Water could also be coming in under the door due to tatty / non existent plastic between door card and door frame.

Hmm, might also be that immobiliser. I was tempted to have the whole system removed it was annoying! Let us know.

Oh true yes fair enough. It sort of did that to me once, although it turned itself off. Wouldn't start for like 30 mins (this was in the outside lane of the motorway in peak hour ). I replaced the fuel pump relay with a new one and the ECU for one out a manual e30 and it never did it again. Im not sure if it was the relay or the ECU that was the issue, but if you want the old ECU to try you can have it. Battery was also new from Glenn last year so it would be wierd if it was that (although if it is the problem you will be able to take it back under warranty)... trying to think what else it could be. Perhaps a loose connection to one of the starter terminals? Does it turn over at all?

Looks good as always, although your exhaust tip is not for me. Driving it to rhythm?
-
Wow, that was rediculously cheap. Well done
-
Since yours is an earlier E30 it might have the older style ICV that is under the intake manifold and has a water in/out let. Could be filled up with crap or the little thermostat inside could have failed.

Try a new fuel pump relay.
