Yep, no one should own or drive one as they will block up the inheritantly flawed secondary air emissions system..
-
All e39 m5's get the secondary air circuit in the heads blocked up with carbon. This triggers a fault code called : 'Minimum flow of secondary air' Google search it and you will see what happens and how to fix it. This does not affect performance so I wouldn't worry. Edit, some light reading : http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e39-m5-e52-z8-discussion/128129-secondary-air-system-carbon-build-up-removal-pictures.html The exhaust valves can get carbon build up which will affect performance but that is rare and i think is created by short drives and lots of idling.

E39 540 MS - Who would deal with this guy...

Knob cheese. -
Beautiful colour in the sun! Well done Glenn and OCD!

Is it the same as most other BMW's ? 32mm spanner and a long flat-head ? :-)
-
No rush, won't be going in to the car until after the new year.

Am after a good running M52B25 from an E36, or possibly E39 but not the TU version for the 2kcup project. Preferably just the block and head.
-
Lots of drivers on our roads are prejudice towards the European marques. This a$$holes driving is an example of why.

Got it running. Intake manifold installation is on par with doing the passenger side valve cover on an e39 M5. Clearance and lots of stuff getting in the way. Did a partial coolant change, about 5 litres and bled the system successfully. Engine runs well at wot for what it is but part throttle cruising at around 2-3000 rpm yeilds some missfires/over rich mixture due to the original b25 dme. Only engine fault codes that come back now are fuel trim limit on both banks. Maybe time to just get a good b25 and sell the engine and gbox, which surprisingly doesn't go in to limp mode any more.

Could be worse, 85km/h in the outside lane. No f**ks given. Had another case of speed up to try block me in to getting in to a lane. This time a vtnz car. Also when a road is congested just ahead of an intersection, people still end up driving right up to the next car resulting in a blocked intersection.

What are your biggest pleasures of owning a BMW?

2000rpm to redline. -
So in another words a slightly bent M2 with demo kms on it can be had for 60 - 70k. Seems like a good deal, but re-sale would be tough with it's repair history.
-
Agree. For that price, I would expect a stack of receipts which include a full suspension overhaul.. Anything made of rubber replaced given the age of the car.
-
Because can't be f**ked :-) But yeah, looks like removing the block drain is the best way to fully flush it out. The rad, waterpump, and thermo are all new so I don't want to disturb those for now. WIll do a proper flush when the engine is running again.
-
One day maybe :-)

Anyone know how to flush out all the old coolant without removing the thermostat or removing the drain bolts on the block? Can i run a garden hose through a certain hose to push out the remaining coolant/gunk? Car is not running at the moment as the inlet manifold is off and the hose going from the back of the head to the heater unit has been removed for replacement. So far I have drained the radiator and a couple of litres of coolant came out after removing that back hose so there is a bit of coolant left in there I think. Cheers.

Injectors are being cleaned and tested this week.

It's about half the size of the stuffed bmw battery the car came with

The knob cheese who did it to me was in a newish vw jetta. Proceeded to sound his horn and flip the bird. He then took a pic of my car while i had my middle finger out the drivers window. Don't get why it's so hard to give people space to get in to a lane. I see this a lot.
-
It appears even if you indicate (in a bmw) to change lanes, people still speed up to block you from moving in to the lane.

Few more pics of our recent efforts. Swapped a box of beers for an m52 dipstick tube, as we needed the oil return tube for the oil separator. Turns out it didn't fit in the M50 sump.. All good though, big thanks to @aja540i for welding the return tube on to the M50 dipstick tube! Cleaned up the ICV and TB. ICV before : TB after : Soldered and insulated 4 broken wires for the windshield washer jets : Fixed the broken fuel tank vent pipe connection to the charcoal canister/Purge tank thingee : New Battery : Gave the inlet manifold a bath to decoke it : Ordered some goodies to sort out the Vacuum leaks :

Early e36 325i with zf manual transmission information
BreakMyWindow replied to BMRBOI's topic in General Discussion
Put the last 7 digits of your vin in to an online bmw parts catalog and you can check which zf box you have. Car is definitely a factory manual? Or could've had the zf box and associated running gear for it installed. -
Silly Iphone... they were from China. @jeffbebe will chime in.
