Thought i had a small issue with the older clutch pedals but turns out i could of easily re-used my earlier one instead of buying a new one. The new style clutch master cylinders have a clutch switch mounted on the side of them making the stop obsolete. RealOEM isnt very helpful when it comes to this sort of thing. Brake pedal is a different story as it completely different for the facelift DBW setups. Couldn't find a manual RHD brake pedal but the auto pedal is identical to the manual in regards to shaft shape and position, so just needs the pedal reduced. Do it right and its basically factory in regards to fit and distances, it's just has the foot wielded on the opposite side to the manual version. Completed Tidied up transmission and replaced all shifter bushings, clutch components and rear seals. New hanger bearing and centering sleeve. Looks like CV has been done at some point which i was hoping it would have. Correct ratio 2.93 diff. 2500rpm @ 100kph Turned out my SMF flywheel conversion done by the previous owner was an M20 228mm flywheel conversion (****ing cheap ****) but i managed to score an old (but still plenty of life) DMF from an awesome guy named Kayne Barrie. Waiting on my new 240mm Luk clutch kit then should be good to proceed.

Been receiving parts for this over the last couple of weeks, some fitting and some not. Today put new vanos Solenoids in, has made a big improvement to the car. My identical e81 had them done recently which made a noticeable difference. Driving them back to back the e81 feels peppier so I thought I'd order some to swap in and see if it would make a difference. Plus the extensive service history didn't have Solenoids being done so a good box to tick. Old ones had been in there a while, o rings didn't look too flash. Driving the car now, pick up is way better and feels more alive. Very happy with a little over an hours work.

216849 km Has been in with Jon at Auto38. New TRW center drag link (ebay UK) $600 landed incl customs. New Febi idler arm bushing $74.75 Car feels significantly better....shimmy at 80km/h is CURED as is the shimmy under braking. Car feels so much more responsive and the steering feels tight, best it's ever felt under my ownership. I still have a click going on but I can live with that with the shimmy gone. Finally a mechanic who is enthusiastic about their workmanship and knows the car inside out. Jon diagnosed 5mm play in the idler arm and also found the clicking to be coming from the boots on the draglink. A way more precise diagnoses than the previous crowd I took it too.

SOLD SOLD Sad sad sad Reluctantly selling my low miles manual E36 M3 convertible. It's a bit special having done only 32000 miles (51kms - NZ new), in great condition and i'm only the 4th private owner ( plus 4 or 5 dealers). Comes with the wind deflector which fits in the back over the rear seats and works well with the top down. Recently valeted along with a coating of Feynlab Ceramic paint protection - the paintwork looks almost like new ! ( apart from a few chips and the bottom of the front spoiler, which i may get painted). It has a newer Sony CD player in it but i have the original one. The service history is all up to date in the handbook. In my 5 years i've had the air-con re-gassed, a new battery, new tyres, regular servicing and a very minor repair to a cable in the roof.

Couldnt tell you what spec is. I dont like the new design lanugauge, but i recall saying the same about almost every new BMW in the past decade, but they have all grown on me over time. Went to an international autoshow here a month or so ago, the BMW stand was dissapointing, they are all there, but nothing there that jumped off the page as a car id like to own. The Volvo stand tho, now THATs my language! and snow almost all gone now, hence why i brought an E30 Touring here a few weeks ago for the summer ha.

The very early E39 M5 could just scrape into the 20 years old category, however, if this is a later car then it will need to meet the current regulations. You would need to have driver and passenger air-bag as a minimum (not sure if standard on E39), but the main area would be the emissions regulations - I would wonder if an E39 M5 would meet the EU4 exhaust emissions requirements? A quick google has it listed as EU3, but this could change for later models and specific options. MoT check is very different to a compliance check, which itself is very different to a WoF. Cars that would pass a MoT or WoF will not necessarily pass compliance. You can buy a car in NZ that doesn't meet EU4 emissions (which is a lot of the current NZ fleet...) but can't bring one in. Seems odd, but the logic is that anything coming in should be an improvement. Brakes can pass an MoT, but still fail compliance if the discs are below manufacturers min thickness, or pads don't have a recognised standard written on them. When you checked it with NZTA, did you give them a VIN number and the Certifiate of Conformity, or a generic question? Did they give you anything in writing? If it is your own car, which you owned in the UK for 12 months, then you can bring it in as an Immigrant's Vehicle, which means none of the above applies.

needs to be less than about 10years old , or maybe a rare model , coupe etc or 20years old to class as a classic or maybe if you have owned it back in the uk etc ?? there are emission stds , frontal impact stds etc etc . also how much rust underneath ?? go to https://www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicles/vehicle-types/cars-and-passenger-vehicles/ https://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/factsheets/44/

The info I saw definately mentioned 100% can be sent to the rear if / when required. My reference to the M5 was more that you can select which mode you want - RWD, AWD, Rear-bias AWD, etc. I would like to see this feature in the M135i, fingers crossed!

I absolutely recommend Jon for anything e39 (and many other models to be honest). He was able to sort so many little issues with my old M5 when others just didn’t have the experience or want to diagnose. Glad you got rid of the shimmy!

Got the car back from the detailer today and sure looks pretty. Managed to fit me in around some very nice rides including a black on black 2017 M3 ?. Shoutout to Elite Detailing, highly recommended. I've barely had it in my possession since purchase but I have been buying various bits for the car so have one driveshaft coupling already with some new vanos solenoids on the way and a couple of cosmetic pieces. Before I got it detailed I had the steering wheel and drivers seat leather repaired by a fellow bimmersport member who did a wicked job. After the Stage 3 detail car looks a million times better. It's shown up a few minor things like stone chips on the bonnet etc but now the metallic in the paint can actually be seen and it looked great even under the detailer spot lights and critical eye. Said it came up much better than the 120d he had in the shop for a stage 4 correction which was there when I dropped it off. Looks like a different car compared to the nearly matte paint look it was sporting when I bought it. I've been cleaning the interior this evening and over the weekend will finish the passenger side carpet/mats and clean/treat the leather.

Dave.... this was mine. Google and read what this can do and why you should use it. It might help you understand what is required when working on vehicles later than E36 & E39
