Don't scrap the engine - at least get the crank and head off it. I'd take it but I really don't need another crank and I'm a bit far away...
-
Yeah John - please don't argue with Steve. He's been doing this for longer than you've been alive, and we (as a forum) would do well to encourage him to stick around. When my 2002 is up and running, I'm going straight to him for a turbo to match it. It may simply be a different definition of $$$ and effort. For instance, $5k to double the output on an M20 could be considered cheap or expensive (I think its cheap), but that is doable if you can fabricate and weld well.

From memory, undo four bolts and remove sprocket.
-
Try sending a PM to user name "Damo".
-
Why do you need to remove it?
-
Keen to understand the process too
-
Yeah more details please, since that looks hawt
-
I need to try before I buy as the 2002 is sensitive to both backspacing and brake clearance, but I'm keen as mustard and you'll get a call from me once they come in (and fingers crossed they don't sell out prior).

I hope he does! I lol'd at this: Only 50% right at the SpeedShow - I didn't see any rear calipers at all... Highlight of the show was actually Simon Longdill's bike engine based V8, and the Juno it was in. An M5 V8 is cool, but making your own V8 that revs to 10,000rpm is cooler. http://www.synergypower.co.nz/

SFA - factory weight slightly under 900kg and Heaths probably around 800-850kg + driver.
-
I kind of agree - you won't be telling the grandkids how awesome it was having $13k. Having a 400hp E30 will make good stories though. Only sell if you can guarantee yourself you won't take on another moneypit project sometime soon. Better the moneypit you know.
-
That's a bit harsh (although true). Wasted spark is good enough for an early Evo (amongst other performance cars) so its probably good enough. Given an M30 doesn't have provision for a camshaft position sensor, it seems like to much of a pain in the arse, not to mention the extra coils required and ensuring the ECU (as Mike says) has enough drivers. Mitsubishi GDi is a good cheap source of wasted spark - 4 cylinder Lancers and 6 cylinder V6. You can use the Mitsi igniter too, so its very, very cheap. Holden also an option for 6 cylinder, but the Skyline boys are onto those.

I always got about 8 litres/100km driving the race car to the track. It came with free deafness.
-
Sounds like you had an awesome time. Re the gearing - Taupo is a bit like that. You'd be a happy boy at Puke (for instance). While your suspension isn't ideal for track, my 2c is that any stiffer will give you issues on tarmac.

That's not an especially neutral go at it. A 318i has mediocre performance too. What Honda has done for the world: - VTEC ---> 100hp/litre is common in a Honda. Let's say it slower 1 0 0 h p / l i t r e. That's like a race car. You need an E36 M3 or newer to manage that in a BMW, and it sure comes at a cost. Criticism of a lack of torque is unfounded too - my Prelude engine had plenty, and its really only the B16A which lacked torque. - Type R ---> All type R integras/civics handle extremely well. Many feature a factory stiffened chassis (as in seam welded). They come with LSDs. Unless you personally can't drive, a decent FWD setup is close enough to RWD from a turn-in and power-down perspective. All they can't do is drift, which last I checked was not the fastest way to drive. They are a fantastic car to be an enthusiast of - awesome new and second hand performance and replacement parts availability and the ability to swap parts across models.

I don't consider that rice because that's never, ever happened. Brakes are the last thing anyone ever seems to spend money on.
-
The point really is that the dividing line between rice and acceptable modding is not well defined. Is a carbon bonnet rice? Is it rice when its on dark coloured car? Is it rice when its used to offset the weight of a heavier engine? etc etc. (edit) By the way, its worth noting that NZHondas as a community frowns on the same rice that Bimmersport does.

I think the head needs to come off to remove the cam as it needs to slide out of the journals?

Its a slightly homax purple blue, especially in the sun. I really miss that car, but did just take the M3 for the first decent drive since I put new Bilsteins in a few weeks ago to replace the slightly shagged original shocks. Its a great car on the open road, and Dual Vanos 3.2 litre > single VTEC 2.2 litre.
-
I sold the gold wheels as they hit the brakes w/out spacers. Hate away - Homax purple Civic - 140kw at the wheels:
-
That's what I had, except in a 200+ kg lighter shell (an EG Civic) and with decent suspension. So mint!
-
Seriously - I've only ever had "is that a real M3" - a pretty genuine question when its a sedan. I suspect most people just ignore it ... because its a sedan.
-
I'm with Grant on this one again. My exposure to munters is low, and no one tries to race me. Mind you, I don't live my life a 1/4 mile at a time either, and racing might spill my latte.
-
Pics or I don't believe you. The race cars always look low enough to me and they're on superlows I believe. The best way to fix the new problem is to become old. I've long since stopped caring how low my car is. The M3's new Bilsteins have raised it by approx 1-2cm (probably back to "new" ride height) but I really don't care. It doesn't scrape driving into the carpark at work anymore, which is kinda nice.

I can vouch for Adam running a legitimate business and standing behind his products - that's certainly been my experience in the past.
