  1. IMO just use a good quality synthetic oil with a decent, short change interval.
  2. 750 would look good in silver with the clear indicators from the 728
  3. Can you rock the cam back and forth whilst pulling forward on the piston? I used that technique when i did the vanos on my M3 as the varnish buildup (and the fact the solenoids were sticking) meant my vanos was getting stuck.

    Estoril e36 328i Coupe

My 323i had issues with revs hanging between gear changes. Apparently common with manual conversions using auto ecu. i just learnt to drive around it. Otherwise it ran fine on the auto ecu, with the tcu removed. Looks much better in manual, and i know the feeling of that first drive. So good. Well done.

    Quick rant thread.

So this is scary. just tried to insure my new Suzuki Swift Sport, all was going well until it came time to list the modifications. So, to be clear the mods lists are adjustable suspension, exhaust, pod filter and wheels. Nothing too serious. That all went well, other than the stupid woman not knowing what a modified intake was, but then suddenly im slapped with a $2000 excess because my car is "excessively modified". When questioned they claim its system imposed and nothing they can do about it. When i questioned why out of all my cars insured with them i have never had a special excess, she didnt want to hear about it. I pushed further and demanded to speak to her supervisor because she was just arguing with me. She refused, telling me that he would say the same thing. After much argument i finally get put through to a supervisor, who indeed does proceed to tell me the same thing (obviously in the 5 minutes on hold she brought him up to date), but when i questioned him about why i have never had this excess before, he decided to do some further digging. As it turns out, the reason i didnt have a special excess on my previous cars? because they never noted all the modifications at all. My golf, which had a modified exhaust, adjustable suspension, carbon front and rear, and tints was listed as just an exhaust and lowering. My turbo integra type r, which i advised of each and every part was listed as alloy wheels and exhaust (not even turbo). Basically, if i had stacked any of them, or had them stolen they would have had grounds to void my claim on the basis i never declared the modifications. Essentially what it came down to, is apparently 4 modifications is enough to increase the performance of a suzuki swift to the point where it is racekar and high risk and all my previous cars have not had their modifications correctly declared. My partner is now arranging to speak with a broker and i will be taking ALL my insurance (both cars and contents) away from STATE INSURANCE and having them correctly insured elsewhere as i cannot trust State to have competently insured me. This is just a warning to make damn sure you're insured correctly.
  6. also seems to be fairly low spec with only basic options. The fact its diesel is about the only thing going for it IMO.
  7. the ABS/DSC units are also fairly common to fail on the E39 and E38, so wouldnt put it past it to be that too. I never did get an answer to my low offer, i suspect its a no.
  8. Apparently a failing battery can also cause issues too.
  9. from a quick googlefoo theres some mention of the ignition contacts in the switch that can cause all sorts of electrical issues like this http://www.meeknet.co.uk/e38/BMW_E38_Electrical_Gremlins.htm Otherwise it could be a fuse or dead control unit.
  10. So this is what a tidy one looks like. Good golly i want it. https://tmls.eu/cars/bmw-740i-sport-e38/
  11. they replied the other day saying the price will drop if it doesnt sell. dont know what to and didnt seem open to any negotiation in the mean time. Will keep an eye on it. I would pay 3K. I REALLY want to restore it.
  12. yeah, it did come with PDC but all the sensors are awol.
  13. lol, burnt out tyres, 40L/100km and overheating.... i know what they've been upto
  14. That was for sale twice down here, and i know the previous owner listed it with SMG issues. Hopefully its been fixed correctly. Looks nice other than the headlights and wood trim.
  15. i eat with my eyes, good photos temp me into buying things i dont need.
  16. Youre not wrong at all, LHD is a very niche market here as for most people its a real pain in the arse to deal with. You can manage to live with it in a Mustang or Vette (because of what youre driving), but to have to deal with it for a non-M3 E30? Bit of a stretch really. To be real i agree with what a couple of others said. Update and refresh the suspension, and drive the sh*t out of it. I wouldnt spend much on the car, you will never see it back in something like this, might as well set fire to dollars.
  17. Sorry, no sympathy from me here. No insurance? What an idiot. Dont see me asking for donations to replace the skyline that was stolen from me 6 years ago when i was stupid enough to think insurance wasnt needed. I took out a personal loan to buy another car (as it was my only car) and moved on.
  18. So basically, sell and buy an original RHD mtech?
  19. could have at least put some decent photos in the listing...
  20. The best factory E36 options IMO is the factory half leather sport seats. Had them in my first 36.
  21. Half Leather/Alcantara, wait, not an option? Should be
  22. +1, even washing with a car wash solution can remove the coating. Meant to be washed with just water, or their own special wash solution. We use dura-seal at work, i dont rate it personally. If you want another coating put on, http://www.ocdetailing.co.nz/ are the guys to go to for C.Quartz.
  23. So its got the obvious DSC light on, also check tail lights, check brake lights, check washer fluid, check coolant level. On top of that, radio/monitor doesnt work. heated seats dont work. none of the little green lights on the climate control work although the buttons change functions, PDC sensors missing, and sunroof not working. May need tyres (can see in pics one rear is the spare, the actual tyre makes a "flapping" noise when driving), the headlining is sagging in the rear, and no service history. Its a steal.
  24. Bloody derpcedes-benz plate on that imola one too. guh.
  25. i like it a lot, i hate chrome on modern cars. Shadowline is where its at. Ive replied saying i wouldnt pay anywhere near their asking price. Will see what happens. If by some magic they dropped it by a couple of grand, we may be getting somewhere.
