Hey Team So getting a fair bit done to this build. Cleaned the engine bay, Fitted a custom braided clutch line, custom clutch fluid reservoir utilising the old c101 plug holder, manual pedal swap Lucky enough my setup had a single spring on the clutch pedal. I didnt have to go through the whole dreaded steering column removal. retro fitted e46 drive by wire pedal, test fitted motor with trans and custom headers to check for clearances issues, test fitted RTD shifter from my e46 build which fits perfectly so im going to keep it for this car and shorten the selector rod too. Started the wiring from Condor speed and it seems qute easy with good instructions. Feeding the wire throught the e-box and through a fan hole. Little bracket made to hold oil filter housing, New brake disc and pads to install Will start on rear and front bushings tomorrow and send the driveshaft to get shorten. Getting so close

I have the same setup, so any questions fire away. I canโ€™t take the credit for putting it all together, that was another member. I just dropped it into my compact

It is pretty weird TBH - and I say that as someone who is actively looking to spend (waste / invest?) a lot of money on an E30. E34's are great value at the moment, especially the 540i (we have seen a few really nice M535is go for good money in past 6 months). For me personally, I've decided my next car needs to be comparatively light, compact and manual (along with a healthy dose of 'I've always wanted one and actively eating up the E30 hype machine). I'm jealous of the value on offer with an E34 though, fantastic buying if you want something a bigger and more comfortable.

Lots of miles on this one, but it just looks so clean. I really like that paint colour. On the face of it someone has looked after it. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/530i/listing/3309124308?bof=0V09Hj0Q $5k ONO

Ooo thanks! I was searching your thread to try find the eBay seller you recommended for the wrap to no avail. Could you enlighten me?

Spotted this yesterday as well, who know what issues its got though im guessing its why its going via Turners. There a few non M SMG's around (just bought one my self) The box is modified ZF 5 speed with mainly rear section being different. You can't easily convert the box to manual like the M3 versions as they don't use an external shifter rod, hence no where to attach any linkages. Driveshaft, cross member and diff are all the same as manuals though so you get half a manual conversion already.

Hey Team So managed to get a few small items sorted. Refitting factory radiator so i can get the aircon and powersteering lines from the e46 to work. Had to customize the rad hoses abit to work with the motor. Got the drive shaft and steering shaft back, both fitted and working a treat. Shorten the selector rod too to work with the RTD shifter. With a bit more room now, Im hoping to be able to make some decent headers for it. Also have to get the aircon hoses custom made as the factory ones dont line up, she's pretty tight due to not allowed to cut into the chassis rail. Spoke to the machine shop and hopefully not too long on the oil pump either.

I bought an E30 ~10 years ago after soley owning half a dozen E34\E32's. Everyone was talking about them then and most of this board owned one in those days. They were great cars for money back then (still are minus the money part) but no BMW really else drives and looks like them whilst still being available and mostly financially obtainable. If you think E34 are under valved go look at E36 Ti's prices, basically the E30 driving experience without most of the common issues. They just happen suffer from not looking very good for a BMW during 90's and not many 6 cylinders made, otherwise they would probably be far more popular. 3 series will always be more popular than 5 series for smaller car reasons, lower numbers of 5 series manuals doesn't help things.

Doesn't really bother me... it's all part of the learning process. I was doing a conversion that as far as I could discover, no-one else had ever done anywhere. So I had no reference installation and had to nut everything out for myself. Pretty much a full custom build from the ground up, and of course none of the bits I needed to make it work were readily available. Just simple things like tight radius 2-1/2" ali bends had to made from donuts sourced from Aussi. Long, slow process but there was a lot of satisfaction in seeing it through to completion. Tackling a project that is outside of your comfort zone is a is a real test of character !! But so worth it when you are driving the finished result ๐Ÿ˜Ž Cheers...

Yeah... you need to figure out everything you need (or might need) and put it down on paper first. Solving problems is a lot cheaper when it is just at the sketch on paper stage. If I had done that I would not have bought two different bypass valves and discovered that neither of them could do what I needed. After some serious googling I ended up re-purposing a valve from a junkyard Subaru Legacy turbo that turned out to be perfect for my application !!! I know all about making mistakes Cheers...

Ill be using a recirculating valve for sure, inbetween the throttle body and maf, they say to us the bigger 32mm valve but I might stick to 25mm. - Im not a fabricator unfortunatley so alot of the parts will be sourced.

Hey I was thinking about doing a build thread and showing my progress, im just in the process of gathering a few more parts - the biggest hurdle Im going through at the moment is how I am going to run the plumbing as Im going to use an intercooler since im running the 80mm pulley from HMW so there wont be any clutch mechanism. This would be my first big build project so theres going to be mistakes and problems I run into along the way - Im doing as much research as I can so the expenses are kept at a minimum and Ive created a spread sheet with all the purchases I have made thus far. Im planning on running the throttle body before the blower with the relocation kit provided by HMW. I know Im going to have to relocate a few things but I cant get into the process of spending more money until I have the brackets and supercharger bolted on so I get a good idea of how to route certain things. But once I get that part installed Ill start a build thread and show all the f**k ups and process along the way. Ill be using the stock ECU (MS43) and ill go the remote tuning route. Ive been looking into a company called Chaos Calibrations to do the tuning but we'll see how it goes in the future.

