That was my assertion from the photgraphs I've seen. Had the shock tower reinforcements in the engine bay = cabby. But as I've not actually seen the project in the flesh, nor talked directly to the owner, it's just my guess.

They've been doing it covertly for awhile now. My brother got a fine for crossing the double yellows on the Brynderwyns a month or so back - photo in the mail with the infringement notice.

They fooled alot of people (incl. die-hard enthusiasts) at the first Top Gear live show. Jalopnik

A couple of FACTS (seem slim around here these days): So if you go to VTNZ with a green sticker for noisy exhaust, the officer may require you to undergo the objective test (that's the $200 one - or however much it is). And yes, that's no guarantee that your niece won't get pulled up again for the same thing, however, the certificate may placate a police officer if that's the only reason she was pulled over and he's in a good mood.

Hope he had track day insurance. Two complete revolutions in the air is pretty impressive!

No-one ever does! Coming along nicely though.

How urgent? I might have some left over in storage you can have gratis, but won't be anywhere near my lockup for a few days.

Most good workshops that do WOF's should have a light box.

Not cool! That happened to my flatmate at uni. He thought his car had been stolen while he was out drinking because it wasn't in the drive in the morning when he woke up. Filed a police report. Quized me hard in case I'd borrowed it and totalled it and wasn't saying, etc. He found it about 2 weeks later covered in parking tickets in town. It must have kick-started his memory as he then vaguely remembered driving to town and parking it there. He must have got so drunk he forgot driving into town. True story!

Where are they gonna put you if they arrest you? Shove you under the tonneau cover?

Holy engine transplant in that merc!

I've adjusted my e30 speedo to be as close to correct as possible. It now nearly exactly matches the OBC speed (test by hitting reset on average speed as you are travelling along), and similarly nearly exactly matches the GPS. Also interesting is that it's within 1-2km of the electronic speed signs at Whangarei, and just north of Puhoi. There is a slight scale error (ie it's out by more kms at 100 than at 50) but I've more or less eliminated the constant error.

Depends on the unit. GPS is a 3D system, but some cheaper units only determine 2D solutions, so can't account for inclines. If your unit also tells you your elevation, then it is probably determining a 3D solution. You need a minimum of 3 satellites for a 2D solution, and 4 for a 3D. For it to be accurate, more satellites is better, but it's the geometry of the satellites that makes the most difference. Ie you won't get a very good position if you're driving hard up against a steep cliff as you only have satellites on one half of the sky, and you have reflected signals bouncing off the cliff-face. Elevation determination is not as accurate as position, so if you want to calibrate your speedo, find a fairly flat piece of road. Most highways are less than 10% grade anyway. I know they look steeper, but trust me, they aren't.

The guy's name is Cornelius? That's all I need to know.

Sorry Ashkan/dubman, but GPS (even low accuracy in-car units) generally provide a fairly accurate determination of velocity. Absolute positions might be ±15m, but relative positions a second or so apart are usually much more accurate as they are subject to nearly identical error, and thus cancel out. It depends on whether your unit uses position or the doppler effect to determine speed, but most modern units use position which is fairly good. I'd trust the GPS with a margin of error of a couple of percent versus 10%+ for your car speedo.

Will PM too Nathan, but I'm down now. Rio and I are going out to check out some music and have a couple of beers tonight if you want to come. Won't be a huge night though. Otherwise I'm keen for Monday night. Nice weather down here.

Computer range is based on you fuel consumption figures and the amount of fuel left. I'm trying to figure out if it's your OBC or your dash gauge that's playing up.
-
Look into having them covered with that 3M (or similar) clear vinyl stuff. Not sure how well it could be applied, but it seems to go on some fairly interestingly shaped body panels OK. Peel it off if it ever looks bad and have it done again.

Yeah that's their min. reading.

I have a SA car with the long range tank, fuel gauge, and OBC, and mine reads fine. Does your gauge on the cluster read correctly? Next time you're in the red press the 1000 button and the 1 button simultaneously. It'll give you a fuel reading in litres. When my orange fuel light comes on I generally have significantly less than 10l left according to the OBC. OBC fuel reading is only accurate to ± a couple of litres, but it gives you an idea.

Why are there teddies in the engine bay? (and not the good kind)

That's the one I was talking about. (with the power bulge). My sieve of a brain told me it was a lexus. American v8 just as manly.
