  1. Thanks Dave, still a list as long as my arm of things to do and my pockets just aren't deep enough for all of it at the moment! But high praise as I've heard very good things about your M5 from Martin, and I've seen what you did with your E90 as well! Definitely drop me a line when you're in the neighbourhood.
  2. Any spare, Tom? I reckon the 8 would like a new alcantara haircut!
  3. Nah, I got a good deal on the refurb'd ones and have an offer on my old ones so will come out of it okay. Yes, I fitted the strut bar. Very few options for the E31 under $1K! EDIT: TBH, I don't think a strut bar does much at all re: handling but they do help greatly with reducing interior creaks and groans in older cars!
  4. Martin (BreakMyWindow) helped me swap the DK motors for a spare pair of refurb'd ones I had. We turned a 30-45 minute job into an hour and a half job by both breaking the old, hardened vac hoses into the throttle body. Unfortunately, I was totally unprepared and hadn't purchased any spare hose. Luckily they we managed to stretch what was left (just). Tested last night and wow, what a difference. Way better throttle response and less jerky when throttling on and off. Feels faster - but that might be placebo. Looking forward to a longer drive at the weekend. Pleasantly surprised the new ones didn't need syncing either.

    Cleaned it

You know I like a clean car, Josh! Good work. Nice pics too.

Like this? It would definitely be fun!! I'm quite keen on the Boosted Logic Stage 3+ supercharger. Around $15K so probably cheaper (and far easier) than the S85 conversion and good for around 525bhp! Dreams are free. The eibach springs at the rear of mine are still a fair bit higher than the csi stock springs (see pics above of the csi and mine). This pic shows the difference between the H&R (which are pretty similar to the Eibachs) rears and csi rears. Not risky lowering it if you're careful... Unlikely to bottom out but will have to be very careful at the front when the csi spoiler is on.
  7. The PO did ask for opinions, mate. Can't stand the trolling on people's project logs, showroom pics, etc but if someone asks... "What do you think of these?" Or "what are the best... blah blah blahs?" then they're going to get opinions. If you don't want opinions, don't ask a question. I certainly wouldn't bag someone's E36 with angel eyes unless they asked "do you like my angel eyes?".

Thanks Darren. Still got various maintenance tasks (top end engine recon, brake pressure regulator switches, front suspension, diff mounts) before I can tackle some of the cosmetic stuff (like painting and fitting the csi kit I've acquired, lowering the back another inch or so, repairing the headlining and rustproofing and repainting the sunroof) but she's getting there. Just need a lotto win to speed things up!
  9. Never driven an E60 M5 but know plenty of owners and they all love the car 25% of the time (when they can go balls out on the track or some quiet twisties) and hate it the rest of the time when they're driving uncomfortably and massively uneconomically around town. If it's a weekend weapon they're a bargain, I reckon... For daily use, a massive and expensive PITA. For all round use it's successor and predecessor, F10 and E39 respectively - both of which I have driven - would be a much better bet.
  10. Price (if negotiable) doesn't seem too outrageous to me for a four door M3 with sub 60K kms. Can't be many M3s with kms as low as that and even fewer with four doors. Looks a fantastic car! GLWS.
  11. Thanks Dave. Very happy with how they turned out... Makes the car look 'expensive'! haha
  12. Sorry James, but 'taking them out for WOF time' doesn't mean they're legal. Might as well stop paying your insurance premium as your car isn't insured with the HIDs in. You'll find out the hard way if you have an accident. Especially if it's because you've blinded an oncoming driver at night!
  13. Will do, thanks Glenn.
  14. Ray's M3 wagon project, I imagine. Was it fast?
  15. Taken out of context... this is an interesting quote.
  16. Should have added I've done engine mounts as well. EDIT: Actually, I did just one as one looked fine and the other was f*cked. I picked up a replacement from Andy but neither the replacement nor the original were hydraulic as far as I could tell. Perhaps worth another look!
  17. Thanks Allan, I'll check. I have swapped the diff and didn't notice any issues with the mount (and nor did my mechanic did most of the work!) but I'll take another look. Feels like the clunk is further forward so I'm thinking maybe I didn't tighten the new trans mounts enough and one's slipped but need to get it up on a hoist to be sure.
  18. This one? Belongs to Chris Chapman (not a member here) but doesn't have chrome wheels. The only other LHD black 8er I know of had polished M pars and crashed at Hampton Downs in October... Doubt the owner's got it back together yet.
  19. Ha! I love your car Ken, but would love it more with standard lights!
  20. Interesting... Well, at least it looks like they should have had angel eyes, unlike the E36!
  21. The driver put a long post on Bimmerpost explaining what happened... http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1075458 Either way, he didn't react brilliantly when the back end start to squirm!
  22. Thanks... But not very helpful!
  23. Moving on to the gearbox, it's mostly absolutely fine but does thud hard into reverse from park or drive. It feels like it's just itching to move (and it moves pretty quickly in reverse or drive without any throttle!) but I have done the trans mounts. Is it possible I didn't tighten them properly or is this a common issue with these gearboxes as they get older? Have also replaced fluid and filters less than 3K kms ago. Not a new symptom, has done this since I got it. What other possible causes? I know there are some front suspension bushes/joints that need doing... Could it just be those that are accentuating the thud or something internal in the gearbox? Any ideas or tests I can conduct to figure it out?
  24. I assume you've already chatted to Ray, Tom?!
  25. Since the E38 and E39 got them, presumably some E46s came with angel eyes, didn't they?
