Got a new noise today, which is curious... not to sure. Its not bad or very scary, its just new At about 110kmh and power on can hear a high pitched whine (its faint, like a distant high pitch drill), if I put the clutch in it goes away. Only seems to do it in 6th, and only ~110kmh (on the autobahn obviously) Bearing in the gearbox? It doesnt seem to be engine speed, but more the wheel/box speed and only when having load on it.

Id start with fixing the UV damage to the lens, bunch of products out there that do it. Cut the yellow off, polish, reprotect - will do wonders. Use realoem and your vin to find the right bulbs, there are a few changes throughout the model years/options. Water temp is looked after by the electronics, it'll tell you if its overheating or if the thermostat isnt working correctly as is closed loop control. Its possible to get watertemp readings out of the OBD2 port for apps like torque etc. Its also possible to get it to display on the dash LCD, but I forget how OBD2 is better.

Trying my luck, anyone got one or seen one at a wrecker?

So was it wheel bearings / axles causing the vibes?? My Christmas project is too do wheelbearings on mine, they're fine but at the ks it's done I'd rather tick em off.. Hopefully not seized onto shafts. See ya Sunday

Actual noisey tappets, that Italian tune doesn't fix, probably means dead cam ledge seals and cooked cam tray/head... Would be a gamble on needing a new engine without pulling the cams out to check. Wouldn't be worth much.

Have a hoon In mine Sunday if ya want, can't remember what size the eibachs are in mine (B1 V2) but will give ya a reference point.

Without a code will be pissing in the wind, grabbing an OBD2/usb cable and ista+ for $30 or a bluetooth thing like bimmergeeks protools will make it much easier and faster.

Did you bleed the coolant system? What code is it throwing?

Was planning on pulling the diff and doing rear end wheel bearings (and parking brake cables) some time over the christmas break

Was lucky, wife driving and semi went straight through a giveway and "merged" into the RH lane of a dual carriage way. Lucky the boy wasnt in the kids seat behind that window, as its exploded into car. No airbags have gone off, and door surround looks OK (minor dent from the stop)... door and window obviously toast. Rear panel is pretty wrecked though...

30 seconds with a 13mm socket. Anyone have record of what the P/N is thats stamped on the BMWP muffler? It might be a BMWP unit, sounds tougher than mine and Y pipe on it looks factory.

It'll be a good start to a project car, it appears to be straight and honest just needs some love. Elbow grease, a DA, and swinging of a spanner will solve a lot of it pretty simply. With things like the tyres/shocks they just become good excuses to upgrade! Reality is half the 130s out there selling for over 10k will have the same faults, just owners that are none the wiser. Should do an experiment, run around all the 130s in dealers yards and look for oil leaks and green coolant. $50 its more than half of em
