  1. Explains why they had to edge out the R32s numbers by introducing the high output N52 with the 130, or it'd look even worse on paper. R32s sound immense, and the Golf IV seats are epic (V's are meh) but dynamically the 130 is WAY more entertaining... dunno if its 20k more entertaining though. Would take a special kind of person to throw 90+k at an optioned out hatchback.
  2. Was just looking up some prices of old cars for giggles, and thought Id look up the price of a 130i in NZ in 2006. Base model 130i automatic - $79900 ( I read somewhere the cupholders were an 800 british pound option) Base model 5 door Golf R32 DSG - $58,790, all the options would take it to ~$68000... Wonder why they didnt sell many...

I went and looked up how much a GTiR, (probably the most comparable car of the 90s?) was new NZ in 1993 - $45,000 or nearly $77,000 in today money.
  4. Ooo thats nice! The black LCI one was listed for around 13 originally, 10k is pretty good buying I rection.
  5. Yeah, lady who owns it is on the 130i faceballs group, its definitely been loved and looked after. Nice car.

Way more trick than the poor mans golf GTI, and much faster (and will be rarer). The i30N is cool because Hyundai made a fun car instead of its usual midrange whiteware on wheels, but compared to other cars in the class its pretty generic (and a 130 is faster! ? ) It really is a throw back to the old Toyota days of making oddball entertaining cars, like Starlet GT and SC MR2s etc. I hope it does spur manufacturers to stop making shitty generic compact SUVs, bring back the days of GTiRs and Silvias

Lot of money for a little car, its cool to see Toyota realising theyve been boring as snot for the last 25 years are fixing it... Saw a rumour that this engine will be in the new MR2 as well, pretty strange days when 3 cylinders are cool

These things look like they'll be a hoot
  11. E87s tail light seals leak, and fill up the boot space that a few computers sit it, most common is the PDC. Which ends up sitting in a few inches of water, in its own private pool. I dont thing E9x's suffer from the same thing, but the results look the same - christmas tree of seemingly unrelated error codes.
  12. Id guess more electrical faulty, as above... if it was a 130 id say something like the PDC swimming in water will do that.
  13. Bizarre, its a second PCV valve?
  14. Style 193s in 8 and 8.5" just too see what they sit like, fitments OK... dunno though. Its sitting a bit high due to jacking and not settling. (They need refurbing and the tyres are totally dead)
  15. You forgot the part about it being an NZ New manual I do not need 2 130s. I do not need 2 130s. I do not need 2 130s....
  16. Its damn cool, and beautiful E30... but yeh that price is silly considering its not "genuine".

    Snow/Foam Cannons

I have a cheapy aliexpress $30 one, works great. The same thing gets rebranded by heaps of companys. They put their logo on the bottle and slap a $70 surcharge on it
  18. NZ new and cheap - https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/2749053431?bof=7YOp5LMT No xenons which is odd for an NZ new one.
  19. Stage 4 V bars?

    Back in the day

I think id rather try fly in the range rover rather than a homebuilt heli
  21. I have a set of these sitting in my garage, need a clean up and respray too.. They were going to go in the 330s as the style 193s on that are absolutely poked... might be a good lock down job to see how they sit on the 130 though.

    N52N engine

The very early N52 engines had an issue with a cam ledge seal, which chewed up the cam carrier, and required a replacement head, many got fixed under warranty. Not really "rings and oiling" thing, it shows as goofy vanos behaviour due to the high oil flow and clever pump design that supplys oil based on load. Waterpumps do fail, they fail between 20,000 and 250,000km Its just one of those things, replacing them at xx km isnt really a thing, you might be replacing at 250,000km "rated" waterpump with a 20,000km one. Using genuine coolant is key to keeping them alive and happy, the pump is a brushless motor, the rotor is cooled/lubed/suspended in the coolant. Biggest difference between all the N52s is blacktop/silver tops. Blacktops are later engines, have a plastic rocker cover with built in CCV, silver tops are earlier and have magnesium rocker cover and external CCV. The magnesium ones corrode, the plastic ones crack . There is an old wives tail about silver tops having more power, they dont, the standards changed on BHP measurement and resulted in different numbers for the same thing. They all dont like idling around, and tappet noise is common with engines stuck to auto boxes that idle around in traffic. Lifters collapse and require bleeding - AKA as an italian tune up. All will develop oil leaks. Rocker covers and sumps are common, they just all do it. All in all, really reliable and clever engines.
