  1. As per title. Forgot to order one with last bunch of overseas goodies. Anyone have an NZ source for these? Also known as CSS 091158010 Edit: to fit E39, obviously...
  2. Can you not get the boot lock actuator out and run power to it? Changed one out a while ago, struggling to remember how I got in there.
  3. An old tractor can be had for a couple of thousand, good rescue option for you True, it'll be very rusty and basic, but needs must...
  4. I love how the "special bolts" (the lady at Baby Factory's words, not mine...) are too short to make it through the E39 parcel shelf. And I love how they have a legal standard based around their use, but they are imperial, not metric, parts...
  5. I know there is some cross-over, but all the otherwise useless ones make me feel a bit 3pedals: it ought to bugger off and die, and stay in the past where it belongs Imperial units are worth 5/8ths of not much
  6. Pulling your latest purchase to bits to find- Genuine BMW water pump. Plastic impeller. Bad. No coolant. Only water. Since at least 2014. Bad. Corrosion setting in between said water pump and block due to lack of antifreeze. Bad. Power steering fluid is brown. Bad. Brake fluid is milky. Bad. The toolkit was in with the spare wheel because otherwise the tired old struts won't hold the boot open. Sigh...
  7. I wish! Was too busy, it has been sitting there sans cooling system and oil for about a week, untouched, now. But it looks nice even when it is in bits. Going to look on the bright side here- when it is going again, it's first trip will be to the dealer for a new steering wheel airbag. Nice to have someone else paying for new bits for a change! Thanks to @hqstu for mentioning my old car was included in the recall- I reasoned since they have the same steering wheel and nearly the same build month then the touring would also be included, and I was right.
  8. And for some reason, it seems like every tool kit you look at buying over here includes half of it's sockets and spanners in Imperial sizing. It makes no sense. All the older British cars have rusted away, and US stuff is rare... so where exactly is the market demand for this gear that just sits there gathering dust?
  9. Placed my order with FCPEuro 8pm on the 5th and it turned up here in rural BOP today at 9am, must be some kind of record. Wasn't scheduled to arrive until the 18th, thanks NZ Customs and NZ Post for pulling finger (and not loosing anything) for once!
  10. The technology to scan the product and manipulate it to make it RHD is more available now, true. Most people would only want to make themselves one, or a couple though, not sell to Joe Public. Feel free to buy yourself a 3D printer and go nuts
  11. Look to be all LHD only but plenty available on Aliexpress. I searched "BMW E39 cup" just now and got 15 hits, all for ~10USD
  12. Enjoy that! When I put new suspension in the front of the Touring, I also put RE003 all round. A much different car afterwards.
  13. There was a partially stripped 750 down here in Tauranga. No doors, make a good Mad Max car
  14. See the recent thread on the "Bridge Racing Master" re: throttle recalibration
  15. That's pretty quick! Audi always had the quickest flagship thanks to Quattro- I remember their old S8 would do 0-100km/h in 3.9s. Now BMW have bitten the bullet with xDrive being applied all over the show, I am picking some sort of sprint/power war restarting among the big German manufacturers.
  16. Yeah I'm thinking of starting a givealittle for it
  17. Don't know if you all spotted the remote hanging from the key, it has an aftermarket immobiliser- there was an LED associated with this system in the hole, the PO's kid poked it and it has gone inter-dimensional, as Olaf speculated. To be honest, the setup is a bit of an ass. Still getting the hang of it's auto rearm function. A new cooling system, bunch of gaskets, oil filler cap, filters (cabin filters have an 05 date stamp!) couple of sensors etc on the way- you all know the drill
  18. What? Me? No idea what any of you are talking about It has a few extra bits of "character"- a free bluetooth OBD2 diagnostic device, forgotten by someone and left plugged into the port. Was very useful in diagnosing the rather alarming missfire it developed on the way home, the cam position sensor was drenched in oil, and also has an intermittent fault (it's buggered). The oil smoke haze from the rocker gasket can be pretty scary also when you pull up to a stop. The blower only blows hot, the A/C has a noisy pulley or unit, and a heater pipe under the intake mani looks so scary the car will remain off the road until it's replacement arrives. Normal for an E39, then Thanks all, it will all take a while- baby v2.0 is due in 3 weeks
  19. Hey Dave if you are still around- thanks for documenting this, I am doing the same job on my Style 32s. Glad to see I bought the same paint stripper that worked for you.
  20. Mint. So what paint and paint stripper is everyone using in their wheel refurbs?
  21. Yes they are E39 fitment, they came on the 520 (why the heck else would anyone buy a 520...) No photo (too lazy) but they have the same kind of thing as Brent's photo has- BMW, 1892961, 2, 8Jx17, IS20 cast into the front. The rear side has HLB, 3.527 and some date stamps cast into it and 17T and T16E stamped into the hollow depressions.
  22. Any competent mechanics in Hamilton (besides the dealer and Kerry at Mosen) anyone can recommend to check a car over? Cheers.
  23. "Most likely legit" is what I have settled on, too. So, to refurbing them- any recommendations on which paintstripper to use?
  24. There's no buynow, and somebody else may decide they really really want it and chuck 10grand on it- so no guarantees! But I will be giving it a shot.
