Which Nexens are they? Apparently Porsche are using Nexen tyres now on some new cars, though not sure which ones.

Porana Road is very handy! Takes me 10-15mins to get there from Ponsonby, there's a media blaster, plastic welder, you and powdercoater (plus Supercheap) all within 2 mins of each other! Makes jobs like these a lot easier. Not heard of them. The media blaster I used has a relationship with Arkro (as they're just a block apart) so it was easier to have him drop the manifolds at Arkro rather than me having to be delivery boy. Arkro did a good job and it was very convenient.

Ha! Yeah, once you start pulling things apart it's very tempting to keep going and tidy everything up. Be careful powder coating though, a lot of parts have very tight clearances so might not fit with the extra layers of paint! I have considered a parts cleaner but I don't think I'd get enough use to justify the cost. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I did ask him to mask the injector ports off... Didn't actually check when I picked it up if they did. Hopefully, or as you say, Tony, could be a squeeze getting the injectors back in!!

Saw a couple of very tidy E30s today... A silver M325i on Douglas St while I had my morning coffee and an absolutely immaculate red Tech 1 or 2 (I'm not an E30 person so don't really know the difference but it had a nice kit) 320i... I think... outside my office on Ponsonby Road this afternoon. Never owned an E30 but either of the those cars would look good in my drive!

If the vanos and chain guides have been done than the M spec all the way, otherwise the non-vanos will present the smaller bills in the future.... However, that's just the engine. If they're both on original m-spec suspension, a lot... and I mean A LOT... of money will need to be spent in the nearish future on maintenance. For example, the m-sport shocks aren't cheap and will be nearing the end of their useful life, plus control arms, tie rods, track rod, etc, etc... None of which respond well to being replaced with cheap aftermarket bits. I love E39s and have owned a couple and my sage advice is find out exactly what work has been done and when before you make a decision on either of them... And since it's not a genuine Schnitzer it's not rare and nor is the motorsport so neither's going to accumulate in the foreseeable ever. If you want a rare one, save up for an M5. You won't regret it.

How so? You mean powdercoating everything or crazy colours?!

This is very interesting... http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?2160655-850Ci-with-M70B54-dyno-run Few people around that know more about the E31 than Wolf Ganssauge - better known as Wokke. His V2 chipset for the M70 is stonking but this project is really cool - an M70b54: M73 5.4L block with M70 cylinder heads so he can use Schrick cams, plus a custom exhaust and he's pumping out 386bhp at the crank... 9bhp more than a stock 850csi with the 5.6L S70. This'll be a true autobahn-eater with the 4hp24 but a manual would be better suited to our roads. Something to think about for us M70 owners!

Just back from Arkro Powdercoaters... Let the games begin.

Here's his website for the build... http://www.stingrayv12.com/home.html

Had an engine replacement by the looks of things, Kyu. Presumably started life as a 1.8L and got a 2.2L upgrade in its latter years. This would make an excellent daily if I had any spare cash...

Yep, average age of us 8er owners in NZ is about 137 and we're all mellow as f*ck. It is a great gathering, so many different brands, builds and general awesomeness. I'll be there on Sunday if the 8 is back together.

I was only taking the p*ss, Dave, but since you brought it up... 'Everyday racism' is saying something - such as a negative stereotype like Irish people like to drink so much their cricket team will miss the next two games after a win - and thinking it's not racist and perfectly okay. Just my two politically correct cents. EDIT: Please don't misinterpret this as me calling you a racist... I'm not and I don't believe that you are for a second. It's just an example of everyday racism that people use all the time.
-
Nothing like a bit of everyday racism, eh Dave?!

Calm down gents... Since the car has now sold let's bring this discussion to a close. Xenith, as a new forum user, I suggest you don't call out another member who is sharing information about a potentially risky sale just because you're the seller (I am assuming you were the seller). If that information is correct - which from a dealer PPI, we'd expect some level of accuracy - then it's the decent thing to do... As would be notifying the seller you are now bragging about getting a high sale price from. If anyone is caught sharing false information about a member's sale then that will also be dealt with.
-
You mean finger tight and half a turn, isn't accurate enough?
-
There's a special tax reserved for the 8 series too, I have discovered. Back to the OP, I'm not a fan of the mods but they look properly done and it will be a beast of a car. If it's your thing, get it properly checked by forum sponsors or BM Workshop and try and get the price down - there are definitely cheaper ones out there now.

Martin has a working copy. I'll have a chat and see if we can borrow and come and sort it. What coding are you trying to do?
-
I think there is a fair bit on this forum and online about how poor (and expensive to maintain) that engine is. Ask forum sponsor Glenn (B.M.W. Ltd)... He will tell you all you need to know, and if that doesn't convince you to look for something else he can also do a faultless PPI.
-
Will it not connect or a problem with the coding? I did a bit of NCS Expert coding on my E39 so might be able to help if you're connecting okay but I don't have my own copy and rig.

Thanks Ken but don't worry, Ray has already come to the rescue!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If the wrinkle black is worth 10bhp, Mike, imagine what cleaned and reconditioned injectors will do.... 50? 100? hahaha!! Perfect day to cure the strut bar today, aswell (another 10bhp!).
-
Dodgy aerosol meant the finish on the valve covers is nowhere near as good as the one I got on the strut bar but not the end of the world as the valve covers are 95% covered on the M70 anyway. Did some cleaning - although pleasantly surprised at how clean the intake ports are - fitted locking washer tabs to the banjo bolts and refitted the valve covers with Martin today, manifolds and spruced injectors back next week... Along with a few escaped horses I expect!
-
I've also met SJ in my quest to find a decent welder close to the CBD that's not rubbish or a twit and will be letting him loose on the 8er exhaust in the near future.

Sorted. Thanks to Ray @ HellBM who went above and beyond as per usual!!
