Welcome, No matter what BMW you are after when you finally decide on one get it checked over by a BMW specialist. The whole range of models have issue's. With the budget figure you gave you may need to consider the maintenance budget you could have also. The E46 has a number of items to look out for cooling system generally higher k's plastic components failing, lower suspension bushes, camshaft and crankshaft sensors , door locks to name a few items their are more but I will leave that for others to add. Good luck in your hunt.

Was advised that Redline 75w 140NS and MT-90 mixed together when using a solid flywheel set up would reduce the so called rattle. Sure someone on here that has done a conversion will chip in and let you know what they used.

Price wise was thinking around $550.00 for a roof cut and $350.00 for a rear guard (ono on those prices) colour is Oriental blue metallic.

Andy, Given any thought to the E90 range and as for the price on things a big variation still in the market. This project so far has not been to bad apart from the purchase price of the two vehicles concerned all other funds have come from the sale of bits from both vehicles.

Hi! you could be out of luck the front indicator lamp unit on the E46 ti are a complete sealed unit, but comes separate from the headlight also the same applies for the headlight lens. At least that is the case with the 2001 e46 ti I have.

Know from experience if you mess with the air bag system with the battery connected and disconnect anything it will throw a warning light and it can be a pain to get it cleared and have it stay cleared.

You are wise to get a pre- purchase carried out on any vehicle you have an interest in. With the K's that e39 has done I would be looking for a comprehensive service record. As the E39 has a lot of plastic bits and these are prone to fail as the k's get higher to name but a few water pump, thermostat, expansion tank, raidiator, suspension arm bushes, final stage heater resistor other problems are moisture in the headlights, broken wires in the rubber duct from body to boot lid/ tail gate to name but a few. How do I know I owned a 530i Sedan for 5 years and these are some of the problems I encountered. On a positive note it was comfortable to sit in handled well and had the power when called on but if driven with care an economical car. Had a look in Carjam and Realoem.com it came up with NZ rego 30 March 2011, Japan Dec 2001, assembled May 2001. The asking price is way to high IMO it is 11 years old done 137,000km's and a few other unkown issue I have no doubt. Hi all have obtained a new bearing for the drive shaft hanger and was adviced to purchase the butylane tape as well. This stuff is as sticky as all hell my question is what is it for?. As the old hanger and the one on the 325 don't have it fitted to them. Thanks for your assistance