Would be cool if you could make a build thread for the install as I think that there will be a few people contemplating adding a s/c to get a bit more out of their car. In particular I am interested in what kind of tuning hardware and/or software you end up using. As has been mentioned, the SC14 is an old school Roots-type blower and they do get hot, so having full control over fuel and ignition is key to keeping your engine safe. Toyota equipped the SC14 with a clutch to disable the blower during cruise and when the engine ECU was not calling for boost. Some folk do away with the clutch, in which case you would want a bypass valve to unload the blower when out of boost. Throttle before blower or after blower etc. How you handle these kind of things is another part of an s/c install that is sure to generate a lot of interest and good advice Cheers...

I bought a set through Speedfactor a few years back for my 335i. Price was similar to what it would be buying direct and using kiwishipping, but with less hassle as they dealt with the shipping and customs sh*t. They're popular for good reason - great quality and lightweight.

Your comparison perfectly illustrates why I cannot fathom the e30 market. While people seem to froth over that e30 (I can appreciate the build but it is far from my taste) and e30s in general, I do not understand how someone could justify spending so much more when tidy e34s languish sub 10K (for a manual 535i or a low km auto 540i) and even sub 5K (for a manual 520i or a very tidy auto 525i). A clean 320i Auto for 8K will be snatched up in a couple hours while a clean auto 525i will struggle to find a home at 4K. I definitely think its a case of E34s being undervalued rather than e30s being overvalued though. E34s are the BMW everyone seems to like but no one seems to want. A 70K price difference is just ridiculous considering the 540i probably drives nicer since it was setup with a V8 from the factory and has proper adjustable suspension rather than air suspension.

Another high dollar E30 Build, different approach - not a fan of air but it does look really nice, probably more universal appeal than the orange one ๐Ÿ˜‰ https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-3316465811.htm Or you could save $72,000 and get this same-same but different one. Automatic V8, loud wheels and Calypso (?) paint as well with 4 headlights ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Yes, produced in much lower numbers, under 4,000 units total, than the M3, with over 17,000, as they were only sold in Portugal and Italy as the seller says due to the tax laws for new cars in those countries. These were a real secret for a while, due to their limited numbers, but gradually became more wider known and as the E30 M3s went into inflation mode these became more popular and the prices have correspondingly gone into orbit. Were made in 2-door and 4-door and personally I would say the 2 door would be the one to own, with the M-Tech 2 kit. Whilst it is 300cc smaller than the M3 engine the S14B20 is only a couple of bhp down due to higher compression ratio, but is a bit further down on torque, but then you have to rev an S14 to get the best out of it anyway (well that's my excuse...) The person who originally imported this car into NZ is a good friend of mine, and a few of my spare and surplus parts have been fitted onto this car, not that it was in need of much! Really is a stunning example in the flesh, and the next owner was also a BMW nut who has kept it in tip top condition. Pricing is well up there, as it should be for this car, hopefully someone who recognises what this is will snap it up (outside my current budget unfortunately or I would be all over it). That rocker cover does need a clean up an re-paint with a new oill filler cap though, as that is such a stand out point in the engine bay with the "M Power" lettering. Would cost a few $$$s but well worth it I would suggest.

so, have been using the car a bit. Up to Manfeild, where it met its sister, an E28 in the same Artic Blue Colour

Hey Team long time no post. Well what can i say, SHE'S ALIVE Finally got the x5 manual swap up and running, its surprisely quick too with the factory 3.91 open diff, was only sitting around 2.3k rpm at 100kmph. Custom x member and shifter rod extended. So just a few more tweaks, the x member needs to be raised 25mm to line up the driveshaft straighter. REst of exhaust fitted but first get the rear mufflers deleted. I also sourced this a while ago while discussing diff options with Kayne Barrie, I saw this on trade me and he said it could work as he had rebuilt it and knew the measurements. a e92 m3 LSD Diff with the flanges changed out to match the x5 ones. I have mounted it up and almost perfect I just need to find some big washers to go in between the front two mounts as you can see picture above, take the drive shaft in to be shorten and it should be home sailing. I did run into some small issues with the car trying to cut out when i was over 50% open throttle at around 4k-5k rpm does any one have any ideas of what this could be? i pressed the dsc button but no change. Also coded out the auto and made it manual so just a bit stumped. Feel free to chime team.

Hey Team been a while since last post, so while in lockdown i got quite a bit done. Managed to change most of the gasket on the motor that leaked oil, intake and few other little things. Motor is back in the car now, i managed to get the wiring sorted to get the car running. flywheel and clutch all in but yet to test. Front half of driveshaft made and perfect fitment. Electric fan from e46 works a treat and cools the engine enough. Got the Pedal box in with new rubber fed line from reservoir and new braided clutch hard line to slave cyclinder. Currently have a rebuilt e92 m3 diff at Kayne Barrie's getting the flanges changed over to suit the x5 drive shafts. So not much left to do once i get the diff back, will most likely need the rear half of the drive shaft shorten as well, move the whole car to my engineers shop. Get custom gearbox x member, length gear selector rod then ill be able to drive it. Braided clutch line x5 diff on the left and 330i lock diff on the right front drive shaft taken out and just the outer cv case left in. custom steel flywheel reusing the auto ring gear e46 M3 centre modified to accept a nissan 250mm puck plate Nissan pressure plate 3000lbs clamping force All most done team.
