Confirmed: 135i less reliable than vintage military tanks.

Having a blast down south. I did het something that took a wee bit of paint off the lower bumper around the air intake, and picked up a bit of curb rash on the one rim...will just do one big claim and recon when we get back to Auckland. We have both the 6-er and the Tiguan on the road trip, and the 6-er is by far the more comfortable of the two ? Fuel economy aint too bad either at 10l/100km.

Hi there name's Jason. Have owned BMW's for about 6 months now, started off with a cheap and tidy 94 e34 525i auto am now on my 2nd one which is a 96 e36 328i NZ new Msport coupe. Needs a bit of a tidy up but I'm slowly working on bringing it back up to scratch. Do have some mods planned but nothing set in stone yet. Here's one of the most recent photos, about 15 minutes after I changed out my style 138's for a set of staggered 68's. Cheers.

Forgot to mention . Both my e70 and e60 i have mbi and both through turners. I didnt purchase either cars through them but jist took them in and had apraised and then got the insurance .the e70 has 10k claim limit and the e60 has 4k . 10k for e70 as alot more expensive to repair with airbags etc . For 3 years on the e70 with 10k claim was $1800. The only thing i dont like about mbi is you have to put it in to be serviced which isnt cheap .Im quite fussy and do all my own services at 5 thousand k for oil and filter and all the rest at 10thou k . . I still service mine every 5thou but then at 10thou have to put into shop to be done which annoys me

If it was truly a Man's world; Tank ownership would be so much more accessible than it is!

The e53 is my work wagon and the e70 is just because i can lol. I also have an e46 330i and a e60 540i. I just love them . The 330 and the 540 hardly get driven to be honest . Its hard to go from the x5 to a lower car myself . Hmmm differences . Apart from the obvious of one being a 4.4 and the other a 4.8 ...i do kinda find the e53 not as cramped inside . Im 6ft3 and the e53 seems to have more room . The e70 certainly has a better trans .not quite as smooth but changes alot different to the old gm box e70 not as hard suspension as the e53 and i prefer the e53 steering myself . Not quite as loose . I have mechanical insurance on the e70 but e53 do all the spanner work myself . I guess i have to admit . Im an addict

I think the next thing you need to buy is a phone/camera with auto stabilizer

Yeah it probably was. I wouldn't have bought the car if I didn't like it! You know how it goes, one bad experience makes them seem cursed ?. I'm a military vehicle collector and it's much the same. Expensive and hard to justify hahaha. Source: M41

i'm keen on the handsfree kit, and will check to see what headunit is in the wife's new car. would take the head unit as well if I don't have the professional already.

Pelican are offering FedEx now too but FCP are the cheapest and fastest. Only use Pelican now when FCP doesn't stock something.

Oops yes you are correct, should have read e46 330i front, and e46 328i rear. It was a great improvement when we did it on @BatMansWilly 's e36 coupe. We also used braided lines and high quality fluid.

First question - why do you have both the E53 and E70? And what differences do you notice/appreciate between the two?

Bypassed airbags? Metal work fixed properly for a box of piss. Nice & safe E60. Ummm dunno bout that. Not a hater either, just a realist!

I sent my MVDT claim off today. I spent full time these last two days compling all emails into a chronological order. Two dealerships ended up sending me the service bulletin. I wrote a cover letter and cited that I wanted to claim a full refund plus compensation for payments made on a car I can't drive. I especially cited section 18 of the CGA and fully justified each point blow by blow. I included my blow-by-blow timeline. I sent the service bulletins and the latest diagnosis showing 5 rooted injectors to the director of the dealership as well as a notification that I'd applied to the MVDT. I didn't give him the option of repair now. I tried to get him to fix it properly three times. He can take the evidence and choke on it. This bad boy is the product of a lot of hard work and time. Hopefully it pays off!

Owned that car from new. Loved it to bits and probably should have kept it. Good to see prices on the up. Worth every penny and if I had $30K lying around I would probably reach out and do it again. Haven’t really owned anything since with the same Wow factor.

Today I... Pulled the HVAC control out of one of the 318s and replaced the caps on the board. Easy and works properly now. Drove it around and did an oil change. New headgasket and head appear to work. Shame about the fact it's a 318... Next to tackle on it; Remove a dent. Fix interior, it's all saggy. I think I have a complete tidy leather interior, so may chuck that in Attempt to make it tidy outside Sell it

The ML is basically sh*t, though. Not Mercedes most shining moment! If you actually need to be offroading - rather than driving across muddy fields - you'll be wanting a Land Cruiser, a Pajero, Disco, Range Rover, Patrol. Nothing comes cheap - they all have maintenace risk/headaches. Well apart from the Land Cruiser, which instead has high entry price. Oh, the Suzukis are excellent if you're not needing to carry much.
