    Petrol Tank

I'm the opposite - with SA long range tanks I neverfill all the way up - why carry round an extra 30kg of fuel when I can get to Auckland and back on 2/3rds of a tank?
  5. the u-joints should be oriented opposite. A u-joint "speeds up" and "slows down" as it turns (as opposed to a CV joint which doesn't - Constant Velocity Joint) If they face the same way you get increased speeding up and slowwing down hence vibration. The need to be opposite so they cancel out. That means that the u-joint yokes at either end of the prop shaft should be in the same plane and the yokes that attach to the gearbox and diff should be in the same plane. A picture is worth a thousand words here. Edit: stolen from wikipedia:

    Petrol Tank

Happened once in my SA - I thought it was the pump and so did my nut at the servo and got some cheap fuel. Then it happened once again, but never since. Been over a year now since it last happened. So sorry I can't help you with a solution, but at least you're not alone.

    RUF CTR3

Pimp-spec red leather - I don't care who you are - you could pull in that car.
  10. Not true - every couple of months whole conversions appear on trademe. I have bought three in the last 18 months - all for $750 or less although prices are rising.

    Europlated E30

They're not europlates until they come from europe - like Ryan's here.
  12. Apparently the Bel STI driver is serious competition for the V1 in terms of ability. Costs more too.

    E30 M tech II kit

Being off a motorsport I assume its for 2-door?
  14. Like I said Cain, I don't know, its just what I've always been told. May have something to do with the fact that most of the time, the audio is on when the car is running which means you have an alternator in the equation also. Aside from that, here's a few tips stolen from probably one of the most technical car audio sites www.bcae1.com Note the comment about amps producing less power if there is greater resistance in the return path - may back up your point about going straight to the battery - line of least resistance.
  15. The amp should have a ground wire - not be gounded through the amp chassis. Cheaper amps will not have proper internal earths and so you may get an earthloop if the amp is mounted on metal part of the car. If you're not getting alternator whine then you're probably fine and so its sweet. As long as you clean the paint off the tower this should work ok. But make sure the shock tower bolts are torqued correctly. Although you'll probably get away with it, it has been known for overtightened shock tower bolts to break as they are under too much tension, and loose ones to loosen esp as the nuts are one-use. Not per se, but its good practice for the gounding to go through the chassis to the battery - someone will be able to explain the physics, all I know is that I've always been taught its a good idea.
  16. 1)Not alot. 2) Yes - cheaper to have a secondhand one swapped in. Manual conversion worth the cost esp. if you can do the work yoursellf. 3) shifter will line up fine. 4) auto propshaft front section too short. Should replace entire shaft with secondhand one though not just front part as they are balanced as a single unit. Yokes are the same on all the boxes. Getrag 260 is bigger stronger and bolts up. same clutch etc as 240. Different shifter mounting frame/arm length and propshaft length as it is longer then the 240 but shorter than the auto. Still lines up fine. Getrag 240's hard to get now as most are snapped up for use in BMW race series as hey are the only ones allowed. secondhand 260 conversion "kit" is around about $750+ Couple of threads on here that will answer most of your questions.
  17. I was wondering that - was going to ask for it back.

Howsit. Love the bio - not many new members share quite so much - nice for a change. Enjoy the 535 - they're great fun to drive if you have enough room to test them properly. Flick some pics up once you hve it tidy. Graham
  19. How you getting on with this Gareth?
  20. Anyone had experience with properly and correctly repairing curbed wheels? Over the past few weeks I have been practicing my painting and am now at a point where I am happy to do things like wheels. Wondering if I should tackle my momos. They need some serious curbing fixed (not mine! on there when purchased) which I guess I will need to bog and sand/grind down? then sand the rest and primer and paint. Want to make sure I'm not wasting my time. Keiti and I have successfully bogged and resprayed the boot, bumpers and front grill on her '96 Galant to a standard that I am proud of for a first-ever car painting attempt. Was a very steep learning curve.
  21. Anyone watch qualifying on Sat? Was really good.
  22. Yeah - idle not a good place for an engine to sit. I always change gear at 2500rpm until the car warms up - better than just leaving it at idle till its warm from what I've always been told.
  23. Dude - have you ever driven through Kawakawa????? Same sh*t.
