  1. Cool! When's the s54 going back in?
  2. I'd go the 530i plenty of power for DD duties.
  3. I love the 'no timewasters' part at the end of that novel..
  4. Based on research this is more of an issue with the s54 engines. There is about 4mm of material between the cylinders of the s54 and s62 engines, so there is not much gasket material there either. The cause of this could be several reasons... lean mixture, faulty gasket material etc The rattling sound, under medium throttle in higher gears at lower revs produced a rattling type sound for many of the S54 owners, and I could only find 2 concrete examples of other s62 engines with the same symptoms that turned out to be the result of HG failure between the cylinders. I was lucky enough to find a sound clip of the rattling sound from one of the S62's with HG failure. I've added this as a play list with my sound clip to compare the sound, and it was quite the same. S62 head gasket failure : S54 head gasket failure :
  5. Think I may have found a source of the rattle.. The header exhaust section connecting to the cats is of double-walled construction. The PO had removed the cats and replaced with straight piping. If I knock the exhaust around this area I can hear metal on metal rattling inside the exhaust. Bit of a pain as it means the exhaust needs to be cut, investigated and repaired. I did a lot of research on the rattling and it seemed to point to the early signs of head gasket failure, the type of failure where the gasket gets cracked in between the cylinders. I decided to do a compression test on the engine this morning and can confirm all is well. Results, Cylinder 1-8 in PSI 206 217 217 216 206 206 206 203
  6. The car is already modified, the new owner may want to re-power again with an S motor...maybe install coil over suspension. Be a bit of a pain having to re-cert it again right?
  7. Reckon it's got an issue with the front sunroof drain which caused the fuse box to corrode. From the ad description it doesn't sound too bad... Or is the owner economising on the truth?
  8. If that was the case then the other one would be twisted/broken i'd say. Along with the thrust arms as well.
  9. Yeah i need a hoist to go over any loose heat shields, exhaust clamps etc. Doesn't affect drive ability, just a heinous rattle sound..
  10. Uh oh. A noise has cropped up in the past 1000kms and I've decided to investigate. An interesting rattle that occurs only under high load in higher gears.
  11. V8s is the one to have. Do they take swaps for M5's? Nice recaro style seats!
  12. Know that feeling!
  13. Modified e39 v8 subframe and boom.
  14. Sounds about right. Do you have a picture of it?
  15. e46 M3 with racing goodies and less weight.
  16. It's a real kick in the nuts, but definitely give yourself a pat on the back for giving it your best shot. I'm sure you've learned alot through the whole ordeal which will prove invaluable on future projects.
  17. Ex Yakuza? Looks like it's rolling on cheap crap rims as well.
  18. I had it in my old E39 M5 and loved it. You can dload a 2013 Map (Aus and NZ combined) to get it to work. It's a bit clunky, but the general layout of the Mk4 is streets ahead of the Mk2 layout.
  19. Fuggin bird poo stains on nice dark paint work.
  20. Owner should buy a lotto ticket if he gets 170k for it. Looks like rear shocks are billies and the fronts aren't?
