  1. If you plan on getting someone else to do it, just ring HellBM. They should be able to give you a drive in drive out price.
  2. I can definitely agree about the M43. After doing over 30,000kms since I bought it, with only oil changes, the waterpump is leaking. At 250,000kms. I'd say thats well overdue, but apart from that it runs smoothly and almost like new. I'd happily say it's one of the most reliable engines BMW ever made, and easily the most reliable car I have owned. Beats the E30 M40s and M20s hands down just by not having a potentially troublesome cambelt, and I haven't really heard of anyone having issues with the M43s chain.
  3. Finished welding up the (previously rusty) sills on the white E30, and removed the rusty door, gutted it, transferred internals, and installed the new blue door. Only carpet to go really and she should be WoF ready. Except... now it won't start! Fuel pump primes, and after sitting long enough hints that it wants to start but won't run. I'm guessing spark, but will go hunting properly another day. To be honest it's probably due a new coil, leads, dizzy cap, rotor and plugs.
  4. Looks fun, but must be scary at night with such inadequate lighting!
  5. Floor welded, seam sealed, painted and sound deadening foam back in. AC/Radio panel re-assembled. Sill on one side welded, painted, seam sealed ready for topcoat. Other side ready for welding tomorrow. It's starting to look like a car again and I'm feeling good about getting it on the road, and comfortable knowing exactly how each bit of rust has been treated (lots of new steel instead of bog/seam sealer etc)
  6. Both front guards back on, dash back in. Starting to look like a car again. Just two patches to weld in the floor, and repair all four jacking points on the sills, and find a right rear door then we'll be on the road again!
  7. Check here. Particularly the note that they will not prosecute from a *555 call, or an online report, but can investigate if a formal complaint is lodged in person. http://www.police.govt.nz/advice/driving-and-road-safety/report-bad-driver
  8. You can submit a complaint, and always better to do so in person, which holds far more weight than a *555 call. *555 is for in the moment, in the hopes that nearby Police can catch up to them while they are still offending, whereas after the fact a police complaint is more appropriate.
  9. Re-installed the parcel tray and top half of the rear seat in the white E30. Feels like progress! Still a fair bit of welding to do on the inner arch and the sills, but getting there slowly. Can't wait to get it on the road in time for summer hopefully!
  10. Buy mine and convert to manual? Would be economical as, perfect for a student!
  11. An E30 doesn't have an M44. Either an M10 or M40 depending on prefacelift or facelift. Both single cam unlike the M44. Haven't heard of many people doing much to 318is. The M10s are sometimes turbo'd and the M40s have a chip available for the ecu (the race series uses it).
  12. I thought I saw at least two as well. Good to know I wasn't seeing things!
  13. The solid clunk when you shut the door. The relative quiet on the open road.
  14. I enjoyed it and the season preview looks good.
  15. Yes but a sectional doesn't tilt out in front and hit parked cars, and also doesn't tilt across inside the shed as much either.
  16. http://www.ngkspark.co.nz/spark-plugs-part-finder/passenger-and-commercial?PageMode=Results&Make=BMW&Model=318ti+E36&Year=&Year=04%2F96+-+05%2F011.9LM44+B19
  17. I'd imagine shipping would be slow and expensive now? SH1 is closed but there is an inland route, or westcoast available. Will take longer, but definitely still do-able. Or hold fire as they are considering putting in a lyttelton to wellington ferry.
  18. I was daily driving it so yeah I did a lot. Even used it driving for domino's for a while.
  19. So glad little old NZ is so so far from 'murica
  20. I find the opposite. My E30 has incredibly light steering, even compared to my E36. A smaller wheel was never a problem (had a 350mm on my racecar).

    WTB: E30

I have one for sale, but it's not delphin grey and has no sunroof. Weinrot 1990 316i Auto Sedan. There is a thread in the for sale section, and you can PM me if interested. If not what you're after, no worries.
  22. Spotted: 37+ E30s in a field in Taupo. Was an awesome sight to see at the inaugural E30 Mega Meet. May the next one be even better!!!
  23. Yup that's Sams, and it is just as immaculate in the flesh. Almost the perfect 328i.
  24. And then immediately sell the car... preventative maintenance
  25. Sounds good to me. I was toying with the idea of a smaller heater box using PC cooling components but not sure if it'll have the airflow needed. Also no reason not to hardwire it in if it's frowned upon as a plug-in
