  1. new wheels look great, and better imo without centre caps.
  2. the e36 lifting thinggy that i got from Pelican in the states was solid steel, build like a tank and weighed quite a bit. never folded in the few times i used it. I sold it to someone on here and im sure itll still be going strong (i hope!) IIRC the E36 was the only one to use the in sill lifting holes? i seem to recall my E39 and E46 using under sill pads.
  3. oh damn, didnt even notice it was damaged. Looked like a well loved example. what a shame!

    His and hers

Gosh, goes to show just how big the new cars are compared to some of the older ones. Its towering over the CSL! Great pair though, good choice.

So Ron's point is moot? Im not arguing that there should be one governing body to control the issue of plates, but once you own your plate you should be able to pay whoever you want to make your plates, in whatever style meets the criteria set by the governing body.

If you get your normal govt issued ABC123 plate changed to a euro version of the ABC123 plate (for $400 or so dollars), do you need to surrender the normal style plates?
  9. ugh, so much orange gasket poo. Hate how some people just cant do a job properly. Good work on the fix. Valve covers are looking good too, keen to see what the silver looks like in the engine bay.
  10. +1 this. my spelling is terrible (and gets worse the later it is at night), so most of my posts feature the "edited by" line. Always bothers me. Most forums im on default to having a 5 minute or so leeway to edit without that line being added, others have a checkbox to remove the line.

Just because they can, doesnt make it right.

yes but you can only get it made in the same style, otherwise its a significant cost just to change style. There is no good reason in the world it should cost $400 to change from a standard govt issue plate to a govt issue euro plate (even more insulting is the small fee to get a euro plate remade... obviously the cost to process and make the plates is less than $30, so why the extra $370?) And no, no one will come along and offer "green and yellow" plates, because its illegal. Even if someone came along and made exact copies of the legit plates ltd plates, at a lower cost, itd still be illegal... because the law states they have to be made by... plate ltd. It baffles me how theyve gotten away with this crap for so long.

This will never stop criminals making fake plates for dodgy activity... theyll just make what they want and chuck them on before they do what theyre doing anyway, not drive around at the speed limit obeying all the laws in their family car, day after day, like most people with fake plates do. The whole criminal thing is just an excuse to target them. The germanplates are reflective, but yes the font is slightly different (has anyone had a speed camera ticket with their germanplates on?) and the ferns are just an anti-counterfeit measure anyway. plates ltd has a monopoly, and its criminal. its anticompetitive and not in the best interests of the public. Yes, you should still have to apply to Plates ltd to get a personalised plate (ie: not a euro govt issue plate, but an actual change of whats on the plate) but once you own the rights to the plate (govt issue or custom) you should be able to get it remade by whoever you want as long as it meets certain criteria (reflective, font, size etc).
  14. holy sh*t, i didnt even notice it was converted to a coupe!
  15. I wonder if the difference is the compact? I know for sure it was a 4cyl box and linkages used in my 323i coupe, with the linkages cut and shut (and the shifter position was crap). Had to replace the linkages with proper 6cyl ones to get the position sorted. This is where my shifter sat straight after the conversion, in neutral. Would hit the surround in 2nd and 4th.
  16. I take it this is the LHD one you are talking about? http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-835013543.htm The US Spec purple one doesnt look to be listed ATM. IMO a proper RHD 3.0 should net 10-15K depending on KM and condition, even then it was hard for me to sell mine in that price range (205KM, NZ new, good condition). An Evo would be 12-18K, with the exception of the SMG1 car which has a very small market.
  17. Not bad looking wheels, but prefer the more "period correct" weaves, personally. Look like a good fit though, i wonder what they're off.
  18. Can confirm both the shift rod and selector arm are different length between 4 and 6 cylinder. Best go with 6 cyl parts instead of cutting and shutting (like i had done by a "reputable" workshop). All other shifter parts the same.
