Replace both master & slave cylinders with new fluid

Start with a scan and see what turns up first. The fault may be recorded without throwing the check engine light
-
You will need a new or second hand regulator... I would go new. They are expensive as the regulator & motor is sold as a complete unit
-
Location ? Click...New Plymouth Possibly an ignition coil if its not throwing a fault code. I suggest you still get it scanned or checked by someone who can diagnose the fault for you

A private purchase is still covered under the Sales of Goods Act between members of the public, so long as it wasn't sold in an Auction
-
Any history on the car, like receipts etc. I'd be talking to my lawyer. You are covered by the Sales Of goods Act, and less than a 1,000 Km doesn't constitute Merchantable quality (fit for purpose) If you want... give me a call in the morning
-
Yes you do, if it's going to be checked properly , you need the valves out
-
Around the right way ??

Brian has asked me to pass on his apologies to members for not being able to be on the forum as of late. Health issues have lead to a diagnosis of liver cancer which Brian is determined to beat. I'm wishing him all the best with his treatment and a full recovery.

And it's got the better motor. The 4's, especially the N42's are very problematic

It needs to be vacuum hose or it will collapse under vacuum

Its the very small items that will catch you out...a small washer, a small screw, a broken clip, a old "O' ring, a small piece of cloth. a button of your shirt sleeve. Get containers, place and account for every thing you undo and remove and watch out for crap that others may have lost and left around the work area
-
Give me a call tomorrow David
-
Always new with these.... you'll know why when you try to do it... you don't like doing them twice

Clean it and check for white alignment dots BTW: How about getting rid of the "...." nic, and put a name to yourself
-
Just remember this when doing it : "Edit: If you replace the valve assembly...remember anything that ends up inside the plenum chamber when your doing this will damage your engine "
-
The alloy water outlet (No3) is common for corroding. A pressure test, mirror and torch should be enough to determine your problem
-
It will need scanning first and go from there... can do tomorrow

Sounds like the final stage resister... best get it checked... not an easy DIY
