e46 subframe bushing Solid or Powerflex or OEM
M3AN replied to tonylauno1's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
With CSL seats they'd have no concept of NVH from bushings lol! They could use bricks as struts and not feel any difference. I disagree in principle that solid bushings should be used on a road car. Anecdotal evidence ain't gonna sway me. -
Okay bitch. Feel guilty!

Those cars were designed for it Tom and distribute the NVH elsewhere. -
You shouldn't feel guilty about any of these Neal!

Oh gosh no, do not use solid bushings for a street car! And you'll need your subframe reinforced anyway so don't look to bushings to get out of that task. Although I thought the tearing was only an M3 problem? -
Apex Tool Group are the Australasian distributors represented by Digi-Key here in NZ. Apex Au have a Warranty statement (pdf) on their web site. Perhaps you could try one of those leads if you haven't already? I know your pain, I love my Weller.

Got ya!

Can't help with your problem sorry but if it gets replaced surely you'd get it replaced with a NZ unit?

Not many of these around... http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/specialist-cars/competition-cars/auction-912094540.htm

Maybe I misunderstood. I thought you were saying that if the air-con compressor failed it shut down the main water pump (for the engine coolant). That would be more than stupid, especially since I assume the compressor is clutched which would make it not only stupid but also entirely unnecessary. Shutting down an essential component because a non-essential one had failed is not very German. No sarcasm, not emoji required. Please tell me I misunderstood!

Say wut? Doesn't seem very BMW.

Ohhh, nice work bud! Coming along just fine. Must pop out and see you and the E30 again soon!

It's nothing to worry about if it's a quick grind and it only happens once every 3 or 4 months. It happens to everybody from time to time. Now, prolonged (multi-second) grinding is a different story altogether. The key is understanding why it happened. If it was driver failure (poor clutch management) then that's fine. If it can't be explained by driver error then that's a bigger issue.

Might have cost you $15 at a machine shop but at least you'll have two units now. And, as you now understand, VANOS parts are hard to come by in NZ and now you have a near complete second unit to part out to other lost souls!

Not the salient point of my post. But I'm pretty sure you know that.

It's the difference between an elegant job and a purely functional one, that's all. Each to their own.

1991 325 and 1998 328 use the same radiator. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=BF32-EUR-12-1991-E36-BMW-325i&diagId=17_0960 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=BG13-USA-12-1998-E36-BMW-328i&diagId=17_0960

Distilled water is 5 bucks for 10 litres at the supermarket. Don't take the risk.

Ouch. It has a boxer engine too!

The hex is only to hold the shaft whilst you're doing up the nut... weld a tiny nut to the end of the shaft in its place, it doesn't even need to be perfectly straight. Weld it through the hole in the nut (4mm?).

Pro tip: if you're a long term customer in good standing and call them when they have a new subscriber promotion and complain that you're never offered anything nice you'll get a free month (may require a couple of polite but insistent calls). Do that annually and you save ~8% a year. Doesn't work during friend-get-friend promotions because that's considered a benefit to existing customers also. Watch out for the "get free sport/movies for 3 months when you join" promos. Also try asking for, if they're of benefit to you: Free HD Ticket - $10/m Free Sky Watch - $2.66/m You're unlikely to get them all but anything you get adds up in the end. Didn't hear it from me. Edit: more tips... HD ticket is credited if you have multi-room Multi-room can actually be multi-property as long as you don't admit it (but everybody already knows that right?) Sky Watch should be free if you've been a continuous subscriber for (approx) 15+ years

Which is why it saddens me that new drivers now are just taught to mash the middle peddle and rely on ABS... modulation is no longer taught. Driving standards are falling because we're apparently no longer teaching how to drive under all circumstances (if we ever were). My friend's daughter's driving instructor insisted she left the traction control on during every lesson. In a 120 hp car... :-/

^ I forgot what I was told on Sunday, are they E46 rotors Dion?

No, I can't sorry. Something along the lines of 'you're wasting bait on a hooked fish'... But I do know that for almost all large companies the retention team is reactive and under-resourced and the acquisition team is proactive and highly incentivised.
