the car club entitles a modest discount at any BMW dealer. At the time Jeff Gray was very supportive of the club, which i feel we did not take full advantage of/Also at the time the mini club was quite active, and we could have got more involved with them.We held a few agms at the dealer and a couple of model launches as well as a tour of the dealership incl the workshop and facilities. The BMW car club is a valuable and supported group of BMW itself.

understood just making sure!

e39 wheels will require a hubcentric ring for an e60,e34 wheels will be correct but prolly not the diameter you want
-
i was a member of the club here, and found that as you say the relationship was complementary.A few of us here did belong to both groups. Communication at that time was via an email group, the club magazine.Things were left to a small group of people and when a couple of them left it fell apart

for me there is nothing wrong with what they are actually trying to do,its the fact that those things are not durable..I guess its actually about cost and planned obsolesence
-
not all about just gizmos and gadgets Allan. Some of it is trying to make cars more efficent..I take your point though Listen to any car ad now and its all about the bluetooth, connectivity, and how many usb ports its got..Almost nothing to do with the quality or dynamics or even active or passive safety.

at the risk of making myself unpopuar some of the things i hear about more modern BMW scare me silly. I had my E34 for a long time.It was a 12 yr old car and 1bout 150 k when i bought it.In that time it failed to start ONCE.I gave up in disgust ,when i returned later it started and i drove home.MUch much later i suffered a blown head gasket,Not uncommon on the M30 with a long skinny ally head on an iron block.Apart from that all i ever did was put in petrol and feed it tyres and service it as per the service indicator lights.I sometimes had to top up the oil between services. opposite my work is a aquantance with a "garage: and he is also a auto electrician with some experience and an auto logic ? "franchise".He has a constat stream of BMWs and some of the stories are sobering. One was a relatively new 3 series with an ebox fullof water.resulting in no start issues..Many recoding and new(some used) modules later it runs.To be fair i have never seen an e60 there...But i am truly afraid of "new" BMWs

well maybe my chipped manual 120d has misled me.It was not a rocketship but it was far from pedestrian

the 2.0 diesel has 350 nm of torque and the 3.0 petrol has 300 nm torque. The 2.0 diesel is far from a constipated turd,it would be very comparable to the 3.0 petrol in all normal road going situations . The petrol engine will be quieter and smoother and more horsepower and a wider rev range. But as a long range commuter the 2.0 diesel will be very good. You will prolly be in the low 6l 100 ks,if not for the hilli would say in the 5s
-
x1 will be on the small side .The 2.0d has suprising grunt.
-
unless you are strong willed i wouldnt drive it......I am not sure where the "ebox" is for these but make sure someone looks in there for signs of water
-
this is true. The 120 d did about 6.5 l 100 k round town.A trip would just about always yeild 5.5.And it hardly ever varied from that.Stop start traffic seemed to make hardly any difference,And there always(except when you have to lift for a bit)torque.Very steep sharp turns would require first gear and a bit of clutch slip,otherwise.......nothingYou have to learn to lift of early and get the power on early

Wellington organized road trip over the Gentle Annie.

if you have ANY desire to sell the 535 give me a yell.Apart from an e39 M5 i dont think anything else will do the trick! How many ks has she done. -
large petrol engine performance for smaller economy. The torque of a x20d is impressive and x30d would be more so....BUT i am quite sure that a diesel is only adviseable if you do longer runs.I would not buy a diesel for an around town car.DPF issues seem more common in round town diesels. Re the insurance it wont be an issue repairing the car,esp if you can use second hand parts. Is a nice right guard of a crashed donor car .Bumper from a car with rear damage.New parts will need to be painted anyway.
-
my e34 had fog light indicators lamps for front and rear as well.it also had two rear fogs
-
but they could do this after seeing your car stopped at a traffic light.
-
the bracing also needs to extend into the foundation, which is where old school piling can be lacking You can clad in the cheapest construction ply and then clad over that
-
the main problem with piled foundations is the bracing required. In wellington for example almost every house with piles will have a continuous concrete foundation wall to the whole perimeter with piles inside. In other parts of the country you may have concrete foundation walls to only the corners or the whole thing is piled. The modern system have braced piles and anchor piles to provide "bracing lines" on about a 5 m grid both ways .You could have a concrete slab built up to the level of the existing floor, where the walls would be built, the resulting void filled with hardfill, then a concrete slab poured on top. That could be a very good "anchor" for the existing building to brace back to.

it may have asbestos fibres in it but as long as it is not disturbed it is fine.It is (asbestos) fibre reinforced cement sheet,it is not made of solid asbestos.

if thats all thats wrong thats very good for a 1989 car!Lots of e30 exoerience here unfortunately i am not one of those
-
my 535is had a metric wheel and spare and i am pretty sure it was a 4xx.so some e34s may have metric rims and tyres still
