  1. Hey Ken... What would it cost to get these with your shipment? Cheers Jooles
  2. Fit that in your Soarer?
  3. Stumbled across this, for those 7er lovers... http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/11/02/bmws-secret-7-series-model-e32-prototype-with-6-7l-v16-engine/ Might have been posted before but a search revealed nothing so apologies if this is old news.
  4. Tony (Westy) had an M52B28 and manual box for sale... Not sure if he still has them. Might be worth PMing him.
  5. Get rid of your tractor wheel and replace with a sportier 3 spoke wheel (approx 380mm diameter). Leather has been refurbished so is in excellent condition. Stitching has loosened in a couple of spots (as pictured) but doesn't affect the integrity of the wheel. Should fit any E30, E31, E32, E34, E36, E38, E39 that doesn't require and airbag. Taken from an E31 850i - I've swapped for a smaller E30 M3 wheel. All in all a very tidy wheel and a good upgrade from the standard wheels in the cars listed above. $250ono

    I was assuming his M50B28 powered E30...

    Shadow chrome?

Arrow wheels in Auckland did an excellent job of Martin's (breakmywindow) E39 M5 shadowchrome wheels... Don't think it was cheap though.
  8. Bummer. Definitely panel beater first. Bonnet's a bit out of shape but doesn't look bad enough to have damaged the engine but could get expensive if bumper carrier, etc is munted. Doubt it'll be anywhere close to $10K though, so hopefully not a write off.

    Mufflers

Those Coby units don't do much. I kept the factory resonator which looks like this on the E31: And this on my old E39: Both do a seriously good job of reducing cabin noise and drone in particular and the exhaust is still plenty loud enough without cats and decent mufflers. You could try your Coby unit first but then I'd suggest looking at factory options if you want to expel the drone.

Does it just have the coby and magnaflow, no resonator or cats? My V12 sounds good with a couple of resonators instead of the cats, the stock resonator and magnaflow boxes. Every car I've had that has had the resonator removed sounds terrible - too loud and droney.

    E3OV8

Very cool. The boat's okay too.
  12. Yep, reasonable. I would add that the 528i I had and feedback from 530i owners is that they are not particularly efficient (certainly compared to modern cars). My 540i didn't use much more fuel when driving sensibly round town and no more on longer journeys but efficiency can go out the window fast with the V8 if you're having a bit of fun. Also, V8s with servotronic steering (similar to the M5 setup) are significantly better in the handling department than the non-servo, recirculating ball.
  13. Nail. Head. Exactly what we have been trying to do.
  14. I too have owned a 528 and a 540. The 540 was a far more exciting car to drive and, with the servotronic steering, there was little difference in handling quality. Of course cars are more fuel efficient now - but I doubt the OP would be considering an E39 if he could afford a shiny new car. I also highly doubt he can afford an E9x M3 either, so your point is... well, you don't really have one. It's also interesting that you place so much weight in critical reviews of the E39 yet would happily own a V8 M3 - the one M3 in its lineage - that the critics seem to universally agree is sh*t compared to all of its six cyl predecessors.
  15. Hmmnnnn.... Listen to the guy that hasn't owned either a 530i or 540i... or trust the owners of both (of which there are several in this thread) that all say the 540 is better? I know what I'd do (and did). As I said, 528i and 530i owners will always harp on about how much better they are than the V8... Because they haven't got a V8. 540i Motorsport with servotronic steering shares most of the suspension and steering components with the M5... I'd say it's a bargain!
  16. All sorted? If not, I live in Ponsonby and have done the procedure many times on different cars. Happy to help if needed.
  17. Obviously, if you sell them you'll have to abandon your post on the residents' association and neighbourhood watch.
  18. Spotted Scott (Palazzo) in the Falcon when he tried to reverse over me in Grey Lynn Countdown this evening. I tried to jump in the way for the insurance but was too slow.
  19. Hahaa... Actually, no, the boot's so full of parts and detailing products I haven't had a chance to get them out. It's on the list.
  20. That's potentially an excellent buy if it checks out. Manual, non-vanos (so it's a bit hardier and cheaper/easier to maintain than the post '99 engines) and it has the full aero kit... Not quite motorsport, but better than the stock bumper and you can get knock off Msport front and rear bumpers now for next to nothing on fleabay. Quite high kms but the M62 will go a lot more if it's been well looked after. The gear box is probably worth $2-3K on its own.
  21. Time for a proper update: Work done: Replaced MAFs Replaced O2 sensors New plugs Replaced exhaust (Magnaflow cans and tips, decat was done by PO) Solved misfire on 3 cylinders by replacing offending ignition leads And lots of other little jobs, cosmetic, etc Work to do: Remove and refurb valve covers and exhaust manifold Reassemble and replace gaskets, etc Install refurbished throttle bodies Replace coolant and air temp sensors Install Wokke chipset (2 x DME, 1 x EML) with a pre and post dyno run Flush coolant and replace expansion tank Work to be done professionally: Replace Pitman arm Replace belt tensioners and idlers Install LSD Rear brake lines (will probably do the whole lot with ss lines) Replace a/c compressor Drove the car to the Mount with Martin (breakmywindow) the other day and it held up very well. So smooth. Did around 12.5L/100 on the journey which isn't too bad but a little higher than it should be I think. Will be looking at AFR when it's on the dyno but hoping the new coolant and air temp sensors will solve any over fuelling issues. The big repair is the Pitman arm which should solve the loose steering issues - my mechanic has thoroughly checked the rest of the suspension and it looks good (in fact the steering link rod was almost new along with some of the other front axle parts). The big upgrade will be the 3.64 LSD and Wokke chips. Current diff is 3.15 open, so the 3.64 should make a big difference - perfect for the 4 speed auto and the consensus on the Wokke chips is that the gains will be 30bhp+ with much improved throttle response from the EML chip. Pitman arm has arrived... Just waiting on the belt tensioners and pulleys now and good to go. So, that little lot at the mechanic is going to chew up a fair chunk of cash so I expect a few cosmetic jobs (headlining, csi kit, wing mirrors, sun roof rust) might have to wait for a bit. Would love to get some of them done by the 25th anniversary meet in November but the bank/wife might disagree.
  22. Motorsport 540i with servotronic steering (same as the M5 and significantly better than the standard recirculating ball steering). If you get a 530i you'll start writing posts about how it's better than the V8 all the while secretly coveting all of the V8s that power past you in the outside lane and kicking yourself for not getting one first time round. I know this, because I've been there. Plus... the sound. Then buy a V12.
  23. Just ordered one in an effort to communicate with the 8... Or should I say communic8. (there's a sh*t p plate there somewhere).
  24. Would love to! Sadly my budget does not extend to two (and nor does my marriage!!).
