It was this car as seen in the movie Ronin that got me in to M5's. Spectacular Engine.

How many kms on the originals? I would just go with stock shocks, are they different to non DD e60 v8 cars? Using aftermarket stiffer shocks might upset the DD system? It's like wearing a Hugo Boss tailored suit and getting Warehouse shoes. No body will notice but the end result is a bit cheap feeling.

so what about these new Michelin Pilot Sport 4...
BreakMyWindow replied to Olaf's topic in Wheels & Tyres
Just bought a set of PS4's. Got them for $1420 fitted and balanced. 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 sizes. Coming from Pilot Super Sports these seem to be every bit as good, particularly in the recent Auckland rain. -
Just over 5mm tread depth left. Evenly worn and no puncture repairs. Approximately 3 years old. 245/40/ZR18 $200 Picked up in Auckland.

I suspect the arrangement of the Crank case ventilation system requires that the valve cover is leak free.

Over the years on various e39's i've had : Dunlop dz101- shyte in the wet Falken fk452 - decent Toyo T1r's - shyte in the wet Nitto's - shyte in the wet Michelin Pilot Super Sport - amazing in wet and dry, too soft on track. Getting a set of the new Michelin PS4's fitted tomorrow, will let you know how they go. -
Have 6 wheels and tyres up for grabs. A full set of wheels like in the first pic, 2 of the wheels have wof ok tyres and 2 have camber wear. I have another 2 bottle cap style wheels with wof ok tyres. I need to keep 1 of the wheels as a spare so any 5 are available picked up in Herne Bay for $50. All tyres are 205/50/15 size.

A lot of performance European and American cars sold in Japan are LHD.

For the coin if i was in the market and given it appears to be an enthusiast owner i'd expect a preventive maintenance history vs an as needed maintenance history.

I've not seen the 550i headers but they may be a choking point. A remap in conjunction with well designed headers will probably make a noticeable difference. Then again so would just upgrading to the v10

Had a similar issue in my e36. After about 20 mins of running weird sh*t like you describe started happening. Turned the car off, went to restart, no joy new battery was dead. Recharged the batt and checked the battery terminals after a quick 10 min drive and they were getting less than 12volts, Getting just under 14volts when car is first started however. New (to the car) alternator installed and I get just over 14volts at the terminals even after a long drive.

Awesome car! When you sell though, good luck living in an e39 M5

If it's mechanically above average, then absolutely.

That's awfully healthy. Isn't a good stock b28 140ish kw at the flywheel?

I think it was 20k Went and had a nosey at it a couple of weeks ago at their yard. Paint looks nice, boot doesn't close (broken spring in the latch) Interior has had a quick touch up to hide the wear. Wheels repainted and the bank 2 vanos unit has been replaced. Didn't drive it but assuming it's ok a wee bit of tlc would turn this in to a minter.
