Recommend E30 Adjustable suspension
_ethrty-Andy_ replied to alaza's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
he wants good suspension, suitable for drifting. Airbags are neither. They are total crap at doing anything other than making a car look good. -
goes for any looked after E30 to be honest.

looks like my car on grand theft auto 5 lol

im free pretty well every weekend... if i leave after work Queen Street is just starting to rock by the time i get there.

Recommend E30 Adjustable suspension
_ethrty-Andy_ replied to alaza's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
Assuming you mean coilovers and not interested in airbags..? Plenty of cheap brands out there that have spring rate and height adjustability in the one motion, e.g. you lower the spring rate and car sits down lower. Keep away from these, they are cheap and nasty. Remember, you need to certify them, so definately a thing that economically its a great idea to "do it once do it right" BC Gold and XYZ are common middle of the road setup. Im running XYZ in my E34 Touring. make sure you get their drift or curcuit setup if you are intending for competition/club use. I did loads of research and these seemed to be best bang for buck. And then top of the line comes Ground Control and H&R, though i think the latter may have discontinued now. John, a member on here e30ftw im 99% sure ran Ground Control in his E30. And they are very very popular on Bimmerfest.com, R3vlimited, and E30tech, all very big E30 forums much much larger than bimmersport. Remember, you get what you pay for with this sort of thing, much like buying H&R or Ebaich springs over Cobra or Jamex. -
my thoughts too

surely a wheel doesnt just come away from the center for no reason
-
good idea to keep the momentum going. In the past, we have done rather large meets at Taupo Motorsport Park which have worked well, a track day built in etc. best to avoid the temptation to do something over long weekends tho, many people have other plans already
-
heard about this through the grape vine Fred, didn't see this coming! its a 540i you got right?
-
surely its $6k not $16k. either way, makes my 540i kit at $600 odd look cheap haha If Im not doing anything i will come up for the weekend if someone can put me up for the night or two ha

whoops forgot Darrens V8 M5 hmm i wonder why Darren is in Passengers seat -
should have stuck to making pickups and box-trucks

its an M42, what are you hoping to achieve, and what have you done already? that does help answer the question. is it manual? and no, im not part of the anti-BMW-4cylinder group. I think the M42 is a good engine in the right car

E30 Cabrio: H&R Sport vs Touring Cup Kits
_ethrty-Andy_ replied to Tidy30's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
verts are heavier, so technically should have higher spring rates. that said, all verts have 51mm struts, and therefore non vert 325i springs will actually work. H&R are covering their ass by saying they aren't -
im running coil overs that are quite hard, would it be a good idea to get these or does improvement likely to be less now? I'm running the factory sways.

looks pretty easy. i have repaired worse. unfortunately the front doesnt bolt on and off on an E30 so has to be done in place. go easy on it! or put a new front cut on, that would be the correct way to do it. Another tip, you can pick up whole E30s for $500 or even less, which is what a wrecker will probably charge for all the bits you need, especially bumpers they arent too cheap. and you get to keep or sell the rest of the car

Where can you wash your own car - Wellington?
_ethrty-Andy_ replied to amdaman's topic in General Discussion
Geoff has a storage place, im sure thats where he means Im in Seaview every day, and there is no wash place that I am aware of. But my work is in Seaview too, you could do it there. -
hmm a bit hard to guess its life. isn't slammed on ugly wheels so potentially not a thrashed to hell car. but the pod filter and not having the heater box hooked up are shortcuts, hopefully no shortcuts elsewhere. as with any E30 check for rust, not common, but pretty terminal if present. especially around rear taillights and in the storage compartments on each side in the boot. That car is very likely to be a New Zealand new based on the registration plate good idea to find out the km's of the engine thats in it. and it will need certification if its not already, this will be extra work like driveshaft hoops etc. Price a bit on the high side. dont pay too much of a premium because its an M50, you can do the qhole swap including purchasing the engine for 1-1.5k now

yes 400 starting to get up there especially for an NZ car. but wouldnt be worried about it, have seen them fall apart at less than half that. proof if you look after it it will go forever
