Long time lurker here but I thought I should finally post something and introduce myself & my cars properly. 2005 E63 650i with an SMG - I know this may be contentious but it really is a hell of a lot of fun to drive (once you get the knack to it) and actually makes it more than just a comfortable barge cruiser. 1996 E36 M3 Evo with alloy doors - this is/was my dream car. It has everything I wanted in an M3 and the colour is truly wicked in the sun. I'm definitely interested in seeing if there is much of a euro scene here in Taranaki, or anywhere! Sorry for the amateur photos! (And the weeds..) Cheers, Connor

low fluid level will cause it to go into limp mode will show up under hard braking or cornering

Sounds like it has multiply issues so you'd have to scan it first to see where you are at. Its likely has the original transmission fluid and filter can cause issues and accelerate wear on known weak points such as the torque converter. Brakes could be many things like an ABS\DSC unit failure, sensors, master cylinder or leaks\air in the system.

The Tyre warning system uses the abs to detect differences in wheel speeds and compares to steering angle sensor, so a long but gentle corner can set it off, mine has done it a few times. I have just put PS 4ss on the front to go with the rears, can't fault them so far...

M5 update Driving in to Auto38 I got a loss of tyre pressure warning - just for fun Pressures looked fine - Jon reinitialized the tyre pressure monitor and we'll see how it goes. Has happened once before. He found gasket leaks in the S85's secondary electrical scavenge pumps that help with oil supply when cornering hard. Also observed that rear tyres are about had it so I'll be replacing those this coming week. Expect to get Michelin Pilot Sport 4s - reading overseas reviews they come out well. The Falkens were on it when I got it and have lasted around 14000KMs. Other stuff On another note, pondering picking up a F30 335i Luxury model as new daily driver... bit of a modern car by my standards!

I've barely driven them beyond Wellington. Initial impressions: Softer sidewalls (at same pressure) providing a more comfortable ride. Amazing grip at the back (275 vs 245); the extra drive can provoke understeer in some circumstances (I don't think 1/2" narrower front rims help - EDIT: WRONG, they are 8.5's on front) - EDIT - nope, it's actually 8J and 9J. Quieter than the RE003's Plenty of grip overall PS: turn-in not quite as sharp. (close, but no cigar). Haven't pushed them yet, nor driven them in very heavy rain on open road. Overall, pretty favourable. Broadly equivalent to each other, with minor strengths/weaknesses opposing. If Bridgestone did RE003 in 275/35R18 [EDIT: in NZ] they'd have gone straight on. Update in a couple of weeks.

Why cheap out on the most important safety equipment on your vehicle, along with tyres?

19 September 2019. 175yyykms 1. Headlight hazing treated. Wellingtonians should contact @Autoglym for this (professional) treatment. I'd refinished lamp lenses before, wanted this sorted and knew Barry could provide an excellent service. "before and after science" (spot the music reference - 5 pts to whomever names it without google etc) RH Before RH After LH Before LH After. Magic! With thanks to @Autoglym for the before and after photos! 2. Steering Wheel refurbished. Wellingtonians should contact Andrew at Fibrenew. My steering wheel was a little tired, needed more TLC than I could provide. It's come up feeling and looking superb! 3. WoF passed with no advisories. Another year secured. Now for a wash and polish, ahead of the Gentle Annie trip.

Remove, clean and test the throttle position sensor (TPS) also. Mine gave me all sorts of crazy engine symptoms until I tracked it down. You need a range of ~3 ohms between min and max throttle on both sets of pins (centre+left, centre+right) as you actuate the sensor by hand. It should be a smooth increase (one side) and decrease (the other side). Range should be from about 1.5 ohms to 4.5 ohms but the ~3 ohm delta is the important part.

The vanos had been getting progressively worse over the past few weeks so I had to do something about it quickly. I considered doing the job as I had done it previously but decided against it as I don't have the time to do it myself. Kayne Barrie did a wonderful job of rebuilding the unit doing both the seals and rattle kit and it's now running pretty mint. Not sure why but my unit (like some others) was filled with orange silicone.. I've read that this was BMW's approved method of keeping the solenoids from popping out at the time? Anyways, all running smooth now!

It's all relative, it could be something that's cheap, for an M5!

Removed all brake calipers and brackets off the vehicle to wire brush and sand the crap out of them before I paint them. Only done one bracket and the quantity of brake dust is insane

The day of reckoning. Went to the certifier knowing it wouldn't pass due to the correct front springs not showing up in time (I now have a deep hatred for NZ Couriers ?). Couple of left field faults but no real show stoppers. Speedo will require some research, not too sure how tough that'll be. Exhaust wrap to save the steering UJ is easy enough. MAF bracket is something that's always needed doing but haven't pulled the trigger on a subtle enough CAI design yet. Spring pre-load, droop, perches touching tyres and NDT are already sussed. Him wanting to see the groove around the circumference of the splined shaft of the steering rack is an absolute PIA, but who am I to argue. Overall, not the worst result. Passed with just the one driveshaft hoop and he wasn't concerned with the z3 rack retrofit.

I decided to go with some staggered M contours (style 23). They look pretty good in my opinion. Will take some better photos at some point.

Birthday treats have arrived! Also managed to find the flashdrive which contains all of the photos of the cars history and tells a good story (Just over 200 photos). Very stoked to have the whole swap documented thanks to Tim.
