If I remember correctly, there was a test a while back which tested all the major air filters on the market for filtration and flow etc., and Apexi came away with the win. From memory they aren't oiled either, so they don't muck around with your MAF (or at least they didn't with my old Silvia).

Although I no longer work there, give Classic Cover a ring. We do these on a daily basis cover now, and the 'modifications' aren't the slightest issue.

Who is going to be game enough to roll this dice on a high mileage V10? I imagine the maintenance and fuel costs would have been eye-watering over the life of the car

I work for Classic Cover. As a brief description, we have very recently become able to insure daily driven modern prestige vehicles (that's us - BMWs) under what would have been our classic scheme. Agreed value (within 20% of a reasonable market value), no under 25s, garaged, $5,000 spare parts, nil excess for glass, like-for-like cover etc. If your car isn't garaged, we can now cater to that. Mileage limits are a standard 5,000km, but we have higher limits available. Generally speaking we only insure drivers over 25, but if you're 24 and have a clean history then there is a chance we can insure with an additional excess. Cheers

Ah, I think I remember setting you up with insurance actually. That car list looks familiar. 205 powered by an mi16? While we are car people through and through, we have to remember that insurance companies are run by beancounters at the end of the day, so the economics of a situation tends to rule when it comes to repair versus value of the vehicle. Darin, sorry to hear! E36s never appealed to me, but your one did. Good luck with parting it out and I hope you don't get too many crackheads expressing interest.

From what I've heard the Sulco ones are pretty good, but if you're in it for the long haul you should probably just splash out on a Wayco. http://www.proparts.co.nz/shop.html?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=1262&category_id=14

http://www.fuelly.com/car/bmw/318i/1999/TopSecret/217347 My fuel economy seems to vary markedly. My car is due for a major service though. What would people recommend I check over while I do that? I started off filling it only with 98, but the performance felt identical with 91 and the fuel economy seemed to improve.. strangely.

Check my for sale thread, Cheers

Bump. Plate filler and seats are gone. Please take the door cards and rear seats before I take them to the dump.

One thing that we have to remember about Mercedes' of that generation is that they have such a feeling of solidity and heft. The last one I was in had no rattles or squeaks to speak of. I'm sure there are more than a few that have fallen by the way-side here in NZ, especially with people that seem to love putting heavy chrome wheels on them I like them as a bit of an oddball choice. As E30 M3s are appreciating, so will these once people realise they can't buy their favourite BTCC/DTM homologation special any more (E30 M3, of course). I'd like one with sorted suspension, tight diff and maybe some Compomotive rims as a track-cum-backroad basher.

It was a great weekend. Nice pics. I'll be there again next weekend at the Classic Cover stand, so come over for a chat and a good vantage point to watch the racing. -
Seats are taken by Curryinahurry. Bump.

Hillcrest. Flick me a text when you'd like to pick up, I'm home most evenings. Cheers

Ok, so I've ummed and ahhed about selling these, but it doesn't look as if I'm going to own an E30 in the foreseeable future so I should probably clear the spare room. 1. Windscreen. It has a blue strip along the top, and seems to be free of chips. $90 2. Sedan recaros. One is blue leather, and the other is patchy blue fabric. These are good to replace your standard chairs and to put covers on. Failing that, you can get a retrim kit from the states. $40 3. Coupe blue cloth rear seats. Reasonable condition. Free 4. Sedan door cards. Mixture of blue cloth and blue leather. $40 take them all 5. Euro Plate holder $40 6. Tech 1 (I think) side skirts. Comes with 4 mounting tabs. They will need a repaint naturally, but they don't seem to pop up too often. $200 7. Rear subframe with delrin bushes and aluminium supports. Saves you from having to burn out the old ones and getting new ones pressed in. $200 If my prices are unreasonable, throw me an offer. Cheers Dietmar 0273743684

Where I work we tend to refer people to a guy called Mark Joblin. His expertise tends to be with older, more classic cars or somewhat modified cars, but he does have a wealth of experience so it may be worth giving him a ring or an email. 0275956087 or [email protected]. He's Cambridge based, but he generally does valuations through detailed photos and descriptions. I've got a couple more I can put you in touch with when I get back to work tomorrow.

This is Kerry's old one IIRC. It used to have some nice style 5s on it from memory. I'd love to trade my E46 318i in on it, but I think they money they're asking is a bit strong.
-
I would also recommend getting some figures on insurance before you get your heart set on a car. NZ doesn't need any more uninsured teenagers in modified cars. As for the actual car itself, any E30 is a good move. It's a mechanical apprenticeship in a car.

Mercedes of this era (or perhaps a bit earlier) are so over engineered and solid feeling. Even a 190E tends to feel as if it has been hewn from a solid piece of steel.

Everyone should feel my pain. I'm trying to sell an R33 Turbo (Ultrarandom's old one), and I've had to deal with endless amounts of meataxes. It comes with the territory though. Chances are, if they say they're really keen, they offer money, ask a lot of questions.... it won't amount to anything. Funnily enough selling my last purple E30 was an absolute dream. The guy gave me $4500 before picking up the car, and even wanted to pay the rest until I told him it wasn't a good idea!

Does it still use the standard ECU? Any running issues? Certed? Cheers

As above, could be interested. My 350mm is a little big

I don't think you're going to find any better than this TBH. We've been running a Honda Orthia for a while. They're economical, and have a surprising amount of space. Ours had some lowering springs in it and it handled quite well until the shocks called enough. You could easily find an auto within your budget, but the manuals are much rarer (although much nicer to drive)
