That's pretty good. Not far off my economical 5L V12!! Although I don't daily mine!!
-
Already did! Don't think he was that interested.
-
We've been discussing this in my project thread... Looks a great build and cheap but I really admire the seller's optimism with "minor finishing required"... It has no wiring... Anywhere!! haha
-
I'd hazard a guess at somewhere between 500-550bhp at the crank. Doesn't look the seller has had the engine running yet though.
-
And we know we can live it better the second time around!

The guy who brought his wagon to one of our dyno reckoned he was lucky to get 200kms from a $150 tank, though nearly all city driving.

The amount of Star Wars Lego I've 'bought for Wolf' is obscene

Doubt putting a picture of Mike on your auction will help it sell.

What a great idea... All I'm short is a garage and $23k!!

Wow! Yes, I do!!! Better buy a Lotto ticket!!

Fixed a broken tab on the LHS kidney with plastic putty.... Holding so far:

Well, my 8 compares terribly at the moment because of the wobbly steering column and worn front-left shock but good ones I've driven handle amazingly well for such a big car. Not quite as tight in the twists as my E39 (which had servotronic steering) but still great.
-
You found the perfect car... Excellent! Should be fun, though you'll still never convince me that it's a great-looking car, even when it's outperforming, outlasting and more cost-effective than the 8!
-
I wouldn't want to daily the fuel bills but boy oh boy that's a nice car... So much better looking than the sedan.
-
I'll be around for sure and there are plenty of members who will be keen for a drive... Might even be able to rustle up one or two more 8s! Depending on whose driving A lot of the E31 nuts on the international forums seem to think the 5hp30 mated with the M73 is better than its manual counterpart and faster for most drivers... Jury's out. I'm enjoying mine at the moment but miss the 5 speed and tiptronic but if it came to a swap I'd rather do a manual... Just need to find a box I can afford that will fit.

Sweet! Thanks.

Very similar if not identical. Wrack that brain, Tony! I'll ask Google as well.

Spent a couple of hours on the car on Saturday and... Replaced air temp sensors Replaced intake boots Replaced the RHS ignition leads with new in the proper harness and cleaned up the dis cap and rotor connections - so no more random plug wires hanging around (will do LHS next weekend) Covered everything important and took a wire brush to the manifold covers (they look a lot better but definitely need proper cleaning and repainting. The acoustic cover also looks pretty shite so I either need to refurb or replace at some point) What I found out... The bad When the steering wheel adjuster is set so the wheel is right in there is a LOT of play in the steering column. When it's fully out (where I have it) the rings beneath the wheel lock in place and the play is reduced at the wheel but clearly there's a wider issue at one of the various points from steering box to wheel on the column... Further diagnosis when I can get it on a hoist The old air temp sensors (which are at the back of the intake manifolds on the M70) were really oily which can't be good. The LHS headlight can't be adjusted any lower and still sticks about 4-5mm above the bonnet. Haven't sussed out why yet. The good Idle is even smoother now (leads and air temp sensors have probably contributed) Probably placebo but it feels like there's a wee bit of extra power - the old intake boots were so munted that plenty of hot air would have been going straight in

Jeepers. That seems a little OTT when you can pick (albeit a bit rough) one up in the UK for sub GBP10K. I seem to remember Aussie's got tougher compliance laws on old cars which might explain the price. Still, it's a reminder that these are starting to appreciate... Apart from the really rough standard 850s. Feel pretty lucky with what I picked mine up for. Hear hear. Will be good to see a bunch of 8s at Bimmerfest in November but Alan and I will try and get a few more people into some regular cruises. Would love to see your manual 840i in the flesh... A bit of a rarity!

Don't worry, it's worth $20-30K more than mine!! The only coachwork differences are the sport mirrors and csi front lip and rear diffuser but the front lip does make a helluva difference. It really modernises the front end, and gets rid of that late 80s/early 90s shark-like nose. The Csi suspension is a touch lower but it's exaggerated by the smaller wheels in the pics... Obviously the real differences are under the hood. I haven't driven one yet but I bet it's pretty special but then expect to pay $40K+ for a decent one. It was! Yep, looks exceptional. One of those colours that can change from a bright royal blue in full sun, to a dark marine blue in the shade. Awesome colour and car.

Went for a fun drive up to Puhoi yesterday for lunch in convoy with Alan Ferguson and one (of his 10) 8ers - an immaculate Orient Blue '94 850csi. It has a race exhaust removed from his M8 replica race car and looks and sounds fantastic. It has certainly made me realise how far I've got to go with mine to get it up to scratch!! Awesome driving alongside and in convoy with this machine and we attracted a few interested looks! Also enjoyed some pacey sections but it has highlighted a steering issue that replacing the Pitman arm has not fixed in my car and it's a little bit scary when you hit any bumps at 100kph+. More about that in my project log... In the meantime some pics (phone quality only, sorry). Mine definitely needs more lows compared to the csi - though it is running on stock 17" T-stars (thanks to Andy for spotting they're on backwards, Alan is already rectifying as it came back from the paint shop like that!).
-
Agreed, there are some monstrosities out there. I've got the mirrors (actually some E36 M3 reps and some Engl adapter bases) and the rear diffuser but not the front yet. I'll probably leave the mirrors until I can find/afford the front lip but will fit and paint the diffuser in the next couple of weeks to tidy up the back.

Love the attention to detail as always, Ray!

Because all of those people needing homes in Auckland can buy $1M+ houses so the market will just grow and grow indefinitely.... Hmmnn. This'll throw the cat amongst the pigeons.... Was chatting to my neighbour earlier and apparently the two houses with shorter sections that back onto the site on Leighton may contest the land ownership as their original titles show their section is the same size as ours and our neighbour's - hence why the council allowed the houses to be so big (you can't normally fill 80%+ of your section with house. Could be interesting if they contest the land sale.

I've got some professionally refurb'd ones, Josh. Was planning to then have a crack at cleaning the old ones and sell them on (or keep as spares).
