So after our session the other day you can discount the wiring between the diag plug and the DMEs. Next on the list is rewiring pin 15 on the diag plug. If not we can look to low jack it straight to the DME pins 87.

it was real guys ... cheers

The problem is a cars dynamics are overly complicated, adjusting ride height effects more than just the look. I would hardly call it biased in this case. I managed to tune my suspension to work perfectly on the race track, creating a compedative track car. The down side is when I drive on back roads im at a disadvantage because of my linear springs and spring rates. Its great on smooth roads though I learnt this the hard way. As much as Ron can be a pain in the ass the way he puts his point across, he is right. There are members on this site who just want to lower there car, there are members who want to do it right and members who dont care. People with a lot of real world experience on this site especially on the suspension topic arent to common. They like every one at some point probably get a little cynical when offering advice.

In summer without the cold air box it will quite noticebly descrease performance. There is a direct correlation between Air intake temp and ignition timing.

Personally had an average experience at Autotrans .. in the end they werent interested in looking at my problem even after going back several times. Paided top dollar at the time too for the rebuild. After a lot of research myself it turned out to be a worn valve guide on mine. Something they should have picked up being specailists.

It shouldn't be too difficult to cut a massive square and retain the guard the make that work with the existing. I dont think there is any point mincing around with trying to cut and paste on the actual guard itself. The rear doors will need a bump out to match the curve and the fuel cap and the rear sill will be the hardest part I think as its quite different. Still it will alllllllllll be worth it for sure. No point taking any easy way out panel jobs on this one .. as you said youre going to the effort to unstitch the rear boot floor to accomodate the exhaust, might as well put the same effort into getting the rear guards perfect.

Im gonna do a write up at some point, but anyone with suede or alcantara. Buy a set of small tooth brush sized wire brushes. That and some plastic brushes. You use these to clean them and bring the pile back after months of hand grease start to make the fiber stick together and clump and get that shiny look. Just re-did my suede sparco wheel and it looks new.

Nice, We (Hellbm / Brendon and myself) have built 1 and just putting the finishing touches on another at the moment... to be reveiled soon. Ours are both based on the s62 platform however. Good to see another m3 v8 being done.

This is why I just bypass NZ importers and get the stuff I actually need from tirerack. Instead of them trying to talk me into inferior tire brands. Works out the same cost and its new not new old stock.

If you mean the 16pin plug .. yes I have. But the problem is the protocol for OBDII isnt there. It is possible to write an adapter for it.. but would take time and in my eyes not be worth it. I couldnt offer you HUD but can certainly help with a display -
They have all the elements of wheels that will work for the e31 ... perfect

been there done that ... like 3pedals preaches manuals. If you run low profile, get proper forged and spun wheels. No problems.

Anything thats OBD2 compliant will not work on your DME unfortunately. here is what I'm working on currently for MSS50/52&54. I will be looking at MS42 & 43 shortly soon too http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/43901-prototype-dslive-data-acquistion/ -

Your 96-99 MSS50 (or MSS50.1) DME doesnt support the OBD2 protocol (KWP2000). Only BMW DS2 which is a proprietary protocol. What exactly are you wanting to display ? I have just completed 4 years research into all of this. Just a note, there isnt actually anything called OBD1. In the late 80s to around 1996 in the US and up to 2000 in europe vehicles had their own propriety connectors and protocols. BMW has several different variations on a 20 pin round connector which the americans tried to start calling 'OBD1' In Europe, BMW started the change over to 16 pin flat connector in 1999 for certain parts of the diagnostic bus system and completed the switch in 2001.
