  1. get an older one then....and budget for some money to get it to a point you are happy with....The older ones can do huge kms between big spends
  2. for that kinda money you could get a steelie made to some common size so that the"spare" was a cheap tyre that conformed to the size(diameter) requirrment...like a -3 or 4 http://www.elitewheelcompany.co.nz/contact.htm
  3. i would go fo a space save spare over a pando.A full size spare would be the ultimate though.
  4. and in this case a buyer of an e28 535 is most lilely looking for an original car
  5. thats true of any garage door except a roller. They all go up and over a distance at least equal to their height. At least one half of the garage ceiling will be covered by the door when it is open
  6. consider some plastic roofing for natural light
  7. the so called inland route is only from kaikoura to points south. The most direct way from picton to chch is via sh63,6,65.7 and 1..(this is only one lane in some parts slips etc) SH1 is blocked both North and south of Kaikoura, and i think the "inland route"(via lyford and waiau) is still "broken"
  8. i work for a prenaill place. We cant touch the likes of versatile etc. They have there own garage specific designs which would not be good enough for a habitable space. The timber ones use an absolute minimum of timber. They all use metal cladding so the condensation will be similar, but the steel frames ones will also get condensation on the framing members..Timber is a little more user friendly for fixing stuff too.If you want to lift engines etc then let them know that from the start. They may have a special truss design for that.If you can manage to get ply in the corners that will make the whole garage much stronger.Strength is not much of an issue cos they have no mass in them . Is that part height concrete wall in really good condition? You may be able to put the garage walls straight on top of them I would think that they(the garage people) would all have "designs" suitable for being closer to the boundary .Some kind of non combustible thermal resitant material under the stell cladding would do the trick i think.
  9. are the tyres equivalent sizes(o/a diameter) as the originals and are they close to same diameter front to rear?
  10. well i have to differ.I bought my 120d from JGbmw.albeit a few years ago.I got the regular servicing done there, ussually when they let me know a wof was due.All the 120d ever needed was regular services, one time i think they did the cabin filter.Always was able to book it in on a saturday morning.Service was always very good. When i picked the car up they even made sure that i knew how to connect and disconnect the detachable tow ball.!
  11. fwiw i thought my little 120d(manual) was a great little car, really nice steering and brakes.and the handling was fine even on the std suspension and run flats.May be the upperlimit is not that of an m sport or non runflat tyres, but this is the road we are talking about. If you are thinking about one at least drive a couple of nice ones. They are a snall car though, fine for front sseat (i am 190 cm) a litle cramped in the back(hatchback)
  12. when i had my m30 rebuilt they replaced the cam followers....they were losing the hardening on the faces, they did something else too but i cant remember..this was after the headgasket went at about 240 km
  13. fair comment, never really drove it out of tauraunga town
  14. v10 petrol? All wheel drivei assume.Audi just dont do it for me but i must admit there a are couple ofmodels that i would like to try
  15. if you want anything other than generic stuff a bmw experienced mechanic will be the stumbling block i think.Sounds a good scheme though
  16. hmm whats the likely damage for the passengers side rear wheel looking a bit out of line?
  17. its all related to keeping the rain off!
  18. a common misconception.Umbrellas are of questionable reliability in Wellington,un less mr Flybuys buys you a BLUNT umbrella
  19. so its an unravelling thread because your point of view is not agreed with?. You say its logical that the e39 is the "better car" Define better. For me the e34 is a better car. There are subjective and personal choices when making a car purchase. So my view that an e34 is the better car has just as much validity as your claim that the e39 is the choice.
  20. bullshit....its a subjective thing anyway .As i said ,and i have driven both i WOULD choose the E34
  21. i have driven e34,535,e34 540 , and e39 540 6 spd(all manuals). The e39 is too nice.E34 for me anytime.Exception would be e39 M5 Manual s only for me in a e34.I think i would take a 535 over a 540 too.However i must say the e34 540 may not have been a good example.The controls were "wooden" compared to my e34 535.
  22. were they trx s....they prolly very old?
  23. the price for runflat tyres vary widly in my experience.Just before xmas one year i needed two new tyres. All the usual suspects were out of stock I had to buy pirellis at nearly 400 each. The next time i had to buy tyres i shopped around well in advance.I got them at about 250 each(same pirelli tyres) 205 55 16 i think
