As an X mechanic, allbiet from late 70s to late 80s. Brakes while, not that technical in many ways, are of course very, very important! If as stated, you are 'overwhelmed", this is not the job for you to tackle. As a DIY, this is certainly a risk, to yourself and others, if you lack confidence.

Sold for $2770. I'd not have been surprised to see $3k, but at least a modicum of sense prevailed. Even if the auction was extended 40-odd times. "Sorry vehicle is stored off site so unable to confirm if Sunroof" kinda sums up just how much effort and interest Turners have in the cars they sell.

Plenty of E9x M3 owners use them and report no NVH increase. Its on my list, but haven't had first hand experience yet.

Bump off to scrappies next week. Still have doors, few control modules, diffs and all of the rear end. Make an offer and take it away

Sounds like you're approaching it sensibly, with your mentality I'm sure you can find the right car. I was just about to post about suspension but Jared ninja'd me... I'd start with shocks and bumpstops, springs only later if required (this is certainly economical if it's DIY, otherwise perhaps not?). Yes, bad bumpstops are a crazy issue with this chassis, a black mark on BMW. Replace stock ones with the BMWP shorter ones, there are many brands, you shouldn't pay for BMW branded ones. Edit: Heavy steering? No, not a common problem, possibly related to the PS leak?

Nothing quite like an automatic 323i with a not quite right M3 badge to get the heart racing!

When I was 18ish (over half my lifetime ago) I mounted a curb in my e30 and took out the sump on my m20 engine, ever since then I've loved the south African sump guard. This car isn't a SA native so decided to add a guard for extra protection. Hopefully I wont be mounting any more curbs and this will only provide added protection while on pot hole filled / bumpy CHC roads. This one was one I collected many years ago, when offering it up to the car I could see it was pretty bent up.. took it into a mates shop got it on the jig and bent it back into place.. after that the install went pretty smoothly.

Lol yeah you'd have to bank on a different engine, you KNOW its at turners for a reason and its probably to do with the N46. Turners is the dumping ground for cars you cant sell anywhere else. Its also clever, because i believe being sold at auction like it is means its not subject to certain CGA clauses.

New carpets after loom & floor pan tidy up. Fitment wasn't perfect but decent all things considered (easy to cut & trim). The underlay is pretty thick felt; hopefully better than OEM sound insulation (degraded 35 year old foam).
