads of tools acquired over the past 35 years, 90’s Rock, and the power of Naprosyn ? I’ll continue stripping them back to prep for painting. VHT caliper paint, and then rebuild next week.

Ouch. Try SuperPro, Aussie company and they have some good original thinking when it comes to bushes. Am using their RTAB and FLCA poly bushes on the M3 and am happy. Prices were very reasonable when I got mine a few years back.

The self-employed (in all senses of the word) route might work in the field I've been investigating... In a few years' time. At present, it's simply not sufficiently profitable to make sense. A shame, as it has been an interesting journey (and could be one I continue). Most recently I've been working with a local surveying firm, investigating ways to deploy survey markers (Ground Control Points) without actually going to the areas where they are required. It can be done with GPS (and 4/5G or wireless communications between a drone and base station, aka Ground Control Station) but there are benefits in 'walking' the land to see exactly what the terrain is like. That'll be coming to an end shortly, as I have been offered a role in Central Hawkes Bay. Exciting times down there, too... Which means another headache for us. Rent, or buy? How do we relocate all our 'stuff' economically? Oh well... No-one said life was easy!

Thanks Dave. The only thing you got completely wrong is "all bark and no bite" Go drive one... the 1.6T DCT 7 AWD version. Then comment.

Thanks Kyu. I'm very pleased how it's turned out. Special black out to my specs organised through the dealer. First Lagoon Blue one done in NZ. I might come along with it to a Sunday meeting when I get back from overseas if I'm allowed to park somewhere.
