Picked up a new reverse light switch so the M3 can pass its warrant next month. Woo
-
i always get a ton of watchers on my M3, but its still yet to find that one person with money...
-
As mentioned, first step is to degrease the sh*t out of it, there is so much oil residue there its almost impossible to tell which way its been travelling.
-
In the second to last pic, i think the black connector on the RHS by the bolt is the exhaust cam sensor, and from that pic it looks like a lot of oil residue around it? hard to tell, shame you didnt have a pic of that part of the head with the fan and shroud out. E: oh, and you should totally go back to the seller and rip them a new one for selling such a dodgy car to you
-
exhaust cam position sensor o-ring? Seems to be common on M54s
-
That other one on TM doesnt look anywhere near as tidy as this one (and IIRC has a non-M5 front bumper on it)

Calling all knowledgable E36 fans, drivetrain question
KwS replied to JJohnsen88's topic in General Discussion
Vin decoder confirms its a jap import auto, and although it has sport seats and suspension its not a full motorsport model. -

If an M3 with a 325 engine in it isnt allowed to be called an M3...... Decoding your vin will say whether it had the full motorsport package or not. Anthracite headliner is a giveaway iirc (although if its been relined due to sagging, who knows). -
I got a CTEK MXS5.0
-
purchased a decent CTEK battery charger so i can finally stop nuking batteries by running diagnostics without the car on charge.
-
cut a notch in the head and use a screw driver.
-
because they wanted a bigger and better engine in the M5? Who knows, but its well known that rack and pinion is far superior to recirculating ball. How much of the front suspension and steering components are shared between an M5 and 540?
-
Check out the guy in the twitter comments wanking on about how much the headgasket will cost to do when it "inevitably fails".... O_o
-
Generally there appears to be less to go wrong on the 530 as well. The 540s do have some pretty serious weak points, like chain guides, breather system, torque converter but other than that they are both strong engines. The general consensus is if you want to go around corners, get the 530 as it has a rack and pinion steering setup vs old steering box of the 540, whilst if you just want power and a cruiser, get the 540.

Yeah thats not really "coding" though. "coding" implies it uses a chip to identify it self when really all its doing is using voltage sensing. If a phone needed a certain output from an Apple charger in order to charge, it wouldnt charge over USB on a normal computer, now would it? The only time i have seen an Apple device say "charging not supported" is newer devices on older chargers which used the "firewire charge" pins on the Apple 30pin connectors (or if the phone has been liquid damaged or has a damaged port).
-
Never heard of coded chargers, and certainly my Apple, Samsung and LG chargers charge everything at normal rates (except my ipads, they stick to the apple chargers due charger rating). The only difference i have encountered is the output rating, which obviously lower the rating the slower the charge (and most ipads wont even power on or charge using a low rated charger if the battery is completely flat).

Beisan can suck a fat one as far as im concerned, their after sales support is pretty lackluster. The product is good as long as nothing goes wrong and the instructions are correct. Where did you order the other seals from, might be handy in the future Its a shame its been off the road for so long, great cars to drive.

Correct, its an individual Mora. Rare and beautiful. http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/ep84550.pdf Also, its an import, not NZ New.

Skirts could be Kamei
-
The Zender skirts dont appear to have the horizontal slats
-
lovely colour, and nice wheels too. would be a good buy if it stays cheap.

Looks like a good candidate for a reshell (presuming the engine didnt take any impact)
